Published by Successful Farming on August 17, 2013, it paired a look inside combine production with an overview of the S68, S78 and S88. The specifications and production details below are attributed to the 2013 feature or the cited dealer and manufacturer materials; they should not be read as confirmation of current S8 production or availability.
What the 2013 plant tour showed
David Ekstrom’s August 17, 2013, Successful Farming feature documented a Gleaner combine production facility through photographs and captions. The tour described large flotation tires, a paint center, and combines undergoing checks before delivery.

The feature said the new paint center used E-coat and powder paint on major parts. Its captions showed newly built S67 combines lined up for testing and an S77 receiving a construction-quality check. Those are details reported during the 2013 tour; they do not establish whether the facility, paint process, or production arrangements remain the same today.
The S8 models and reported specifications
The dealer’s Gleaner S8 Super Series page lists three models. Its listed horsepower and engine details, along with the 2013 feature’s separate S88 boost figure, are summarized here. The dealer page does not state a publication date.

How the S8 harvesting system was described
Gleaner’s Standard S8 Super Series brochure describes a transverse Natural Flow rotor and a two-stage cleaning system. It also identifies a perforated cascade pan and Direct Flow unloading with two augers. These are manufacturer descriptions of the design; they do not provide independent comparative test results.

For a buyer or operator comparing the listed models, the clearest distinctions in the cited dealer specifications are class, engine configuration, and horsepower. The dealer lists the same grain-bin capacity and unload rate for all three. The cited materials do not establish which model best suits a particular farm: crop mix, acreage, terrain, headers, machine condition, and configuration matter, and no independently tested comparison or current pricing is provided here.

Gleaner’s official products page currently presents the T Series and S9 Super Series; the S9 page lists the S96, S97, and S98. This places the S8 tour in the context of an earlier named series, but the product pages alone do not establish whether new S8 machines are available, whether used machines are available in a particular market, or the status of S8 parts and service.

Gleaner’s brand history says the Baldwin brothers developed and named their self-propelled combine Gleaner in 1923. In a June 15, 2022, company announcement marking the brand’s centennial, AGCO marketing director Matt LeCroy said: “From the first self-propelled harvester to our innovative S9 Super Series combines, Gleaner provides the reliability and experience North American farmers count on.” That is AGCO’s characterization in a company announcement, rather than an independent assessment.
What owners should verify before acting
The specifications above are useful for understanding the series, but a specific machine’s configuration and condition can differ. Before buying, servicing, or matching an S8 to equipment, confirm its model year, serial number, installed options, and compatibility with a dealer or the relevant documentation. The cited sources do not establish current inventory, parts availability, service coverage, or model-year fitment.
