There is no single menu path or feature list that applies to every HS. For the version documented in MG’s January 2023 owner manual, the practical starting point is Infotainment vehicle settings → Driving Assist → Speed Assistance System Settings. That screen offers Manual Speed Assist and Intelligent Speed Assist, while Speed Limit Information is a separate sign-recognition and warning function.
Use the procedure below as a model-specific checklist, not as permission to switch off safety systems. Confirm the manual supplied with your car, then check which functions are actually fitted before changing anything.

Why MG HS settings differ from one car to another
“MG HS” covers more than one generation and several market specifications. MG UK’s manual index separates older HS and HS Plug-in Hybrid documentation from the current HS listing. A January 2023 manual therefore cannot be assumed to describe a later European HS, a plug-in hybrid, or a car sold in another country.

MG’s January 2025 European technical sheet also shows driver-assistance equipment restrictions by gearbox or powertrain. The September 2025 Spanish range sheet lists trim differences in audio, connected services and app functions. Software updates can change labels or the location of controls even when the hardware is unchanged.

Identify these details before opening a menu

If the screen in your car does not match the manual, stop rather than guessing. Use the manual for your vehicle identification number or local market, and ask an MG retailer to confirm a feature that is missing from both the menu and the specification sheet.
Speed-assistance settings: the one documented menu path
The clearest published procedure comes from the official MG HS Owner Manual issued in January 2023. In that documented version, open the infotainment system’s vehicle settings, select Driving Assist, and then open the Speed Assistance System Settings interface. The screen presents Manual Speed Assist and Intelligent Speed Assist as selectable modes.
Because this path is tied to that manual, treat the wording as version-specific. A later car may move the control, combine it with another assistance menu or use different labels.

Speed Limit Information is not speed control
The same manual describes Speed Limit Information separately. It detects road signs, shows the recognised limit and provides a visual overspeed warning. It does not mean that the car is automatically controlling its speed. The manual states: “The speed limit information function defaults to enable after the START/STOP Switch is set to ON/RUNNING.”
Manual Speed Assist and Intelligent Speed Assist are the modes that may actively intervene to control speed in the version covered by that manual. Do not confuse either mode with the sign-display function, and do not assume that a warning-only setting will behave like an intervention system.
How to choose a speed-assistance preference
- Keep Speed Limit Information enabled if you want the vehicle to display detected limits and give a visual overspeed warning. The default described above applies to the January 2023 manual and may not apply to another version.
- Review Manual Speed Assist when you prefer to make the speed decision yourself while still using the vehicle’s assistance interface, provided your manual describes that mode for your car.
- Review Intelligent Speed Assist only after reading the operating and override instructions for your exact vehicle. An intervention can feel unexpected if you have not learned how it responds to a detected limit.
Configure these options for your driving needs and local legal requirements. The driver remains responsible for observing signs and controlling the vehicle. If recognition or intervention appears incorrect, take control safely and follow the fault guidance in the vehicle manual rather than relying on the displayed limit.

What the 2025 equipment sheets say about other driver assistance
MG’s January 2025 European technical sheet lists a broad group of systems, but a specification list establishes fitment, not a universal menu, default or restart behaviour. The following is a guide to what to look for in your own manual and vehicle display.

The useful owner action is to locate the status or settings page for each system that your car actually has. Look for whether the display identifies a warning, a steering intervention or braking intervention. Do not infer that a system is fitted simply because its name appears in a general brochure, and do not infer that it is switchable because another HS version offers a control.
Infotainment settings worth reviewing
The September 2025 Spanish MG range sheet lists a 12.3-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch instrument panel, Bluetooth, navigation, USB ports and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto across the listed versions. It also shows differences in speaker equipment, connected services and app functions by trim. Those specifications make the following checks worthwhile, but the sheet does not publish a universal menu path or default for them.

Paired phones and wireless integration
- Remove phones that no longer belong to the vehicle so automatic connection goes to the intended device.
- Confirm which phone is used for calls, media and wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto when more than one device is paired.
- Check Bluetooth permissions on the phone if contacts, call history or audio metadata do not appear.
- Use a USB connection when wireless integration is unavailable or unstable, and verify which USB port is data-capable in your trim.
Audio and speaker preferences
Review balance, fade, equaliser and volume compensation if those controls are present. The Spanish range sheet indicates that audio hardware varies by trim, so a setting that appears on one car may be absent on another. Avoid judging a speaker-related option until you know which audio system your vehicle has.
Navigation alerts
Check spoken guidance volume separately from media volume, whether traffic or hazard alerts interrupt music, and whether route guidance is coming from the built-in navigation system or a connected phone. The specification confirms navigation on the listed versions, but it does not establish the default alert behaviour; use the on-screen descriptions and your manual.

Connected-service and app functions vary by trim in the 2025 Spanish sheet. Review which accounts are signed in, what data a connected service requests, and whether a previous owner’s profile remains stored. If a service is not shown in your vehicle, do not attempt to enable it through a different model’s instructions.

A safe, repeatable way to change settings
- Park securely. Make adjustments while stopped, with the vehicle in a safe location and the parking brake applied as appropriate.
- Record the starting state. Photograph or note the current assistance and infotainment choices so you can reverse a change.
- Match the documentation. Confirm the model year, market, trim, powertrain, transmission and software version against the manual and specification sheet.
- Change one item. Alter a single setting, then read the confirmation text and observe the instrument-cluster indicator.
- Test without relying on the system. On a quiet, legal route, check that the warning or intervention behaves as the manual describes. Keep full control of the vehicle.
- Restore the previous state if needed. If an alert is confusing or an intervention is unsuitable, return to the recorded setting and consult the manual or an authorised service centre.
Common problems after changing a setting
The menu path is missing
First check generation, market and software version. A feature may be absent because the car does not have the required hardware, because the function is restricted by powertrain or transmission, or because the later interface uses another menu name. Do not substitute instructions from a different HS manual.
A warning returns after every start
The January 2023 manual specifically says Speed Limit Information defaults to enabled after the START/STOP switch is set to ON/RUNNING. That statement does not prove that every other assistance preference persists. If a setting repeatedly returns, read the persistence section for your exact manual and treat the documented default as intentional unless MG provides a market-specific update.
The displayed speed limit looks wrong
Speed Limit Information relies on detected road signs and is a driver aid, not an authority that replaces the physical sign or the applicable traffic rule. Reduce speed safely, follow the road sign and report a persistent system fault through the procedure in your manual.
Phone audio or navigation is unavailable
Check that the intended phone is paired and selected for the required profile, that the correct USB port is being used when a cable is required, and that the phone’s permissions allow calls, media or navigation. Trim-level differences in connected features mean that a missing option may be an equipment difference rather than a fault.
Which changes are most worthwhile?
For an HS covered by the January 2023 manual, the highest-value review is the distinction between Speed Limit Information and the two speed-assistance modes: know whether the car is only warning you or can intervene. Next, identify which of DMS, AEB, LDW, ELK, LKA, FCW, ACC, TJA and ICA are fitted to your configuration and learn their indicators before driving in heavy traffic. Finally, clean up paired phones, audio and navigation preferences, while checking trim-specific connected-service and speaker equipment.
That order keeps the changes useful without pretending that a 2023 menu, a 2025 European specification and a Spanish trim sheet describe every MG HS. Use the manual supplied for your own car as the final authority.
