Set these controls in this order
This sequence puts safety-related choices first, then makes the car recognize the right driver and load the right digital preferences. It is a practical setup order, not a factory-prescribed “best” configuration.

Make the first pass while the Countryman is stationary. That gives you time to read the consequences of each option instead of trying to change a menu while driving.

Confirm the correct manual before you begin
The procedures below are based on the 2025 U.S. MINI Countryman Owner’s Manual, Online Edition II/24. A 2026 vehicle, an earlier Countryman, or a car sold in another country can show different labels or omit a feature because of its equipment or national-market configuration.
MINI’s owner portal asks for the vehicle’s 17-digit VIN and returns the applicable digital manual: Access your owner’s manual. MINI also provides model-specific offline information through its MINI Motorer’s Guide app. Keep that source open when a menu in your car does not match the wording here.
Review driver-assistance warnings first
Open the safety menu
- Park the Countryman safely and switch on the vehicle’s operating system.
- Open the Apps menu.
- Select Vehicle, then Driving settings.
- Choose Driver Assistance.
- Continue to Safety and warnings.
MINI’s OS 9 support page confirms this top-level route: Changing driver-assistance settings in Operating System 9. The manual’s safety section is the place to inspect warning behavior before you drive, not a promise that every Countryman has every listed option.

The manual describes an adjustable warning time for Forward Collision Mitigation. A more sensitive or earlier setting can produce more alerts, including alerts that arrive very early or are unfounded, and can lead to reactions you did not expect. Treat the choice as a trade-off in timing and frequency rather than as a universal ranking.

MINI does not prescribe one setting for every driver. Select a behavior you understand, then reassess if the warnings are distracting or arriving later than you can comfortably handle.
Set lane-departure behavior and steering feedback
Lane Departure Warning can be configured for when it warns. The manual identifies two behaviors: Enhanced and In dangerous situations. Feature details, including whether steering intervention is available, depend on the vehicle’s equipment and market.

Separately adjust steering-wheel feedback at Feedback via steering wheel → Vibration intensity. This changes the intensity of the vibration rather than deciding when the lane-departure system detects a drift. If your car lacks the option, verify its equipment and consult the VIN-specific manual instead of assuming the feature is defective.
Keep the system’s limits in view
Some Intelligent Safety systems may activate automatically whenever driving starts, depending on the national-market version. Activation does not make the Countryman self-driving. MINI warns that assistance systems can fail to respond, respond late or incorrectly, or react without cause. The driver remains responsible for monitoring the road and must “Actively intervene as warranted.” Read the complete safety information in the 2025 MINI Countryman Owner’s Manual before relying on any warning or steering response.

Make the car load the right driver profile
Assign a key or digital key to a MINI ID
- Tap the MINI ID icon or the current profile image.
- Open Settings.
- Select Driver recognition.
- Follow the prompts to assign the vehicle key or digital key you use to the intended MINI ID.
- Lock and unlock the vehicle with that assigned key to check that the expected profile loads.
MINI’s OS 9 guidance describes the same feature as Profile settings → Driver recognition; the wording can vary slightly by software or vehicle configuration. The official explanation is available at Automatic driver recognition for MINI ID.
Know what profile synchronization includes
The manual says MINI ID synchronization can include navigation destinations and map preferences, media favorites and stations, and Interaction Unit configuration. That is useful in a shared vehicle because the recognized driver can receive the intended digital layout instead of the previous driver’s choices.
Do not assume every personal setting follows the profile. The manual distinguishes seat and climate comfort settings and privacy settings that synchronize only on first login. Check the active profile after another driver has used the car, particularly if a shared key or digital key was reassigned.

Connect your phone and set infotainment preferences
Use the model-specific connectivity instructions
The Countryman manual includes operating instructions for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Exact pairing screens, permissions, and supported functions can vary with the phone, software version, and vehicle equipment, so follow the procedure in your VIN-specific manual rather than assuming another model’s path is identical.

After the phone connects, verify three practical items while parked:
- The intended phone is the one the vehicle recognizes for the current driver profile.
- Your preferred navigation behavior is active, including saved destinations or map preferences that should synchronize.
- Your media favorites or stations are associated with the correct MINI ID.
These are sensible setup priorities because MINI describes navigation, media, and Interaction Unit preferences as profile-synchronizable categories; they are not a guarantee that every app or phone setting will transfer.

The driver and front passenger can choose temperatures independently. Tap the temperature display and set the desired value for each side.
- Tap the temperature display in the climate interface.
- Set the driver’s desired temperature.
- Set the front passenger’s desired temperature separately if needed.
- Leave the automatic climate control running long enough to adjust.
MINI specifically advises against rapidly switching between temperature settings because the automatic system needs time to respond. If the cabin feels too warm or too cool immediately after a change, wait for the system to settle before making another large adjustment.

A parked setup checklist
Use this checklist after an ownership change, a software update, or a key reassignment:
- Open Apps menu → Vehicle → Driving settings → Driver Assistance → Safety and warnings.
- Read the Forward Collision Mitigation warning-time description and select a timing you can manage without surprise reactions.
- Choose the available Lane Departure Warning behavior, noting whether your equipment offers Enhanced or In dangerous situations.
- Set Feedback via steering wheel → Vibration intensity if that control is present.
- Confirm the correct key or digital key under Driver recognition.
- Connect the intended phone using the Apple CarPlay or Android Auto instructions for your vehicle.
- Check navigation, media, and Interaction Unit preferences under the recognized MINI ID.
- Set driver and passenger temperatures and allow automatic climate control time to react.
What to do when a setting or menu is missing
The path does not match
First check the model year, country, and software version. The documented route is for Operating System 9, and exact labels can vary with configuration. Enter the VIN in MINI’s owner-manual portal and use that edition’s terminology.
A lane or steering option is unavailable
The manual makes lane-departure behavior and steering intervention equipment- and market-dependent. An absent option may therefore be normal for your Countryman. Do not infer that the system is malfunctioning until the VIN-specific manual says the feature should be fitted.

Check which physical key or digital key is assigned to each MINI ID, then lock and unlock the vehicle with the intended key. If several people share one key, automatic recognition cannot reliably distinguish drivers from the key alone.
Warnings seem too frequent or unpredictable
Revisit the Forward Collision Mitigation timing and lane-departure choices while parked. Earlier or more sensitive timing can increase early or unfounded warnings, and MINI cautions that assistance systems can respond late, incorrectly, or without cause. Keep watching the road and intervene whenever necessary.
The phone or media preferences are wrong
Confirm that the intended MINI ID is active before changing phone, navigation, or media preferences. Then repeat the model-specific Apple CarPlay or Android Auto procedure in the manual. A preference saved under another profile will not necessarily appear for the current driver.
Use the settings as aids, not substitutes for driving
The most useful first changes are the ones you can verify without guessing: review warning behavior, connect the right driver profile, confirm phone and media ownership, and set climate temperatures patiently. Keep the Countryman’s exact equipment and market in mind, and use the VIN-specific manual whenever the car’s screen differs from these 2025 U.S. instructions.
