1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe best 2025 electric SUV depends on what you need most: three rows and family space, longer range, charging access, or a balance of everyday usability. The Kia EV9 is the clearest fit among these picks for shoppers who need three rows; the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Ford Mustang Mach-E offer distinct two-row options with range that varies substantially by trim and drivetrain. There is no single winner for every buyer, so compare the configuration you would actually purchase—not just each model’s headline figure.
How to compare 2025 electric SUVs
This guide focuses on three models with useful, source-backed differences: the five-seat Hyundai IONIQ 5, the five-seat Ford Mustang Mach-E, and the three-row Kia EV9. Compare them by seating and cargo needs first, then check EPA-estimated range for the exact trim, battery, and drivetrain. Range is a standardized estimate, not a promise of what you will achieve in your weather, driving, or load conditions.
- Space: Decide whether you need a third row and how much passenger or cargo room matters.
- Range: Match the advertised EPA estimate to the exact configuration; maximum range may not be available on every trim.
- Charging: Consider home charging, access to public fast chargers, and the time a stop may take.
- Price and availability: Verify current local inventory, dealer pricing, incentives, and specifications. They can vary by location and timing.
Best 2025 EV SUV for three-row family space: Kia EV9
The EV9 stands out for shoppers who need a usable third row rather than simply the longest range. Cars.com named the 2025 Kia EV9 its Best Electric Vehicle of 2025 on February 6, 2025, citing its balance of range, comfort, control usability, and cabin space, especially in the second and third rows. That is an editorial award, not proof that it suits every household.
Cars.com reported an EPA-estimated range span of 230–304 miles and a price range of $56,395–$75,395 including destination charge. Those are figures reported in its 2025 award coverage, not a current dealer quote or a trim-by-trim specification; check Kia’s specifications and current local listings for the configuration you are considering: Cars.com’s 2025 award coverage and Kia’s EV9 specifications.

Cars.com also reported that most trims can fast-charge at up to 210 kW, with an ideal 10%–80% charge taking just under 25 minutes. That is a best-case charging claim from the award coverage; actual time depends on trim and conditions. If you routinely carry a full cabin, evaluate the EV9’s passenger and cargo fit in person and consider whether charging stops fit your usual trips.
Best 2025 EV SUV for range choice: Hyundai IONIQ 5
The IONIQ 5 offers a broad range of EPA estimates across its 2025 configurations. Hyundai lists:

|---|---|
| SE, SEL, or Limited RWD | 318 miles |
| SE or SEL AWD | 290 miles |
| Limited AWD | 269 miles |
| XRT AWD | 259 miles |
| SE RWD Standard Range | 245 miles |
These are Hyundai Motor America’s listed 2025 model-page estimates; the drivetrain and trim matter as much as the model name. The 318-mile figure applies to the specified RWD trims, not every IONIQ 5. See Hyundai’s 2025 IONIQ 5 model page.
Charging access is another consideration: an Edmunds comparison distributed by AP describes the 2025 IONIQ 5’s NACS-style port as enabling charging at most Tesla Supercharger fast-charging stations. Network access and station compatibility can change, so confirm availability for your route and vehicle. In that article, Edmunds also found the IONIQ 5’s controls easier to use than the screen-heavy controls in the comparison’s 2026 Tesla Model Y. That is an editorial assessment, and the comparison is with a 2026 Model Y—not evidence about a 2025 Model Y. Read the Edmunds comparison distributed by AP.

Ford gives two examples of home charging with its specified equipment: about 7.8 hours for a standard-range RWD using 48-amp, 240-volt charging, and approximately 9.6 hours for an extended-range Premium RWD using Ford’s Connected Charge Station. These are manufacturer estimates under the stated setups, not universal charging times. Your outlet, electrical service, charger, and vehicle configuration affect results.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Home charging readiness: plan before you buy
A Level 2 home charger can make daily charging more convenient, but equipment alone does not establish that your home is ready. Electrical capacity, installation requirements, parking location, and local rules vary. Ask a qualified installer to assess the site and confirm that the proposed equipment works with your vehicle and electrical service. Ford’s charging information discusses home stations and mobile power cords, but it does not establish a specific charger as the right choice for every buyer.
If you expect to rely mainly on public charging, check the stations near home and along regular routes, including the networks and connectors supported by the exact vehicle. A strong range estimate cannot compensate for inconvenient charging access.
Which 2025 electric SUV should you buy?
- Choose the Kia EV9 if three-row seating and room for passengers are your priority, and verify the trim-level specifications and local price before deciding.
- Choose the Hyundai IONIQ 5 if you want a five-seat SUV with a wide range of configurations and a strong listed range on specified RWD trims.
- Choose the Ford Mustang Mach-E if you want several battery and drivetrain combinations, including a listed 320-mile EPA estimate for the extended-range Premium RWD.
As a separate ownership measure—not a head-to-head vehicle test—the 2025 J.D. Power U.S. EV Experience Ownership Study reported scores of 737 for the Chevrolet Equinox EV, 728 for the Hyundai IONIQ 5, 724 for the Kia EV9, and 718 for the Ford Mustang Mach-E. These are study scores, not a direct test ranking or a substitute for comparing space, range, charging, and price for your needs. J.D. Power’s 2025 study.
