One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchShort answer: the commonly listed comparison is not a like-for-like trim test. It pairs the MG Astor Savvy Pro Petrol 1.5L Automatic (CVT) with the Astor Select Petrol 1.5L Manual. Both examples use a 1498 cc petrol engine rated at 108 bhp, but the transmission, equipment level and quoted city price are different variables. Choose Savvy Pro if its higher-trim equipment and automatic driving convenience justify the extra outlay; choose Select if you prefer a manual gearbox and want to keep the purchase simpler and potentially less expensive.
Before booking, ask the dealer to print the current model-year equipment list and an itemized quotation for the exact engine-and-transmission combination. The 2025 brochure shows six airbags for both trims and places features such as i-SMART 2.0 and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay on higher trims that include Savvy Pro, but it does not establish a complete, configuration-matched difference between every Select and Savvy Pro version.

What the published comparison actually matches
The first thing to correct is the comparison basis. The cited CarWale page names two specific variants: Savvy Pro Petrol 1.5L Automatic (CVT) and Select Petrol 1.5L Manual. That means a buyer could be comparing both a trim level and a transmission at the same time. Any difference in acceleration feel, traffic convenience, quoted price or fuel-use expectations cannot automatically be attributed to the Savvy Pro or Select badge alone.
| Item | Savvy Pro example | Select example | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine | 1.5L petrol | 1.5L petrol | Both listed examples use the same engine displacement. |
| Displacement | 1498 cc | 1498 cc | Reported specification for the selected configurations. |
| Power | 108 bhp | 108 bhp | Do not treat this as a universal figure for every model year or powertrain. |
| Transmission | Automatic CVT | Manual | This is the most important non-trim difference in the cited pairing. |
| Price basis | On-road estimate for a named city and configuration | On-road estimate for a named city and configuration | Not a national ex-showroom price list; registration, insurance and local charges affect the total. |
For a fair trim decision, first hold the engine and transmission constant. If MG offers both trims with the same gearbox in your model year, compare those two equipment lists. If it does not, label the result as a combined trim-and-powertrain choice rather than a pure trim comparison.

Engine and transmission: what changes on the road
Shared 1.5L petrol specification
The two cited configurations are listed with a 1498 cc, 1.5L petrol engine and 108 bhp. That gives the comparison a common mechanical starting point, but it does not prove that every Astor Select or Savvy Pro sold in every year has identical calibration, emissions equipment or transmission availability. Confirm the engine code and certification details on the quotation for your vehicle.
Savvy Pro with the CVT automatic
A continuously variable transmission (CVT) changes its ratio without fixed stepped gears. In ordinary driving, that can make stop-and-go traffic less tiring because the car manages clutch and gear changes for you. The trade-off is a different response from a manual: engine speed can rise and hold while the CVT selects a ratio, which some drivers experience as less familiar than a conventional gear change. A test drive in your regular traffic conditions is more useful than assuming that the Savvy Pro badge alone determines performance.
Select with the manual gearbox
The manual Select gives the driver direct control over clutch engagement and gear selection. It may suit buyers who enjoy shifting, want predictable control on descents or regularly drive where a manual is preferred. It also requires more work in congested traffic, and the final ownership cost depends on the exact variant, not simply on the word “manual.”

The comparison source reports the same 108 bhp output for its two examples, but it does not provide an independent acceleration test, fuel-economy test or controlled handling result. Therefore, it is accurate to describe the Savvy Pro as the automatic option in this pairing and the Select as the manual option—not to claim that one trim is universally faster, more efficient or better handling.
Features and safety: what is established
Six airbags are shown for both trims in the 2025 brochure excerpt
The 2025 MG Astor brochure excerpt lists six airbags for Select and Savvy Pro. This is a meaningful common safety item, but confirm that the brochure you are reading applies to the exact model year, market and powertrain being sold to you. Equipment can change when a manufacturer updates a model or restructures its variants.
Higher-trim connected and smartphone features
The same brochure places i-SMART 2.0 and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay among features on higher trims that include Savvy Pro. This indicates why Savvy Pro may appeal to buyers who prioritize connected functions and a less cable-dependent phone setup. The excerpt does not establish that every Savvy Pro configuration has every listed feature, nor does it provide a complete Select-versus-Savvy-Pro delta. Ask for the row-by-row equipment table, including optional packs and deleted features.

Build a model-year equipment checklist
Use the current brochure rather than an old review or a salesperson’s memory. Check each item as standard, optional, unavailable or dependent on another configuration:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Airbag count and the positions of the airbags.
- Electronic stability, braking and parking-assistance systems, with the exact names used in the current brochure.
- Infotainment software version, connected services and whether i-SMART 2.0 is fitted to the quoted vehicle.
- Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connection method: wireless, wired or both.
- Camera, sensor and display equipment.
- Seat trim, adjustment, climate controls and rear-seat features.
- Lighting, wheels, exterior trim and any feature bundled only with a particular gearbox.
Do not infer that an item is included because it appears in a brochure column for a related higher trim. Match the exact variant code on the quotation to the brochure row.
Price: compare like with like
The comparison page displays on-road estimates tied to named cities and selected configurations, including Nagpur examples. Those figures combine local registration, insurance, taxes and other charges and can change with the date, insurer, dealer fees and promotions. They are not official national ex-showroom prices.
Current official MG India pricing and a complete current-year Select/Savvy Pro configuration table were not established in the available material, so a single “cheaper” verdict would be misleading. A manual Select may have a lower quoted total in one configuration, while a differently equipped or automatic Savvy Pro can carry a higher total; the gap also changes by city.
Use this quotation format
- Request the exact variant name, engine, transmission and model year in writing.
- Ask for ex-showroom price separately from registration, insurance, handling or accessory charges.
- Obtain both quotations for the same city and the same date.
- Compare insurance coverage and deductible, not just the premium total.
- Check whether discounts are conditional on financing, exchange, corporate eligibility or a limited promotional period.
- Have the dealer confirm the vehicle identification details and manufacturing month before payment.
If you see a price on a comparison site, treat it as a dated shopping reference. Recalculate the total using the dealer’s itemized quote before deciding which trim is cheaper.

Choose Savvy Pro when these priorities matter
- You want a CVT automatic for frequent urban congestion or for a driver who does not want clutch work.
- The current vehicle’s equipment sheet confirms the connected and smartphone features you actually use.
- You are comfortable paying for the automatic and higher-trim specification after comparing same-city, same-date quotes.
- You plan to keep the car for several years and value convenience features every day rather than occasional accessories.
Choose Select when these priorities matter
- You specifically prefer a manual gearbox and enjoy choosing gears yourself.
- The Select’s confirmed safety and comfort equipment meets your needs without the higher-trim additions.
- You are comparing a manual quotation against another manual quotation and want to avoid paying for an automatic you do not need.
- You are willing to connect your phone by cable or forgo features that are limited to higher trims.
Do not decide from the trim name alone
“Savvy Pro” and “Select” identify equipment levels, but the cited examples show that transmission availability is part of the real purchase decision. A buyer who wants Savvy Pro equipment with a manual gearbox—or Select equipment with a CVT—must verify that such a combination is actually offered in the current price list. Do not assume that every trim can be ordered with every powertrain.

A practical, configuration-matched buying process
Step 1: identify the exact car
Write down model year, fuel type, engine displacement, gearbox, seating configuration and any option pack. Keep this line unchanged when requesting quotes from different dealers.
Step 2: obtain the current brochure
Use the latest MG Astor brochure for your market. Historical 2024 material is useful for understanding that the trim and transmission lineup has changed over time, but it should not override the current brochure.
Step 3: mark standard versus optional equipment
Create two columns—Select and Savvy Pro—and add a third column for “confirmed on quoted car.” Fill the third column only from the dealer’s written specification or the vehicle inspection. This prevents a brochure feature from being mistaken for standard equipment on your particular car.
Step 4: drive both transmissions if both are available
Drive the route you actually use, including a slow queue, a normal-speed road and a parking maneuver. In the CVT, pay attention to pedal response and engine-sound behavior. In the manual, assess clutch weight, bite-point consistency and the effort required in traffic. These observations are personal, so they cannot be replaced by the shared 108 bhp figure.
Step 5: compare total ownership obligations
Ask about scheduled service intervals, warranty terms, roadside assistance, tyre size, insurance renewal assumptions and the cost of replacing damaged exterior or infotainment components. The available comparison does not establish a maintenance-cost difference between the trims, so obtain these figures from MG or an authorized dealer rather than guessing.
Step 6: recheck at delivery
Before accepting the car, match the variant name, gearbox, airbags, infotainment functions and visible equipment against the signed quotation. Test smartphone pairing, cameras, sensors and every key supplied. Report discrepancies before registration paperwork is completed.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Mistake: treating an on-road city quote as a national price
Fix: record the city and date, then request an equivalent quote locally. Registration and insurance can move the total substantially.
Mistake: calling a transmission difference a trim difference
Fix: compare CVT with CVT or manual with manual where possible. If the comparison cannot be matched, describe it as a combined equipment-and-powertrain choice.
Mistake: assuming every brochure feature is standard
Fix: verify the current model year and the exact variant code. The 2025 excerpt supports six airbags on both trims and identifies higher-trim connected features, but it is not a complete equipment matrix.
Mistake: using a historical brochure as the current specification
Fix: use older brochures only as background. Confirm the live stock vehicle and current price list with MG or an authorized dealer.
Mistake: buying an ill-fitting cover
An Astor car cover can be a sensible ownership accessory, and a retailer listing identifies compatibility with Astor Select and Savvy Pro variants. Compatibility still needs checking: confirm model year, dimensions, mirror-pocket design, antenna clearance, fastening points and whether the cover is intended for indoor or outdoor use. Verify current stock and fit before ordering; trim names alone do not guarantee that a cover will fit every body or accessory configuration.

Questions to ask the dealer before paying a booking amount
- Is this Astor a Select or Savvy Pro, and what is the exact model year?
- Is the quoted car manual or CVT, and is that gearbox included in the written variant name?
- What is the ex-showroom amount, and what local charges create the on-road total?
- Does this vehicle have six airbags as shown in the current brochure?
- Are i-SMART 2.0 and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay fitted to this exact car, or only available on another configuration?
- Which items are factory-fitted, dealer-fitted or optional?
- What is the manufacturing month, and can I inspect the vehicle before registration?
- What warranty, service and roadside-assistance terms apply to this model year?
Verdict: make the decision on equipment plus gearbox
The evidence supports a clear buying framework, not a universal winner. The named comparison pairs a 108 bhp, 1498 cc petrol Savvy Pro with a CVT and a 108 bhp, 1498 cc petrol Select with a manual gearbox. Savvy Pro is the logical starting point for a buyer who wants the automatic and confirms the higher-trim connected equipment. Select is the better fit for a buyer who prefers a manual and finds its confirmed safety and comfort specification sufficient. Because prices are city-specific on-road estimates and equipment varies by model year and configuration, the final choice should be made only after a current brochure check, a same-basis quotation and a test drive of the exact gearbox you will buy.
