Check your Dodge Dart’s VIN in NHTSA’s recall lookup and contact a Chrysler/Dodge dealer for vehicle-specific instructions. The second recall, campaign 25V674, covers 298,439 potentially involved model-year 2013–2016 Darts; the filing said its remedy was still under development in October 2025, and the sources cited here do not confirm its status in October 2026.
Is your Dodge Dart included in the second recall?
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) filed safety recall 25V674 on October 9, 2025. It lists 298,439 potentially involved 2013–2016 Dodge Darts and estimates that 2% have the defect. The suspect vehicles were produced from February 24, 2012, through October 4, 2016. The filing excludes similar vehicles built before that period and vehicles with a manual transmission.
Those are campaign-level criteria, not a determination that every Dart in those model years has the defect. Use NHTSA’s recall lookup to search by VIN. NHTSA says a VIN or license-plate search identifies whether a specific vehicle needs a recall repair; a year, make and model search returns general recall information. Some recently announced recalls may not yet show every affected VIN, so check again if needed.
What is the transmission issue?
The shift cable may fail to stay connected to the transmission. If it disconnects, the transmission may not respond as expected to the driver’s selected gear. A vehicle the driver believes is in Park may not actually be secured and could roll away, creating a crash and injury risk. The 25V674 filing describes possible loss of Park function or movement in an unintended direction.

Why is this a second shift-cable recall?
The 2019 campaign addressed a cable bushing
NHTSA campaign 19V293, manufacturer campaign V34, covered certain 2013–2016 Dodge Darts with six-speed automatic transmissions. NHTSA’s April 2019 recall acknowledgment said the shifter-cable bushing could deteriorate and detach, allowing the cable to separate. The announced repair was replacement of the transmission-side bushing, free of charge. See NHTSA’s 19V293 recall acknowledgment.
NHTSA later examined reports after the earlier repair
After receiving reports alleging failures in vehicles that had received the 19V293 remedy, NHTSA opened investigation RQ25002. Its December 12, 2025 closing resume says the agency received 63 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires alleging worn or misadjusted shifter cables and/or cable detachments after the earlier remedy. The resume’s summary table lists zero crashes or fires, zero injury incidents and zero fatality incidents; those figures describe the incidents reported in that summary, not proof that the defect cannot cause harm.

The investigation resume says FCA and Dura determined the earlier repair did not sufficiently address the issue for the newly identified population. The new vehicle recall is 25V674; a related equipment-level recall is 25E-065. The new campaign is intended to cover affected Darts repaired under 19V293 or otherwise equipped with suspect service parts. The investigation record is available in NHTSA’s RQ25002 closing resume.
What should owners do now?
- Look up the vehicle by VIN. Use the VIN search at NHTSA.gov/recalls to see whether your specific Dart needs a repair. A model-year search alone cannot confirm your vehicle’s status.
- Contact a Chrysler/Dodge dealer. Ask whether campaign 25V674 applies to your VIN and what instructions or repair are currently available. Follow the manufacturer’s vehicle-specific guidance.
- Check again if the VIN search is inconclusive. NHTSA notes that VINs for recently announced recalls may be added over time. A dealer can also help confirm the campaign status.
Do not treat a do-it-yourself fix or aftermarket cable as a substitute for the official recall remedy. This is a safety campaign, and the appropriate action depends on the vehicle’s VIN and the manufacturer’s instructions.

Is the final remedy available?
The October 9, 2025 recall filing said the remedy was under development. FCA projected interim owner notices beginning in November 2025, followed by a second notice when the final remedy became available. NHTSA’s December 12, 2025 investigation closing resume also described the improved design as under development. These dated records do not establish whether a final remedy is available as of October 7, 2026; use the VIN lookup and dealer confirmation for current instructions.

Dodge Dart owners may also encounter campaign 15V-542, manufacturer campaign R42. It was a separate transmission-related recall, not a shift-cable campaign. FCA’s January 2016 dealer instructions limited it to certain 2013–2015 Darts with a 1.4-liter engine and dry dual-clutch transmission. The reported risk was a transmission control module circuit opening and shifting the transaxle into Neutral; the repair called for replacing the TCM and its mounting bracket. FCA’s instructions described about 23,500 vehicles for that configuration. See the R42 / 15V-542 dealer instructions.
