Mitsubishi’s updated Delica D:5 is a Japan-market refresh of its long-running minivan, not a newly launched production camper. Sales began in Japan on January 9, 2026, with changes to the exterior, cabin, S-AWC all-wheel control and e-Assist driver assistance. The Active Camper that drew attention at Tokyo Auto Salon 2026 was a LOGOS collaboration show vehicle; Mitsubishi’s announcement does not establish it as a retail conversion.
What changed on the 2026 Delica D:5?
Mitsubishi updated the existing D:5 rather than introducing a separate camper model. The most visible changes are a revised grille and bumpers, wheel-arch moldings and updated cabin details, including an 8-inch color LCD meter. Mitsubishi also says the refreshed model uses S-AWC and strengthened e-Assist.

What does S-AWC do, and which modes are listed?
Mitsubishi’s Japan-market FAQ lists four S-AWC modes: NORMAL, ECO, GRAVEL and SNOW. These are the manufacturer’s named drive modes; the available information does not establish comparative off-road results or show how the refreshed D:5 performs against earlier versions in independent testing.

Is the Delica D:5 Active Camper a production camper?
Not according to Mitsubishi’s cited announcement. The Active Camper was one of the D:5 display vehicles shown at Tokyo Auto Salon 2026, developed in collaboration with outdoor brand LOGOS. Mitsubishi described a white-birch wood-grain finish, brown interior and retained 4WD capability. The announcement presents a show build, not a camper package confirmed for sale.
Mitsubishi also displayed a separate D:5 Wild Adventure vehicle with a flat roof carrier, large mud flaps and a stainless-steel rear under cover. These displays show accessory ideas, but they do not verify that the pictured equipment is standard on the 2026 production model or available as a particular retail package.

Will a roof rack fit the updated Delica?
Do not assume a generic rack—or even a rack shown on a display vehicle—fits your D:5. Mitsubishi’s display information identifies the Wild Adventure’s flat roof carrier, while its genuine-accessory catalog is available through the company’s accessory search; the available documentation does not confirm exact 2026 production-model fitment or retail availability for that carrier.
Before buying, check the rack maker’s fitment information for the specific model year, grade and roof configuration, and confirm load limits and mounting requirements. A product listing that merely names “Delica D:5” is not enough if it does not identify the applicable year and configuration.

When did sales start, and what did it cost in Japan?
Mitsubishi announced Japan-market sales beginning January 9, 2026. Its December 18, 2025 announcement gave a recommended retail-price range of ¥4,510,000–¥4,944,500, including Japan’s 10% consumption tax. That is the announced Japanese-market range, not a current price or availability statement for other countries.
On January 9, Mitsubishi reported about 7,000 pre-orders as of January 8, against a monthly sales plan of 2,000. That is a dated pre-launch snapshot, not a continuing sales total.

Why does the Delica have a cult following?
The name and concept predate the D:5 by decades. Mitsubishi says “Delica” derives from “delivery car” and reports more than 1.38 million cumulative Delica sales since the first model launched in 1968. The company’s enduring pitch is the combination of minivan space and comfort with more rugged, four-wheel-drive-oriented capability.

That is an English translation of Mitsubishi CEO Takao Kato’s statement in the company’s January 9, 2026 release—not an independent assessment of the vehicle.
Where is the updated D:5 available?
The announced sales start and price are for Japan. Mitsubishi’s FAQ identifies its information as applying to the domestic Japanese market; the cited material does not establish availability, specifications or pricing in other markets. Buyers elsewhere should confirm plans with their local Mitsubishi distributor rather than infer a launch from the Japan announcement.
