Mercedes-Benz is developing a smaller G-Class sibling, widely called the “Little G” in reporting. The electric version is expected first, with a 2027 target reported for its arrival. But it may not be electric-only: February 2026 reports say Mercedes also plans a petrol-hybrid version. Those are reported expectations, not a final Mercedes specification or confirmed showroom date.
When is the Mercedes Little G expected?
Autocar and Autocar India have reported a 2027 target, with the electric model expected to arrive first. Treat that as a forecast rather than a confirmed on-sale date; the cited reports do not establish launch timing by market or a showroom schedule.
The “Little G” or “Mini G” is reporting shorthand for a planned, smaller sibling and prospective entry point to the G-Class range. The final production name has not been established in the cited coverage.
Will it be electric-only, or will there be a hybrid?
The reported plan changed over time. In November 2025, Autocar described the Little G as EV-only. In February 2026, Autocar and Autocar India reported that Mercedes was expected to offer both a full-electric version and a petrol-hybrid, with the EV due first. This is a change in automotive reporting, not confirmation of a final powertrain lineup from Mercedes.

Reported hybrid
Autocar India says the hybrid is expected to use a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol-hybrid powertrain related to the CLA’s. The cited coverage does not establish the Little G’s final output or other hybrid specifications.
Reported electric version
Autocar India reports an expected 85 kWh NMC battery and up to 724 km of claimed WLTP range. These are provisional reported figures, not confirmed Mercedes specifications or independently tested results. Charging time and real-world range are not established in the cited reports.

Will the Little G be a real off-roader?
Mercedes has described a dedicated architecture intended to deliver G-Class-like qualities. Former technology chief Markus Schäfer told Autocar that the “Mini G” needed its own platform, calling it “a completely new development.” He also compared the architecture’s qualities to a “miniature ladder-frame chassis,” while distinguishing it from the full-size G-Class. That does not establish that the Little G uses a conventional ladder frame.
The architecture points to off-road intent, but the reports do not provide confirmed production figures for ground clearance, wading depth, axle articulation or other measures that would let buyers assess its capability. Assumptions that it will use an electric GLC or C-Class platform should likewise not be treated as settled: the cited reporting describes a unique architecture.

How small will it be, and what will it look like?
Spy-photo reporting describes a smaller, blocky vehicle with a three-window profile and a fixed rear spare wheel. Autocar India also reports expected circular lamps and other G-Class cues. Mercedes design chief Gorden Wagener said the smaller model would retain circular lights but give their graphics “a bit more sharpness” and a younger feel. These are descriptions of prototypes and design intent; final production details may differ.
No final body dimensions, seating details or complete production specification appear in the cited coverage. The available information supports describing it as a compact G-Class-style sibling, not assigning it a precise size.

What to make of the Little G reports
The clearest current picture is a smaller G-Class-style vehicle targeted for 2027, with an electric version expected first and a hybrid also reported. Its bespoke architecture and familiar design cues suggest Mercedes wants it to feel like part of the G family, but specific capability, size, price and final powertrain details remain open until Mercedes publishes production specifications.
