The 2025 Toyota Sienna had a strong sales year in the United States: Toyota Motor North America reported 101,476 Sienna Hybrid sales for calendar 2025, up 35.7% from 75,008 in 2024. That growth helps explain the buzz, but it does not prove the Sienna was 2025’s hottest car or the best-selling minivan. The more useful question is what the Sienna offers—and how it compares with the alternatives.
Why is the Sienna getting attention?
The 2025 Sienna is a hybrid-only minivan, pairing a 245-horsepower total system output with front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. Toyota estimated 36 mpg combined for FWD and 35 mpg combined for AWD when it introduced the 2025 model; those are manufacturer estimates, not real-world test results. Toyota’s 2025 model launch release provides the power and combined fuel-economy figures.
Toyota also lists estimates of up to 36 mpg city and 36 mpg highway, and a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds on its Sienna model page. These are manufacturer figures; actual fuel economy and towing suitability depend on conditions and configuration. Available features include a vacuum and FridgeBox, but equipment varies by trim.
What Toyota’s sales figures do—and don’t—show
Toyota Motor North America reported 101,476 Sienna Hybrid sales in the U.S. for calendar 2025, compared with 75,008 in 2024, a 35.7% increase. The reported figures show substantial year-over-year growth. They do not rank the Sienna against every car or minivan, so “hottest car” works as a hook, not a verified sales title. Toyota’s comparison of the 2025 Sienna LE Hybrid FWD and 2025 Kia Carnival Hybrid LXS lists greater cargo volume for the Kia in both configurations shown. These are manufacturer figures for the named trims, not universal measurements for every version of either van.

Which details matter when choosing between them?
- Drivetrain: Toyota lists available AWD for the Sienna. Compare the exact drivetrain offered on the Carnival trim you are considering.
- Cargo: The stated Carnival Hybrid configuration has more listed cargo volume in both positions, but check how each van’s seating arrangement fits your regular passengers and loads.
- Equipment and price: Compare the specific trim features and current local dealer quotes. Toyota’s 2025 launch release listed a $39,185 starting MSRP for the Sienna LE FWD, excluding dealer processing and handling; that is the historical launch MSRP, not a current price quote. Toyota’s launch release gives that figure.
What do the 2025 Sienna safety ratings say?
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) reports a mix of results for the 2025 Sienna: Good ratings for small overlap front and updated side tests, a Marginal rating for the updated moderate overlap front test, and an Acceptable rating for standard pedestrian front crash prevention. These ratings apply to the model year and test criteria identified on the IIHS 2025 Sienna page. The category-by-category picture is more informative than calling the van simply “safe” or “safest.”

U.S. third-row seat-back bolt recall
Toyota’s February 2025 notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration describes recall 25V086/25TA05 for certain 2021–2025 Sienna HV vehicles. The third-row seat-back bolts may not have been tightened to specification. Toyota’s stated remedy is for dealers to tighten the bolts free of charge. Check the VIN using Toyota’s recall lookup or contact a Toyota dealer to confirm applicability and repair status. The notice is available from NHTSA’s recall filing.
Canada-specific second-row seat-rail recall
On October 7, 2025, Toyota Canada reported a separate recall involving certain 2025 Sienna vehicles with potentially improperly welded second-row seat rails. This report is Canada-specific; it does not establish that U.S. vehicles are affected by the same issue. Owners should check current VIN status through the recall authority or Toyota in their country.
