If you need dependable transportation before a preferred Honda CR‑V can be located, do not plan around a model-year announcement. Set the date you must have a vehicle, confirm which CR‑V (if any) a dealer can actually deliver, and compare its written out-the-door offer with vehicles available sooner. Honda’s U.S. model page currently lists both 2026 and 2027 CR‑V and CR‑V Hybrid models, but a listing does not prove local stock or a delivery date.
Start with the deadline, not the model year
Write down the date by which you need a usable vehicle and why that date is firm. A lease return, a failing car, a new job, a growing family, or an accessibility requirement creates different levels of urgency. Then divide your requirements into two lists.

Non-negotiables
- Total budget, including taxes, registration, destination charges, dealer fees and financing cost.
- Passenger and cargo capacity for the people, child seats, mobility equipment, pets or work gear you actually carry.
- Drivetrain or capability requirements, such as all-wheel drive, towing or ground clearance.
- Safety and accessibility equipment that cannot be added later.
- A delivery date that leaves enough time for inspection, financing and registration.
Preferences
- Specific trim, exterior color, upholstery, wheels or convenience features.
- Hybrid versus gasoline power when either meets your practical needs.
- Optional packages that are desirable but not essential.
Ask whether your current vehicle can safely cover the gap. If it has a serious mechanical, safety or reliability problem, do not treat a theoretical future delivery as a transportation plan. Price a temporary solution only after comparing its full cost with buying an acceptable vehicle now.

Honda’s U.S. vehicle page, checked October 13, 2026, lists the 2027 CR‑V and 2027 CR‑V Hybrid alongside the previous-year 2026 CR‑V and CR‑V Hybrid. That establishes that both model years are represented in Honda’s lineup; it does not establish that a particular trim, drivetrain or color is sitting at a dealer near you.
#1 Best Overall
| Model year and vehicle | Honda-listed starting MSRP | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|
| 2027 CR‑V | $31,520 | Manufacturer starting price; not a negotiated or out-the-door price and not proof of inventory. |
| 2027 CR‑V Hybrid | $36,030 | Manufacturer starting price; destination, taxes, dealer charges and financing are not a local quote. |
| 2026 CR‑V | $30,920 | Manufacturer starting price for the prior model year, subject to actual availability and dealer pricing. |
| 2026 CR‑V Hybrid | $35,630 | Manufacturer starting price; confirm whether a specific vehicle can still be obtained. |
Call or message several dealers and ask for the exact model year, trim, drivetrain and color. Request the vehicle identification number (VIN) for a unit physically on the lot, or a confirmed allocation or order status if it has not arrived. Obtain an out-the-door worksheet and a written delivery estimate. Keep the estimate conditional: transport delays, production changes and a vehicle being sold before you arrive can all alter timing.
Choose between a 2026 and 2027 CR‑V on the exact configuration
Do not assume that the newer model year automatically justifies a higher price or a wait. Compare the trim and powertrain you can actually buy, feature by feature, against the vehicle a dealer can deliver.
What is documented for the 2026 lineup
Honda’s 2026 release describes three turbocharged trims—LX, EX and EX‑L—and four hybrid trims—Sport Hybrid, TrailSport Hybrid, Sport‑L Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid. Recheck 2027 trim names and availability with Honda and the dealer; the model-page presence of a 2027 vehicle does not, by itself, confirm that every 2026 configuration carries over.

Honda says the 2026 CR‑V adds a standard 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and a wireless phone charger. Higher trims add a 10.2-inch digital instrument display. These are Honda’s stated equipment claims, so verify the window sticker for the exact vehicle rather than assuming every trim has the same hardware.
Honda assistant vice president of National Auto Sales Jessika Laudermilk described the 2026 CR‑V as combining “rugged design elements and capabilities, incredible on-road dynamics and hybrid powertrain.” That is Honda’s promotional statement, not an independent evaluation.
A practical 2026-versus-2027 worksheet
| Question | 2026 vehicle | 2027 vehicle |
|---|---|---|
| Can the dealer identify a VIN or confirmed allocation? | Record the VIN or allocation reference. | Record the VIN or allocation reference. |
| Required powertrain and drivetrain | Confirm gasoline or hybrid and front- or all-wheel drive. | Confirm gasoline or hybrid and front- or all-wheel drive. |
| Required safety and convenience equipment | Verify on the window sticker and in the vehicle. | Verify on the window sticker and in the vehicle. |
| Out-the-door price | Include every fee, tax, accessory and incentive. | Include every fee, tax, accessory and incentive. |
| Written delivery date | Use a date or date range supplied by the dealer. | Use a date or date range supplied by the dealer. |
If a 2026 unit meets your needs and is available at a reasonable all-in price, the older model year can solve the deadline without sacrificing the core vehicle. If the 2027 version offers a must-have feature and the dealer can document a delivery that fits your deadline, waiting can be rational. A model-year label alone is not a reason to accept an unknown delivery date or a large premium.

Treat those names as a starting list, not an assurance that a local dealer has one available or that it matches your budget.

Published CR‑V and RAV4 figures, with their limits
Honda’s 2026 comparison tables provide the following manufacturer-published figures. They are not an independent test and may apply to a particular configuration.
| Vehicle and configuration | Maximum cargo capacity | Fuel economy | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 Honda CR‑V Hybrid | 76.5 cubic feet | 43/36/40 mpg city/highway/combined (2WD) | American Honda Motor Co., Inc., 2026; maximum cargo figure does not mean every configuration has identical usable volume. |
| 2026 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid | 70.4 cubic feet | 47/40/43 mpg city/highway/combined (FWD) | American Honda Motor Co., Inc., 2026 comparison table; verify the exact RAV4 trim and current EPA listing. |
| 2026 Honda CR‑V Hybrid AWD | Not stated in the cited table | 40/34/37 mpg city/highway/combined | American Honda Motor Co., Inc., 2026 manufacturer comparison with Forester; recheck the precise trim and EPA figures. |
The independent AP-hosted Edmunds comparison dated December 3, 2025, described both the CR‑V and RAV4 as strong contenders and favored the 2026 RAV4 for that comparison’s mix of value, technology and efficiency. Its prices and conclusions are tied to that reporting date; use it as one perspective, not a universal ranking or a promise of today’s deal.

Run a dealer call that produces usable answers
- State your deadline. Tell the salesperson the date the vehicle must be delivered and whether an earlier date is required for inspection or registration.
- Name the exact vehicle. Give model year, trim, powertrain, drivetrain and acceptable colors. State which preferences can be relaxed.
- Ask where the vehicle is. For on-site inventory, request the VIN. For an incoming unit, request the allocation or order reference and the latest written arrival estimate.
- Request the complete price. Ask for an itemized out-the-door quote including destination, documentation, registration, taxes, accessories, protection products, trade-in assumptions and every mandatory fee.
- Confirm financing separately. Request the annual percentage rate, term, required down payment and total amount financed. Compare the loan independently of the monthly payment.
- Get commitments in writing. Save the quote, stock status and delivery estimate with the date and salesperson’s name.
- Repeat with at least one other dealer. A second quote reveals whether a fee, markup or delivery claim is unusual and gives you a fallback if the first vehicle sells.
Decide when waiting is unsafe financially or logistically
Waiting is reasonable only when the probability of delivery before your deadline is credible and the value of the desired configuration exceeds the cost and risk of delay. Consider the complete bridge cost: rental or rideshare, insurance, storage, missed work, repairs needed to keep an old vehicle running and any duplicate registration or transaction fees. Compare that total with the price difference between an available vehicle and the preferred CR‑V.
Do not place a nonrefundable deposit without written terms covering the vehicle specification, estimated arrival, deposit refund conditions, price changes, dealer-installed accessories and what happens if the deadline is missed. A “coming soon” web page is not a substitute for those terms.

- Your current car cannot be operated safely or reliably until the projected arrival.
- No dealer can identify the required CR‑V configuration or provide a delivery estimate that fits.
- The available CR‑V carries fees or a markup that exceeds the value of waiting.
- A comparable SUV meets your must-haves at a transparent out-the-door price.
When a temporary plan can be justified
A short-term rental, borrowing arrangement or repair can work when its dated, written cost is lower than purchasing the wrong vehicle under pressure. Include mileage limits, insurance, deposits, repair risk and the cost of returning or selling the temporary vehicle. Do not choose a temporary plan merely because a dealer used an unconfirmed arrival date.
Inspect and finalize the car that meets the deadline
- Match the VIN on the vehicle, window sticker, purchase contract and insurance documents.
- Verify the trim, drivetrain, equipment and included accessories against your quote.
- Check for transport damage, warning lights, tire condition, fluid leaks, panel gaps and a complete key set.
- Pair your phone, test driver-assistance alerts, operate the liftgate and confirm charging ports and climate controls.
- Read the final buyer’s order before signing; the out-the-door total should match the agreed worksheet or explain every change.
- Obtain copies of the warranty, financing contract, temporary registration and any deposit or trade-in documentation.
A simple decision rule
Buy the CR‑V if the exact configuration is available by your deadline and its written out-the-door price and financing fit your budget. Choose a different model year, trim or comparable SUV when it meets your non-negotiables sooner and at a defensible total cost. Keep waiting only when the dealer can document the vehicle and timing and the benefit of that specific CR‑V outweighs the measurable cost of bridging the gap.
