The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster pairs a supercharged 5.5-liter AMG V8 with a carbon-fiber structure and rear-wheel drive. Mercedes-Benz quoted 626 hp, 0–100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, and a 332 km/h top speed. For a 2009 example, the available price references are a $500,750 original MSRP and a Kelley Blue Book guide estimate of $302,000 checked October 8, 2026—not a guaranteed sale price.
When did the SLR McLaren Roadster come out?
Mercedes-Benz says the SLR McLaren Roadster launched in September 2007, taking over from the SLR McLaren coupe as the open-top version of the model. The date is the launch timing given in the manufacturer’s press material; it does not mean every Roadster is a 2007 model year.
What are the SLR McLaren Roadster’s specs?
These are Mercedes-Benz’s published figures for the standard Roadster, not results from an independent instrumented test.
| Specification | Published figure |
|---|---|
| Engine | Supercharged 5.5-liter AMG V8 |
| Power | 626 hp (460 kW) at 6,500 rpm |
| Torque | 820 Nm |
| Drivetrain | Rear-wheel drive |
| Seats | Two |
| 0–100 km/h | 3.8 seconds |
| Top speed | 332 km/h |
| Structure | Carbon-fiber monocoque |
The engine sits at the front and drives the rear wheels. Carbon-ceramic brakes and a production-car air brake are among the SLR’s reported engineering features. The Roadster’s roof configuration makes it distinct from the coupe, but the factory performance figures above are the manufacturer’s claims rather than a separate Roadster test result.

How fast is an SLR McLaren Roadster?
Mercedes-Benz claims 0–100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and a maximum speed of 332 km/h for the Roadster. Those are factory-published specifications; the available evidence does not provide an independently measured Roadster acceleration or top-speed result.
What is a 2009 SLR McLaren Roadster worth?
For a 2009 Roadster, the available references give two different kinds of figure:
Rank #2
- 1:64 scaled die-cast car.
- Silver finish.
- 29/125 in the 2016 Matchbox line.
- $500,750: Car and Driver’s 2009 model-year MSRP reference, representing a period new-car price.
- $302,000: Kelley Blue Book’s current starting-value guide estimate for a 2009 SLR McLaren Roadster, checked October 8, 2026. It is a valuation guide, not a verified completed sale or a guaranteed offer.
These figures are not directly comparable: one is an original MSRP reference and the other a current guide estimate. An individual car’s value can vary with condition, mileage, specification, documented history and originality, accident or repair history, provenance, location, and market timing. The available sources do not establish a defensible price range from completed sales, so neither figure should be treated as the universal market price.
What does the review evidence say?
The detailed period road test available for the SLR is Autocar’s 2004 test of the coupe, not the Roadster. The review describes strong straight-line performance and an easy-to-use five-speed automatic, while criticizing brake feel, road noise, cabin space, and steering behavior. Those are the publication’s impressions of the coupe and should not be presented as a direct assessment of how the Roadster drives.

For the Roadster, the safest review-level conclusion is based on what is established: it combines the quoted V8 performance with rear-wheel drive, a carbon-fiber monocoque, carbon-ceramic brakes, and an air brake. No firsthand Roadster drive or independent Roadster instrumented test is established here, so a more specific verdict on its ride, handling, or braking would go beyond the available evidence.
Photos and model-year identification
Cars.com’s SLR McLaren page includes Roadster imagery and year-by-year material that can help identify examples. Before republishing any image, confirm both the rights and the photographed car’s model year and variant; a picture alone is not proof that it depicts a standard Roadster rather than another SLR version.
Rank #4
- AUTHENTIC MATCHBOX MODEL: This die cast model car is an officially licensed Matchbox collectible.
- 1963 MERCEDES BENZ 230 SL: Features a detailed recreation of the iconic 1963 Mercedes Benz 230 SL in a striking blue finish.
- 1:64 SCALE: Precisely crafted at 1:64 scale, making it a great addition to any die cast car collection.
- COLLECTIBLE NUMBERING: Numbered 55/125 in the Matchbox series, ideal for collectors tracking the full lineup.
- DIE CAST CONSTRUCTION: Made from die cast metal for a sturdy, detailed, and authentic-looking miniature vehicle.
What to check when comparing Roadsters
Published specifications describe the model, not the condition of a particular car. When assessing individual examples, compare:
- Model year and exact variant.
- Mileage and documented service history.
- Originality and stated specification.
- Accident, repair, and ownership history.
- Provenance and the geography of the sale.
The sources cited here do not establish SLR-specific service intervals, common failure points, or specialist inspection procedures. Those details should be verified with qualified expertise rather than inferred from the car’s headline specifications.
Best Value
- Kit features a multi-part eight-cylinder engine, a detailed suspension, and a detailed cockpit
- True-to-life chassis with diffuser, realistic front and rear wings, authentic tires, rotating wheels
- Authentic decals for the MP4-25 in the GP versions for Bahrain, Canada and Great Britain
- Illustrated assembly guide
- Requires model glue and paint not included
Standard Roadster figures versus special variants
Do not transfer figures for the 722 GT, 722 S, GT, or Stirling Moss to a standard SLR McLaren Roadster. These are variant-specific names, and the available variant material does not establish their specifications as standard Roadster specifications. The Roadster figures in this article refer to the standard model described by Mercedes-Benz.
The available sources also do not establish a reliable total production number for Roadsters. No production total is stated here.
