Featured in 2019, the slant-back was one of 12 planned Launch Editions—not a standard H1 or a current Hummer EV—and its roughly $295,000 price is historical, not a current valuation.
What makes build #006 distinctive?
New Atlas identified #006 as a bespoke slant-back Hummer H1 in a feature published May 17, 2019. The vehicle was part of Mil-Spec Automotive’s planned 12-unit Launch Edition run. That places it in the H1 restomod category: a customized version of the original Hummer platform, rather than a factory production model or the later electric Hummer EV. New Atlas’s 2019 feature is the principal source for the specifications below.
The build’s premise was to retain a rugged, military-inspired appearance while improving power, equipment and cabin comfort. The published specifications describe what the feature reported; they are not independent performance or off-road test results.
Powertrain and drivetrain
New Atlas reported a 6.6-liter LBZ Duramax diesel from the 2006 H1 Alpha, rated for this build at 500 hp and 1,000 lb-ft (1,356 Nm). For comparison, the feature gave factory figures of 360 hp and 650 lb-ft (881 Nm). It also said Mil-Spec upgraded the Allison six-speed transmission because the standard transmission could not handle the modified engine’s reported torque.

The article describes a later GM heavy-duty-truck drivetrain replacing the H1’s standard all-wheel-drive arrangement. In the reported setup, the vehicle operates in rear-wheel drive until slip occurs. Military-spec Humvee axles and a selectable ARB Air Locker at the rear round out the described driveline. These figures and details should be understood as reported specifications, not independently verified measurements.
Off-road equipment and recovery
The build’s off-road equipment combines adjustable suspension, large tires and recovery gear. New Atlas reported a self-leveling Air-Ride system with up to four inches of pneumatic lift and eight-way adjustable damping. The listed tire and wheel combination was 38×13.50R20 Nitto Ridge Grapplers on 20×9.5 Black Rhino Armory beadlock wheels; the feature also noted a reversing camera.

A rebuilt cabin aimed at comfort
Mil-Spec reportedly gutted and rebuilt the original cabin. Marine-grade canvas, two-tone black leather and all-weather vinyl replaced the original carpet. The redesigned dashboard retained retro-style analog gauges while adding altitude and GPS speed readouts and instrumentation intended to capture performance data.

The customer reportedly requested paracord grab handles and matching luggage. The Drive identified the bags as a Mil-Spec-designed Pelican Elite Travel System. The Drive’s coverage also described the build’s tactical styling.

What the reported price does—and does not—tell you
New Atlas placed the build just under US$300,000 in its 2019 coverage; Top Gear’s headline put it at US$295,000. New Atlas also cited a standard H1 price of around US$80,000 at the time. These are period figures, not present-day asking prices or valuations. Neither source establishes current availability or what a comparable H1 restomod would cost now. Top Gear’s 2019-era headline independently reflects the reported power and approximate price.
What to compare with another H1 restomod
Build #006 is one featured configuration, not a comparison-tested benchmark. When evaluating another H1 restomod, compare the components that determine both its purpose and its compromises:

- Drivetrain layout, axle type and locker arrangement
- Suspension adjustment or travel, along with tire fitment
- Recovery equipment and its stated rating
- Cabin materials, convenience features and sound treatment
- A dated asking price, separated from historical prices for other builds
The cited coverage does not establish this vehicle’s fuel economy, operating costs, road legality in any particular jurisdiction or measured real-world capability. Current market value and availability are likewise not established.
