Its published speed and power figures varied by source: 2016 coverage reported up to 20 kW and 62 mph, while a 2017 specification listed 15 kW and 80 km/h. These are historical reported figures, not independently verified test results, and the FR/1’s current availability is not established.
What was the Neematic FR/1?
Neematic developed the FR/1 as a high-performance machine for rough terrain, positioned between a mountain bike and a dirt bike rather than as an ordinary urban pedelec. Its functional prototype was shown at Intermot in 2016. The company described its mid-drive motor as sitting at the swingarm pivot, a layout it said supported suspension performance and a low center of gravity.
The mid-drive layout also left the rear wheel without a hub motor. Founder and chief engineer Domas Zinkevicius said the design integrated the motor into the frame and removed unsprung mass from the rear wheel. That is the company’s engineering rationale, not an independently measured comparison.
How fast and powerful was it reported to be?
Published figures do not agree, so there is no single substantiated FR/1 speed or power number to quote as definitive.

These are figures reported in articles about the bike, not results from a standardized or controlled test. Neematic’s own product page also contains conflicting entries: it gives top-speed figures of both 88 km/h and 80 km/h, and battery capacity as 2.0 kWh, 2.3 kWh and 2.0 kWh in different places. The available figures therefore should not be combined into a precise production specification.
Did the Neematic have a throttle and pedals?
Yes. The FR/1 was described as having a twist throttle as well as pedal assist, with a 9-speed Pinion gearbox for pedaling. That combination distinguished it from a conventional pedal-assist e-bike, where motor assistance is tied to pedaling. The sources do not establish a specific legal classification for the FR/1 in any country; its reported speed and power are far beyond what many jurisdictions allow for a standard road-legal pedelec.

What equipment and range were listed?
Electrek’s 2017 specification described a 52 kg curb weight and up to 100 km of range from a removable 2.2-kWh lithium-ion battery. It also listed Fox suspension with 203 mm of front travel and 200 mm at the rear, Hope Tech3 V4 brakes with adjustable regenerative braking, and a 26-inch front wheel paired with a 24-inch rear wheel.
Those are published specifications and claims, not independently confirmed measurements. New Atlas’s 2016 estimate of 31–62 miles of range differs in presentation from the later “up to 100 km” figure; neither should be read as guaranteed real-world range across terrain, rider weight, speed or conditions.

What happened to the FR/1?
Neematic opened reservations in 2017. The Pack reported that the initial series was to be limited to 50 bikes, with worldwide shipping planned around mid-2018. It gave a historical discounted price of €8,000 before taxes and a €200 reservation deposit. Those were launch-era terms, not current purchase information.
A later partnership announcement concerned a related but distinct model, the UBCO FRX1. The Pack’s 2019 report said the FRX1 was projected to reach US consumers in June 2020, and listed 20 hp maximum power, 50 mph maximum speed, 115 lb curb weight, up to 62 miles of range, a 2.2-kWh battery, and twist throttle with pedal assist. Those figures belong to the FRX1, not the original Neematic FR/1. Current sales status for either model is not verified here.
