MyMonthlyCar is building a marketplace for month-to-month car rentals from local dealerships, using used vehicles already on dealer lots rather than a fleet owned by a conventional rental company. The distinction matters: the company’s terms describe it as an intermediary, not the rental provider or insurer. When TechCrunch reported on October 1, 2026, seven dealerships had signed up to test the service, while its insurance program was still being finalized.
How MyMonthlyCar is meant to work
The proposed exchange is straightforward: a dealer makes a used vehicle available, and someone who needs a car for a few months rents it through MyMonthlyCar. TechCrunch reported that the service was designed for month-to-month use, with no short-term rental option described in its coverage. The company also presents a possible path from renting to buying, but that is not a guaranteed purchase option or lease right; availability depends on the dealer and the specific arrangement. This is different from a conventional rental company that owns or controls its own fleet, and from peer-to-peer car sharing built around individual owners’ vehicles. MyMonthlyCar’s terms say the platform connects dealers and guests and that “MyMonthlyCar is not a rental car company.” The terms also say it does not itself provide vehicle-sharing, rental, or insurance services, subject to exceptions described in the terms. What the platform charges
The company’s terms state a 10% fee on the guest’s monthly rental spend and a separate 10% fee on the dealer’s monthly rental revenue. These are platform fees; they do not establish the total cost of a booking, which will depend on the vehicle and applicable booking terms. MyMonthlyCar terms of service

Insurance and vehicle responsibilities need close attention
Insurance is the most consequential unresolved operational question. TechCrunch reported that MyMonthlyCar was working with an insurance broker to finalize a program; that report does not establish that the program launched or that coverage is included. The company terms retrieved for this article say MyMonthlyCar does not insure guests, dealers, or vehicles, and place responsibility for insurance on the guest and/or dealer. They also state that dealers cannot offer liability insurance through the service and that a guest must have a personal auto policy covering the booked vehicle, subject to the terms’ details. Because the terms page does not show a revision date, anyone considering a booking should confirm the current policy and the booking-specific requirements directly with the company and dealer. The terms also assign guests financial responsibility for physical damage or theft during a trip. Dealers, in turn, are responsible for providing safe, operable, registered, insured vehicles with clean titles. Guests are instructed to visually inspect the vehicle and upload photos of any pre-existing damage before use. That documentation can help record the vehicle’s condition, but the terms do not establish that MyMonthlyCar independently verifies roadworthiness.

What is known about the test—and what remains a target
TechCrunch reported on October 1, 2026 that seven dealerships had signed on to test the service. That is evidence of an early test cohort, not of completed rentals, repeat demand, realized revenue, or broad availability. The startup’s stated first-year goals—100 dealerships, 2,000 monthly rentals, and $300,000 in revenue—and the founder’s five-year revenue goal of $42 million are projections reported by TechCrunch, not achieved results. TechCrunch
Founder Igor Dobrianskyi framed the opportunity as matching depreciating used inventory with people who need a car for a few months. TechCrunch also reported his claim that there are 76,000 U.S. dealerships; the article did not identify an original statistical source for that number, so it should be understood as the founder’s cited estimate, not an independently verified count. What to check before booking
- Ask the dealer and platform which insurance policy applies to the specific vehicle and rental, and confirm that your personal auto policy meets the booking requirements.
- Review the full booking price and terms, including the two stated 10% platform fees and any other charges or conditions shown for that booking.
- Inspect the vehicle before driving and document existing damage as the terms direct; make sure the condition and title details are clear with the dealer.
- If you are interested in buying after renting, ask whether the dealer offers that option and get its conditions in writing rather than assuming the rental creates a purchase right.
