New Holland’s T4 Electric Power is a battery-electric light utility tractor prototype with remote-operation and autonomous features—not a confirmed, fully driverless production tractor. CNH Industrial unveiled it in Phoenix in December 2022, with a planned production start by the end of 2023. The company’s announcement and later 2023 materials do not establish that production began or that buyers can order one now.
What New Holland revealed
CNH Industrial, New Holland’s parent company, presented the T4 Electric Power at its Tech Day in Phoenix, Arizona, on December 7–8, 2022. CNH described it as the industry’s first all-electric light utility tractor prototype with autonomous features. That “first” is the company’s characterization, not an independently established industry-wide finding. The project involved California-based Monarch Tractor as a strategic development partner; CNH said the commercial concept was also intended to extend to the Case IH brand. The collaboration does not mean the New Holland tractor is simply a rebadged Monarch product. CNH’s announcement and its North American release describe the launch and partnership.

The announcement was about a prototype and a production plan. CNH expected commercial production by the end of 2023, and New Holland repeated that expectation in a September 2023 release. Those statements are targets, not confirmation that production was completed. The available company materials do not establish a current retail price, dealer inventory, or ordering process as of August 16, 2026.

How its autonomous features differ from a driverless tractor
“Autonomous features” covers a range of capabilities. Driver assistance helps an operator guide or monitor a machine; supervised autonomy lets it carry out defined actions while a person monitors and can intervene; unsupervised autonomy would mean operating a job independently within defined conditions. CNH’s descriptions support assistance and supervised functions more clearly than general, unattended field operation. They do not establish that the T4 can safely perform every task without an operator.
Remote control and monitoring
CNH described smartphone-based remote operation, Live View, and remote monitoring of performance and battery status. These functions can let an operator manage or observe the tractor without continuously sitting in the cab, but they do not by themselves prove that a task can be left unattended.
Following, guidance, and task management
Shadow Mode lets the tractor follow or synchronize with another machine. Auto-guidance, telematics, fleet management, and task assignment support coordinated work and monitoring. Implement Recognition is intended to identify connected equipment. The specific operating limits and which functions would be included in a production model are not established in the cited announcements.

- The tread tires are removable. The tractor is compatible with all bworld figures.
- Made in Germany of highest-quality ABS plastic.
- Recommended age: suitable from 3 years for playing indoors and outdoors.
Perception and gesture control
CNH described 360-degree perception and obstacle detection, along with gesture control for selected functions while an operator is outside the cab. Obstacle detection is not a guarantee that every person, animal, wire, ditch, or partly obscured object will be detected. Dust, mud, vegetation, poor visibility, slopes, and sensor obstruction can complicate operation. CNH’s Tech Day transcript discusses the control and autonomy concepts.
Why it is more than an electric drivetrain
The T4 concept was designed to work with conventional mechanical, hydraulic, and PTO implements as well as electric implements. CNH also said the tractor could supply mobile electrical power for tools such as welders and drills or serve as a backup generator. That makes the proposition broader than replacing diesel propulsion: the machine could also be a power source around a farm. These are company-described capabilities; the announcements do not provide a validated implement list or detailed output limits.
New Holland said the electric machine could reduce noise by up to 90% and vibration, and CNH cited potential benefits for operators and livestock. It also claimed operating-cost reductions of up to 90%, primarily through eliminating diesel fuel and reducing related maintenance. These are manufacturer claims, not guaranteed savings or a farm-by-farm total-cost-of-ownership result. Actual economics would depend on electricity and diesel prices, annual use, charging installation, battery life and replacement, purchase price, financing, service, and resale value. New Holland’s Tech Day coverage describes the noise, cost, power-source, and implement claims.
Where an electric utility tractor could make sense
CNH identified mixed farms, livestock operations, municipal work, orchards, and specialty-crop operations as potential applications. The strongest practical fit would likely be repetitive, localized work with predictable daily hours and a dependable return to a charging point.

- New Ray Toys 32123 Die Cast New Holland Farm Tractor T6 with Loader Blue
- Tractor is made of plastic with working loader and enclosed cab
- It measures about 5 inches in length and is close to 1/43rd scale
- Livestock and indoor work: Low local exhaust and reduced noise may matter in barns and covered spaces.
- Orchards and specialty crops: Repeated low-speed tasks such as mowing, spraying, or transport may be easier to plan around charging than long, variable field shifts.
- Municipal and grounds work: Repetitive routes and regular depot access can make scheduling more predictable.
- Farm power needs: The proposed ability to power tools or electric implements could add value where mobile electricity is useful.
“Zero emissions” here means no tailpipe emissions while the tractor operates. It does not mean zero lifecycle emissions: electricity generation, battery manufacturing, replacement, and recycling also affect the environmental picture.

Charging and runtime
The roughly one-hour full-charge claim assumes an appropriate fast-charging system. A farm would need to confirm utility-service capacity, charger installation and weather protection, electrical safety, and whether the machine can return to charge between shifts. If it must work away from a charging location, downtime or a backup machine may be necessary. The announcements do not specify the battery capacity, chemistry, connector, voltage, or amperage.
Runtime should be assessed against the actual work rather than the phrase “up to a full day.” Sustained pulling, loader work, hills, wet soil, heavy PTO use, and high hydraulic demand may use energy differently from light transport or mowing. No standardized endurance rating or guaranteed runtime under defined loads is provided in the cited material.

Before relying on remote or autonomous functions, an operator would need to know which features work without cellular service or GPS, what the tractor does after a connection or positioning loss, how it stops safely, and which functions require direct supervision. Sensor visibility can be affected by dust, mud, weeds, or an implement; farms also need procedures for people, livestock, and other vehicles entering the operating area. The announcements do not set out production operating rules, certifications, offline behavior, or subscription requirements.

Service and ownership costs
No public price, battery warranty, replacement cost, dealer-service coverage, or residual-value information is established in the cited materials. Those details would be essential to compare the tractor with a diesel utility machine, even if the projected fuel and maintenance savings prove achievable. Buyers would also need confirmation of regional approval, validated implements, dealer training, and battery repair and recycling arrangements.
Is the New Holland T4 Electric Power available to buy?
Current availability is not confirmed by the cited official materials. CNH announced an expected production start by the end of 2023, and New Holland’s 2023 Agritechnica release repeated a U.S. production expectation. Neither statement verifies that production began, that a production model retained the same name or specifications, or that a dealer can take an order in 2026. A prospective buyer should seek direct confirmation from New Holland or a local agricultural-equipment dealer rather than treating the old target date as proof of availability.
The T4 Electric Power is a meaningful prototype because it brings battery propulsion, implement compatibility, mobile power, and automation into one light-utility concept. But the evidence supports a prototype with planned commercial ambitions—not a broadly available, fully autonomous replacement for conventional farm tractors.
