ARRK Engineering’s HDMI-APIX3 converter is a standalone engineering instrument that feeds HDMI video to APIX3-compatible automotive displays. It is intended for display development, debugging and validation—not as a consumer adapter for connecting a TV or computer monitor. Inova Semiconductors announced the converter on 11 February 2021.
What the HDMI-APIX3 converter does
The converter takes video from an HDMI source and sends it to an APIX3 display under test. That gives engineering teams a way to supply known image content without relying on a vehicle’s full infotainment system. Its firmware can adjust HDMI output resolution automatically or manually for the connected display, including changing resolution at runtime through an integrated microcontroller.
APIX3, or Automotive Pixel Link 3, is Inova Semiconductors’ third-generation multichannel serializer/deserializer technology for high-resolution in-vehicle video. Inova’s 2021 announcement describes support for HD and Ultra HD displays and multiple display connections with bandwidth of up to 12 Gbit/s. That figure describes the APIX3 technology in the announcement; it is not a measured throughput result for every test setup.
How engineers use it to test a display
The basic workflow is to connect an HDMI video source to the converter, connect the APIX3-compatible display as the device under test, and supply the converter with 12 VDC. Engineers can then provide video and use the converter’s firmware functions to examine the display and related components. The rear connection also accepts a removable SD card; the front provides USB and Ethernet interfaces in addition to HDMI.

Display analysis and debugging
The instrument is designed for APIX3 display analysis, component debugging, general measurement and durability testing. It transmits image and control data, and its firmware can simulate driver functions. Inova’s product announcement does not specify a universal test sequence or particular diagnostic coverage, so the exact procedure depends on the display and test objective.
Control and Ethernet evaluation
In addition to image testing, the converter can receive and evaluate MII Ethernet data. This allows teams to examine relevant control or network behavior alongside display output, rather than treating the instrument as a video-only adapter.

The integrated microcontroller coordinates the HDMI display-data channel and can change output resolution during runtime. These specifications are those reported in Inova’s 2021 announcement; they do not establish current product availability or a current commercial configuration.
Why a standalone converter helps
A contemporaneous report described earlier APIX3 testing as requiring a developer board and a separately configured computer, making setup cumbersome. ARRK’s prototype was designed as a more practical box that simulates the necessary original image-source functions. The intended users include OEMs, system developers and vehicle manufacturers working on display development or validation.

How it differs from Alfamation’s APIX3 test modules
Alfamation’s Flexmedia XM APIX3TD1 transmitter and XM APIX3RD1 receiver are a complementary approach: a transmitter/receiver test path aimed at high fault coverage and high-speed processing. The two solutions serve overlapping engineering needs, but they are not interchangeable on the evidence available.

Choose by test objective: the ARRK unit is a direct fit when the need is to inject HDMI content into a display and work with its image, control or MII Ethernet behavior. Alfamation’s modules are presented for transmitter/receiver testing and workflows that need software integration or automated production testing. Selection should also account for the specific APIX devices, link configuration and test coverage required by the program.

The cited material does not establish a current price, consumer retail listing or present-day availability. It is best understood as a specialized professional development and validation instrument; ordinary HDMI accessories do not provide its APIX3 conversion and test functions.
