Choose the 2027 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class if your priority is a richly equipped rear cabin, extensive digital comfort features and a lower published U.S. starting price. Choose the Rolls-Royce Ghost if the Ghost design, marque experience and your preferred bespoke specification justify a substantially higher budget. Those are U.S. manufacturer’s suggested retail prices for the 2027 model year. They are not delivered prices and do not automatically include every option, tax, registration charge or dealer fee.
The Ghost figures available for comparison come from different sources and model years. A retailer-hosted 2026 Rolls-Royce Ghost Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price document, with a November 2025 file path, shows a $355,000 base MSRP. The same document shows one configured example totaling $428,650 after options and charges. Cars.com lists a $368,000 starting MSRP for the 2027 Ghost.
Because the Maybach prices are 2027 U.S. figures while one Ghost reference is for 2026 and the other is a comparison-site listing for 2027, do not subtract one number from another and call the result a precise price gap. Ask an authorized local dealer for a written quote on the exact model year, exterior and interior specification, options, destination charge, taxes and registration.

The Maybach’s strongest evidence-based advantage is the amount of rear-cabin equipment Mercedes-Benz identifies in its 2027 U.S. guide. The list includes heated and ventilated power rear seats with massage, rear entertainment displays and controls, four-zone climate control, heat- and noise-insulating glass, soft-close doors, a panoramic roof, AIRMATIC air suspension with intelligent damper control and rear-axle steering.
These features create a clear brief for a chauffeur-oriented buyer: check the rear seat adjustment range, massage programs, screen position, controller placement, door closing effort and climate controls in the actual car. The guide establishes that the equipment is part of the published Maybach package, but you should still confirm whether a particular item is standard, optional or tied to the S 580, S 680, market or production date.

What is not established for the Ghost
The Ghost sources used here provide price and powertrain information but do not provide a comparable current list of standard rear-seat equipment. That means it would be inaccurate to claim that the Ghost has fewer screens, less adjustment or an inferior seating package. The correct process is to inspect the exact Ghost build and ask the dealer to identify every rear-cabin feature, its price and its delivery timing.
If rear passengers routinely work, read or travel long distances, create a checklist before visiting either showroom. Include seat width and legroom in your preferred position, massage and ventilation controls, visibility through the glass, charging points, storage, entertainment operation, door controls and the ability to set independent temperatures. A feature appearing on a brochure is less important than whether the passenger can operate it comfortably from the seat.
Powertrains and market-specific specifications
Mercedes-Maybach S 580 and S 680
Mercedes-Benz’s July 2026 announcement describes a newly engineered electrified V8 for the updated Maybach range and says a V12 is available in the United States and select other markets. In the U.S. and those select markets, it identifies the S 680 as a handcrafted V12 producing 621 horsepower. The U.S. guide lists the S 580 and S 680, but the exact engine, output, driveline and standard equipment must be confirmed on the order sheet for your market.
Do not assume that a Maybach S 680 sold elsewhere has the same engine or output as the U.S. car. Mercedes-Benz Germany’s current Maybach S-Class page presents different local technical data and lists an S 580 price of €205,129.23. That German price is not a U.S. quote, and it should not be converted into a cross-market bargain comparison without accounting for taxes, equipment, currency and delivery rules.
Rolls-Royce Ghost
The 2026 Ghost MSRP document describes a 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V12. It also carries a fuel-economy label showing 12 mpg city and 19 mpg highway. Cars.com lists 14 mpg combined for the 2027 Ghost. These figures come from different references and model years; neither is a controlled comparison test.

When requesting a Ghost quote, ask the dealer to state the engine specification, certified output, transmission and drivetrain for that market and model year. The available Ghost material does not establish a complete current performance specification, standard-equipment list or acceleration comparison against either Maybach.

Maybach MANUFAKTUR
Mercedes-Benz says its MANUFAKTUR program offers Made to Measure personalization, with a palette of more than 150 exterior paints and over 400 interior colors. The company says almost every Maybach S-Class leaves with MANUFAKTUR refinements and typically three personalized elements. Those figures describe the program’s available palette and stated production practice, not a guaranteed number of custom items on your car.
Ask for a written specification that names each paint, leather, trim, stitching, wheel and emblem choice. Confirm whether a color is a standard catalog item, a MANUFAKTUR surcharge or a one-off request, and obtain the expected production and delivery timing before paying a deposit.
Ghost bespoke work
The Ghost MSRP example itemizes bespoke selections including bespoke interior module editing and specific trim and finish choices. It demonstrates that a Ghost can be configured beyond a basic catalog specification, but it does not establish the total size, price or lead time of the Ghost personalization program. Nor do the sources provide a like-for-like accounting against the Maybach’s color counts.
For a fair comparison, prepare one shared brief: exterior color, roof treatment, wheel finish, leather colors, veneers, embroidery, rear-seat controls and any special artwork. Request the incremental price and lead time for each brand. The car whose process better expresses your intended design may be the better luxury purchase even when its base price is higher.

Which car suits each type of buyer?
Choose the Maybach S-Class when rear-cabin function is the priority
- You want published U.S. pricing below the Ghost references.
- You expect frequent rear-seat use and want documented massage, ventilation, rear displays, four-zone climate control and soft-close doors.
- You prefer a large menu of documented colors and finishes through MANUFAKTUR.
- You want to choose between the S 580 and S 680 after confirming the engine available in your market.
This recommendation is about the equipment and pricing that Mercedes-Benz publishes, not a claim that the Maybach rides better or satisfies every passenger more. Spend time in the rear cabin with the seat, screens, doors and climate controls set as you would use them.
Choose the Ghost when the marque and bespoke experience justify the budget
- You specifically want the Ghost’s design language and ownership experience.
- Your preferred Ghost configuration remains compelling after options, taxes and delivery charges are included.
- You value bespoke consultation and materials more than a lower starting MSRP.
- You are comfortable making a decision without treating an unverified equipment comparison as fact.
The Ghost recommendation is therefore preference-based. The available information supports a higher published price reference and a V12 specification, but it does not prove superior comfort, reliability, safety, resale value or owner satisfaction.

Cars.com lists 15 mpg combined for the 2027 Maybach S 680 and 14 mpg combined for the 2027 Ghost. The Ghost MSRP document separately shows 12 city and 19 highway mpg. Because these are labeled figures from different sources, they are best used as a reminder that both cars consume substantial fuel, not as a precise annual-cost calculation.

Your actual fuel bill depends on mileage, traffic, fuel price, idling, weather, tire choice and driving style. Calculate it from your own expected annual miles and the official label for the exact vehicle you order. Do not infer total ownership cost from the mpg figures alone.
Ownership checks that require a local dealer
