Formula 1’s 2026 Middle Eastern calendar has changed substantially. The Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix scheduled for April did not take place because of the ongoing situation in the Middle East. Bahrain now has an announced replacement arrangement: the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia, scheduled for October 2–4 at Sepang International Circuit. Saudi Arabia, however, has no replacement date or venue on the official 2026 calendar reviewed on August 12, 2026.
What happened to the 2026 Bahrain and Saudi Arabian F1 races?
Formula 1 announced on March 14, 2026, that the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix would not take place on their planned April dates. The decision followed an evaluation of the ongoing situation in the Middle East and was made in consultation with the FIA and the respective race promoters.
Formula 1 said safety and wellbeing were the priority. It also confirmed that there would be no replacement events in April. The Formula 2, Formula 3 and F1 Academy sessions scheduled alongside those race weekends were also removed from those dates.
The wording of the March announcement was important. It cancelled the April events, but did not necessarily say that neither race could appear anywhere on the 2026 calendar later in the year. That left open the possibility of a subsequent solution, particularly for Bahrain.

The latest update: Bahrain will be hosted at Sepang
On July 26, Formula 1 and the FIA announced that Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit would host the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia from October 2–4, 2026.
This arrangement preserves the Bahrain Grand Prix’s championship identity while moving the physical event outside Bahrain. In practical terms, the race will carry the Bahrain name but be held at Sepang in Malaysia.
The event is scheduled between the Azerbaijan and Singapore Grands Prix. The official 2026 calendar reviewed on August 12 lists it as Round 16, followed by the Singapore Grand Prix on October 9–11.
There is an important qualification: the July announcement said the arrangement remained subject to final agreements and official sign-off, including approval by the FIA World Motor Sport Council. It is therefore most accurate to describe Sepang as the current announced and published arrangement, rather than claiming that every administrative condition had been independently confirmed as complete.

Saudi Arabia is in a different position from Bahrain. The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix was removed from its April date, and the official calendar reviewed for this update contains no Saudi Arabian Grand Prix—neither at Jeddah Corniche Circuit nor at another venue.

An F1 Academy update provides additional confirmation that the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix would no longer take place in April. That update restored the F1 Academy calendar to 14 races, but it did not announce a replacement Saudi Arabian Formula 1 race.
Calling Saudi Arabia “postponed” would therefore go further than the current evidence supports. The clearest description is that its April race was called off and that no replacement date or venue had been published as of August 12, 2026.

What the revised 2026 calendar means for F1 fans
The change is more than a simple postponement. It separates the event’s commercial identity from its physical location. Formula 1 and the FIA have presented the Sepang race as the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia, allowing the Bahrain-branded championship round to remain on the calendar while avoiding an April event in Bahrain.

The published calendar keeps the later-season sequence that matters to fans following the championship: the Malaysia-hosted Bahrain event is listed for October 2–4, Singapore follows on October 9–11, Qatar is scheduled for November 27–29, and Abu Dhabi for December 4–6.
The calendar reviewed does not show a Saudi Arabian replacement. That means fans should not assume that a Saudi race will be added simply because the original event was described in terms that left open the possibility of a later return.

The official announcements establish the race-calendar decisions and the stated safety rationale. Fans looking for a physical reminder of the changed season can check the official Formula 1 Store’s 2026 F1 calendar poster, where availability may change. Readers considering a live event should also verify the latest dates, venue details and inventory through official F1 ticketing, hospitality and F1 Experiences channels before making travel arrangements.
In particular, do not rely on older listings that still show an April Bahrain or Saudi Arabian race. The Sepang-hosted Bahrain event is scheduled for October 2–4, while the official calendar reviewed here contains no Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
What should fans planning for Sepang check?
- Confirm final event approval. The Sepang arrangement was announced subject to final agreements and FIA World Motor Sport Council approval.
