Mercedes-Benz has announced a new V8 for the updated S-Class and separately described a next-generation electrified V8 for AMG. The company has not confirmed that they are the same engine. Mercedes says the new AMG V8 will make its U.S. debut by the end of 2026, but has not named the debut vehicle or provided the engine’s output or full specifications.
What has Mercedes announced about its new V8?
There are several V8 developments, and they should not be treated as one confirmed engine. Mercedes-Benz Group’s February 12, 2026 announcement describes a new V8 as part of the upgraded S-Class’s comprehensive powertrain update. A separate AMG strategy announcement describes a next-generation, high-tech electrified V8 for the performance brand’s future portfolio. Mercedes-Benz USA has also published specifications for a revised V8 in the 2027 GLE 580 4MATIC. The company has not explicitly connected these announcements.
Mercedes-Benz Group’s 2025 results announcement also frames the year as a major product-launch period: CEO Ola Källenius said the company’s launch pace of more than 40 new models over three years would continue at an even higher pace in 2026. That is corporate context, not a V8 production or availability figure.
What is Mercedes saying about the AMG V8?
At its 2025 Capital Market Day, Mercedes-Benz said Mercedes-AMG’s refreshed portfolio from 2026 onward would include “a next-generation, high-tech electrified V8,” alongside dedicated high-performance electric models based on AMG.EA. The statement sets out portfolio direction; it does not identify an engine code, displacement, power output, hybrid configuration, or a list of vehicles that will use the engine. In a 2026 U.S. business presentation, Mercedes-Benz Group stated: “The new AMG-V8 will make its U.S. debut by the end of this year.” That is a company-stated U.S. debut horizon through the end of 2026, not a named launch date or a global on-sale commitment. The presentation does not say which vehicle will debut it. The statement appears in the company’s 2026 U.S. business presentation.
What does the 2026 S-Class announcement say?
Mercedes-Benz Group said on February 12, 2026 that the upgraded flagship S-Class would receive a comprehensive powertrain update including a new V8 and MB.OS. Its 2026 strategy presentation calls the S-Class powertrain update its most comprehensive and refers to an “electrified V8 & long-range PHEV.” It also presents the company’s four-, six- and eight-cylinder combustion engines as EU7-ready. The cited material does not define what electrification means for each V8 application or disclose the S-Class V8’s displacement, output, engine code or hybrid hardware.

What is known about the 2027 GLE 580 V8?
Mercedes-Benz USA’s March 31, 2026 announcement gives concrete figures for the revised V8 in the U.S.-market 2027 GLE 580 4MATIC. Mercedes lists 530 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque, with peak torque available from 2,500 to 4,500 rpm. It compares those figures with the previous GLE 580’s 510 hp and 538 lb-ft. These specifications apply to the U.S. announcement; specifications and availability may differ in other markets.

Mercedes also describes revisions to injection, exhaust aftertreatment, cylinder-head ports, the intake camshaft, and the turbocharger compressor wheel and housing. These are details for the 2027 GLE 580 V8; the announcement does not say that this is the next-generation AMG engine. See the Mercedes-Benz USA GLE announcement.
Are the S-Class, AMG and GLE engines the same?
That has not been established by the cited announcements. Mercedes has described a new V8 for the S-Class, a future electrified V8 for AMG, and a revised V8 for the 2027 GLE 580. Without an explicit link from the company, it would be speculation to identify them as one engine or assume that the GLE’s figures apply to AMG or the S-Class.

Which Mercedes models will get the new AMG V8, and when?
Mercedes has not published a complete AMG application list or named the first vehicle. Its 2025 strategy statement points to the AMG portfolio from 2026 onward, while the 2026 U.S. business presentation gives an end-of-2026 horizon for the engine’s U.S. debut. Neither statement supplies a global rollout schedule or confirms when customers can order a specific model.
