If your Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R is covered by recall 25V798 and its updated repair has not been completed, do not ride it. Kawasaki’s safety advisory says owners should keep affected motorcycles off the road until an authorized repair is done. The recall covers certain 2024–2026 models, not every ZX-6R from those model years, so check the motorcycle’s 17-character VIN and confirm its status with an authorized Kawasaki dealer.
What the Kawasaki ZX-6R recall says
The campaign is NHTSA recall 25V798, Kawasaki manufacturer recall MC25-11. In its December 9, 2025 amended report, Kawasaki advised: “DO NOT RIDE YOUR 2024 & 2025 & 2026 NINJA® ZX™-6R, -6R KRT EDITION, KRT 40th Anniversary Edition ABS, -6R ABS, & -6R KRT EDITION ABS UNTIL AN AUTHORIZED REPAIR HAS BEEN COMPLETED.” This is the manufacturer’s advisory in the NHTSA Part 573 Safety Recall Report 25V798.
The reason is a possible engine defect that can cause an unexpected loss of power or stall while riding. Kawasaki’s report says a warning may not occur, and an engine stall can increase crash risk. Do not try to inspect or repair the engine yourself; the remedy is an authorized dealer repair.
Which Ninja ZX-6R motorcycles may be affected?
Kawasaki’s amended report lists certain motorcycles produced from April 3, 2023, through July 15, 2025. The listed variants are:

The report identifies 19,823 potentially involved vehicles and estimates a 1% defect rate. Both are Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A.’s estimates in its 2025 filing, not confirmed counts of motorcycles that failed. Kawasaki also reported that it knew of four U.S. cases in which a motorcycle repaired under the earlier recall later stalled; that is Kawasaki’s reported case count, not a measure of all failures.
Model year, trim, appearance, or production window alone cannot establish whether an individual motorcycle is included. Applicability is VIN-specific.

What is the defect, and why is 25V798 a new recall?
Kawasaki says excessive axial force from crankcase bolts can damage the engine’s #5 metal crankshaft bushing by causing improper oil clearance. If the bushing seizes, the engine may lose power or stall while the motorcycle is operating. Kawasaki says the problem may occur without warning.
Recall 25V798 is related to earlier campaign 25V376, which covered certain 2024–2025 motorcycles. Kawasaki’s amended report says variation in bolt tightening during the earlier recall repair process could still allow excessive axial force. The new campaign also reaches certain 2026 motorcycles and includes motorcycles that received the earlier remedy. Therefore, a 25V376 repair alone does not establish that the updated 25V798 repair has been completed.

What repair will the Kawasaki dealer perform?
Kawasaki’s updated remedy calls for inspection of the #5 bushing and use of an angle-tightening method on the crankcase bolts. If the bushing is abnormal or damaged, the dealer is to replace parts and properly tighten the crankshaft, or otherwise repair or replace the engine as needed. The NHTSA-sourced campaign listing says the dealer recall repair is free of charge.
This is not a rider maintenance procedure. Do not disassemble the crankcase or attempt to diagnose the bushing yourself.

How do I check whether my Kawasaki has an open recall?
- Find the motorcycle’s 17-character VIN. Use the VIN-check resources on NHTSA’s recalls page to check for open recalls.
- Contact an authorized Kawasaki dealer and ask the dealer to confirm whether recall 25V798 / MC25-11 applies to that VIN and whether the updated repair is recorded as complete.
- If the motorcycle was repaired under 25V376, specifically ask whether the 25V798 repair has also been completed. Do not assume the earlier repair resolves the newer campaign.
- If the recall applies and the updated repair is not complete, do not ride the motorcycle. Contact the dealer to discuss how to arrange transport; the campaign information cited here does not establish that Kawasaki covers towing or transport.
Kawasaki’s listed customer-service number is (855) 878-4217. The campaign listing says 25V798 owner letters were mailed December 15, 2025; that notification date does not show whether a specific owner received a letter or whether a particular motorcycle has been repaired. The listing was last synced August 10, 2026, so confirm current status directly with NHTSA, Kawasaki, or an authorized dealer.
