Ford’s F-Series was the U.S. truck sales leader in calendar-year 2024, according to Ford’s year-end announcement. However, a single, fully comparable model ranking is not established: published totals from GM Authority and GoodCarBadCar differ substantially, and manufacturers report some segment and electric-truck figures separately. The table below therefore labels every number by source rather than presenting a false definitive order.
Scope: what “most popular” means here
This article covers calendar-year 2024 U.S. pickup sales. It includes full-size, midsize and small pickups where a publisher reported a figure, but the sources do not use one documented definition for every model. Some totals may handle heavy-duty versions, fleet sales or electric variants differently. Popularity means units reported sold; it does not establish reliability, safety, value or suitability for a particular buyer.
What the manufacturers confirmed
Ford F-Series: overall truck leader claim
Ford said the F-Series remained America’s best-selling truck for the 48th consecutive year in its 2025 year-end release covering 2024. The retrieved announcement does not provide an annual F-Series unit total, so that leadership statement cannot be converted into a directly comparable number from the manufacturer release alone.
Toyota Tacoma: small-pickup leader
Toyota said Tacoma was America’s number-one small pickup for the 20th consecutive year. That is a segment claim; it does not mean Tacoma outsold full-size lines such as F-Series, Silverado or Ram.

General Motors: full-size group leadership
General Motors said it led full-size pickup sales for the fifth consecutive year. GM’s statement refers to the manufacturer’s full-size pickup group, not to one Chevrolet or GMC nameplate beating F-Series in a universal model-by-model count.
Reported 2024 U.S. sales figures
GM Authority’s 2025 compilation provides the following figures. It lists the F-150 Lightning separately from the F-Series total and identifies the figures as publisher-attributed values.

| Pickup line | 2024 units reported | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Ford F-Series | 732,139 | GM Authority compilation; F-150 Lightning listed separately |
| Chevrolet Silverado | 552,836 | GM Authority compilation |
| Ram Pickup | 373,120 | GM Authority compilation |

| Ford F-150 Lightning | 33,510 | GM Authority compilation; electric model shown separately |
| Tesla Cybertruck | 24,300 | GM Authority compilation |
These figures should not be treated as a definitive all-class ranking. The compilation separates at least one electric derivative, and its inclusion rules for other variants are not presented as a common methodology for every line.
Why another published table gives different results
GoodCarBadCar’s table labeled for 2024 reports materially different values for several of the same nameplates:
Rank #3

| Pickup line | GM Authority figure | GoodCarBadCar figure |
|---|---|---|
| Ford F-Series | 732,139 | 834,641 |
| Chevrolet Silverado | 552,836 | 560,265 |
| Ram Pickup | 373,120 | 373,118 |
| GMC Sierra | 322,946 | 298,698 |
| Toyota Tacoma | Not stated in the GM Authority figures above | 192,813 |
The discrepancy is unresolved in the available material. It may reflect different counting conventions, model-family boundaries or revisions, but the sources do not document enough common methodology to reconcile them. Consequently, assigning an exact first-through-last ranking would imply precision the evidence does not support.

Full-size trucks dominate the headline
F-Series, Silverado, Ram Pickup and Sierra are the major full-size nameplates in the reported totals. Ford’s leadership claim and GM’s group-leadership claim can both be true because they describe different comparisons: one identifies the F-Series line, while the other aggregates GM’s full-size Chevrolet and GMC pickups.

Class leaders are not overall leaders
Tacoma’s 20-year small-pickup leadership is meaningful within that class, but a small or midsize truck should not be compared with a full-size total without stating the segment. Likewise, an electric pickup’s separate reporting can change the apparent order if it is later combined with its gasoline-powered family.
Sales are a popularity signal, not a buying verdict
High volume can reflect availability, fleet deliveries, incentives, body-style breadth and established dealer networks. It does not answer questions about towing configuration, fuel economy, maintenance costs, crash performance, ride comfort or long-term ownership for your use case.

Bottom line
For 2024 U.S. sales, Ford identifies the F-Series as the best-selling truck, Toyota identifies Tacoma as the small-pickup leader, and GM identifies its full-size pickup group as the segment leader. Because the available secondary totals conflict, the responsible conclusion is a set of attributed leaders and reported figures—not a supposedly exact universal ranking.
