Mercedes-Benz is adding Microsoft Teams and Intune to the new CLA, while Microsoft 365 Copilot remains a planned vehicle feature rather than a confirmed general-release product. The announcement points to a new kind of connected-car endpoint: useful for voice-led collaboration and centrally managed business access, but not a full office on wheels.
- Available or announced first: an enhanced Meetings for Teams app and native Microsoft Intune integration.
- First named vehicle: the new CLA, built on MB.OS and fourth-generation MBUX.
- Planned: Microsoft 365 Copilot integration in future vehicles, with no launch date given in the cited announcement.
What Mercedes and Microsoft actually announced
Mercedes-Benz announced the partnership on July 16, 2025. It combines three separate layers that should not be treated as equally available.
Teams: in-car meetings with an audio-first design
The updated Meetings for Teams app is intended to make selected meeting tasks available through the vehicle’s native interface. Announced functions include:
- Participation in Teams calls using the vehicle’s built-in camera.
- A dashboard for upcoming meetings.
- Calendar-based access to Teams meetings.
- Quick access to frequently used contacts.
- Expanded chat functionality.
- Voice input for composing messages.
This is not conventional laptop-style video conferencing. Mercedes describes an experience built around voice interaction and limited visual information, particularly while the vehicle is moving.

When the camera is activated, Mercedes says the driver’s display automatically stops showing the meeting’s video stream, shared screens, and slides. Other meeting participants may be able to see the driver, but the driver is not given a normal presentation-viewing experience while driving.
Mercedes-Benz’s announcement says camera use while driving is subject to the laws of the relevant country. The camera can also be turned off.
Intune: the enterprise-management layer
Microsoft Intune is more than a sign-in screen. In this integration, Mercedes says Intune is intended to separate private and business data, let IT administrators manage access rights, and apply security policies centrally.
That makes the vehicle another managed endpoint in an organization’s Microsoft environment—at least in concept. Intune activation must be completed by the customer’s IT administration.

Mercedes describes the approach as supporting enterprise-security expectations similar to those applied to company smartphones. That claim should not be mistaken for proof that every existing Intune, conditional-access, compliance, logging, or data-retention policy will work unchanged in the car. Those details require deployment documentation and validation.

Copilot: a stated direction, not a confirmed car feature
Mercedes and Microsoft said they were working toward bringing Microsoft 365 Copilot into vehicles. The potential uses described include preparing for meetings, summarizing emails, retrieving customer information, and managing routine tasks by voice.
The cited vehicle announcement does not provide a launch date, confirmed vehicle list, supported license tier, or automotive pricing. Accordingly, “Copilot in Mercedes cars” is currently too strong a description. The accurate wording is that in-car Copilot integration was announced as a future objective.
Which Mercedes gets the feature first?
The new CLA is the first named vehicle. It is the first production Mercedes-Benz model to use the company’s MB.OS operating system and fourth-generation MBUX infotainment platform.
Mercedes’ CLA technology information identifies the 2025 CLA as the first vehicle with MB.OS. That does not mean every Mercedes equipped with MBUX—or every future vehicle with MB.OS—automatically supports Teams and Intune. Availability depends on the exact model, configuration, market, connectivity, and active services.
The rollout is stated to cover Europe and the United States, but buyers should confirm availability for their country and vehicle specification rather than relying on the regional announcement alone.

What “on the move” means in practice
The important distinction is between transmitting video and watching meeting content.
- The built-in camera can potentially show the driver to other participants while the car is moving, subject to local law.
- When the camera is active, shared screens, slides, and the driver-facing meeting video are removed from the driver’s display.
- Voice controls are intended to reduce manual interaction.
- The driver can switch off the camera.
This is closer to audio-first participation with optional camera transmission than to sitting in a conference room. A driver might join a short check-in, listen to a discussion, or dictate a message. A presentation, negotiation, complex customer call, or meeting requiring close visual attention is a different matter.

Is it safe?
Mercedes has designed restrictions intended to reduce visual distraction, and says the relevant camera function is legally approved in applicable markets. That is not the same as proving that every meeting is safe or appropriate while driving.
Hands-free controls do not eliminate cognitive distraction. A driver may still be listening to a complicated discussion, making a decision, recalling customer information, or composing a precise response. A contentious or urgent call can demand attention even when the screen shows no slides.
The most defensible use case is a short, audio-led check-in with no expectation that the driver will review documents or make complex decisions. Employers should define whether in-motion participation is permitted at all, regardless of what the vehicle technically allows.

Prerequisites and costs that remain unclear
The announcement identifies these requirements:
- A compatible Mercedes-Benz vehicle, initially the new CLA.
- MB.OS and fourth-generation MBUX.
- An active Entertainment Package Plus.
- Available data volume or another supported connectivity arrangement.
- A supported market and vehicle configuration.
- IT activation for the Intune function.
- A compatible Microsoft business account and the required organizational permissions or licensing.
The public announcement does not establish a universal subscription price, the required Microsoft 365 plan, whether personal Microsoft accounts are supported, whether Copilot requires a separate license, or what happens when the vehicle’s data allowance is exhausted. Mercedes identifies Entertainment Package Plus and data volume as prerequisites, but current prices are market-specific and should be confirmed with Mercedes documentation or a dealer.
What IT and fleet teams must verify
The central enterprise question is not whether Teams opens in the dashboard. It is whether the car can be governed like a managed phone or laptop.

- Identity: Which Microsoft sign-in and authentication methods are supported? Is multifactor authentication available?
- Access control: Can administrators revoke access remotely when an employee leaves or changes role?
- Policy support: Which Intune and conditional-access policies work with the vehicle integration?
- Data separation: How are personal and business profiles isolated?
- Offboarding: What removes sign-in tokens, calendar entries, contacts, meeting history, notes, and cached business data when a car is sold, returned, serviced, or reassigned?
- Shared vehicles: How are accounts assigned and removed when several employees or family members use the same car?
- Visibility: What telemetry, logs, location information, or usage data can Mercedes, Microsoft, the employer, and the driver see?
- Support: Which party handles failures involving the vehicle, cellular connection, Teams, Intune, or the company tenant?
- Resilience: What happens when cellular coverage is poor or the embedded data allowance is depleted?
- Legal and privacy requirements: Are camera use, customer-data access, and in-motion meetings permitted in every operating country?
A tenant may also block external meetings, require authentication methods the vehicle does not support, or apply data-loss-prevention rules that need testing. The announcement does not specify which policies are supported, so these are deployment questions—not confirmed product limitations.
Copilot in the car versus Copilot at Mercedes

Mercedes’ March 2026 announcement concerns employees using Copilot in the company’s digital workplace. It is not evidence that a customer can already invoke Copilot from a Mercedes driver’s seat.
Even once available, an automotive Copilot should be treated as an assistant rather than an authoritative system of record. Meeting summaries can be incomplete, customer information can be stale, and voice-generated tasks can be misunderstood. Sensitive business information also raises governance and privacy questions.

How this compares with other mobile-work models
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
Smartphone projection offers broader vehicle compatibility and keeps identity and device management centered on a familiar phone. It is easier to replace or transfer between vehicles, but it is less deeply integrated with Mercedes’ native camera, MB.OS, and vehicle profiles.
A company-managed phone and headset
This remains easier to revoke, replace, audit, and support. It is also more flexible for employees who change vehicles. It does not provide the same native integration with the car’s camera and infotainment controls.
A parked laptop setup
A parked vehicle with a laptop is substantially better for document editing, detailed review, screen sharing, and confidential work. It requires safe parking, but it avoids treating normal office productivity as compatible with driving.
Who benefits—and who should avoid it?
The integration may be useful for field salespeople, service engineers, executives with frequent short calls, and fleet workers who spend significant time between appointments—especially where the organization already uses Microsoft 365 and Intune.

Verdict
Mercedes’ Teams-enabled CLA is an important experiment in native enterprise vehicle software, but it is not yet an office replacement. The credible near-term product is managed, voice-led meeting participation with restricted driver-facing visuals. Intune could make that useful to fleets, provided Mercedes and Microsoft document the identity, policy, privacy, connectivity, and offboarding model clearly. Copilot is promising, but based on the cited announcement it remains a future vehicle integration—not a feature buyers should assume is available today.
