Former world featherweight champion Naseem Hamed was sentenced to 15 months in prison after pleading guilty to dangerous driving over a 2005 crash in Sheffield. He was also banned from driving for four years, then released after serving 16 weeks.
What happened in the Sheffield crash?
Hamed, who boxed as “Prince” Naseem, was driving a Mercedes SLR McLaren when he crashed in Sheffield in May 2005, according to The Guardian’s court report. The crash injured Anthony Burgin and Burgin’s wife. The report said Burgin suffered fractures to “every major bone in his body.”
What sentence did Naseem Hamed receive?
Hamed pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and was sentenced in May 2006 to 15 months in prison. The court also disqualified him from driving for four years, The Guardian reported. Judge Alan Goldsack QC said: “I have no doubt the only possible sentence here is an immediate custodial sentence.”
