What happened in the Worli BMW crash?
On July 7, 2024, a BMW struck Kaveri Nakhwa and her husband, Pradeep, in Mumbai’s Worli area. Kaveri died and Pradeep was injured. Contemporary reports described her being dragged by the car, but accounts differed on the distance: Scroll reported nearly two kilometres, while later police reporting cited by Hindustan Times described 1.5 km. Mihir Shah, son of Rajesh Shah, was arrested on July 9, 2024, according to Scroll. Police named Mihir, Rajesh and family driver Rajrishi Bidawat in the case.
What did Aaditya Thackeray demand?
On July 10, 2024, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Aaditya Thackeray called for the case to be treated as murder rather than as a hit-and-run. He wrote: “I have demanded that Mihir Rajesh Shah- the accused, must be tried for murder and not just hit and run.” He also asked, “Why was he allowed to be on the run for 60 hours? Who was shielding him?” These were Thackeray’s demands and questions, not findings by investigators or a court. Scroll

What charges did police report?
Police initially registered charges including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash driving and destruction of evidence. In October 2024, Hindustan Times reported that police had filed a 716-page charge sheet naming Mihir Shah, Rajesh Shah and Rajrishi Bidawat. The report said investigators added a drunk-driving charge against Mihir based on witness statements, CCTV footage and bar bills. It also reported that a blood sample taken two days after the crash tested negative for alcohol. Those details are police-attributed allegations and investigative claims; they do not establish intoxication as fact. Hindustan Times

The latest located update, published by The Indian Express on June 11, 2026, says a Mumbai sessions court framed charges against Mihir Shah and Rajrishi Bidawat, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder and rash and negligent driving. The report says the court considered the material sufficient to create grave suspicion and frame charges. It also notes a charge concerning disappearance or destruction of evidence against Rajesh Shah. The Indian Express

Framing charges is a procedural step that allows a trial to proceed; it is not a finding of guilt. The June 2026 report does not establish a final judgment or conviction.
