The announced first use is conversational navigation and points-of-interest search: drivers can ask for a destination or nearby place in natural language, ask follow-up questions, and receive results through the car’s native interface. Mercedes-Benz named the new CLA as the first vehicle for the feature, with availability initially projected for later in 2025.
What Mercedes-Benz and Google Cloud announced
Mercedes-Benz and Google Cloud announced an expanded partnership on January 13, 2025. The Mercedes-specific deployment puts Google Cloud’s Automotive AI Agent inside the MBUX Virtual Assistant rather than offering a separate app that can be installed in other cars.

The announced experience uses information from Google Maps Platform for navigation and place searches. Mercedes-Benz says Google Maps Platform covers 250 million places worldwide and receives more than 100 million map updates per day; those figures were reported by Mercedes-Benz Group AG in the announcement and are not independently audited measurements. Natural-language destination searches
Instead of naming a business exactly, a driver can describe an intention. Mercedes-Benz’s example is: “Could you guide me to the nearest fine-dining restaurant for a unique culinary experience?” The assistant can use that request to identify a place and present navigation details through the vehicle’s native interface.

Follow-up questions
The conversation is designed to continue after a place is suggested. Example follow-ups include, “Does the restaurant have good reviews?” and “What is the chef’s signature dish?” The announced design retains conversation context, allowing a driver or passenger to refer back to the ongoing exchange rather than starting a new search each time.
Voice interaction in MBUX
Mercedes-Benz describes the feature as voice-driven and personalized. The company’s CEO, Ola Källenius, said the next-generation navigation would let drivers and passengers use voice commands for comprehensive information within seconds. That statement is an executive description of the intended experience, not an independent measurement of response time or answer quality.

Which vehicle gets it first?
The new Mercedes-Benz CLA was named as the first vehicle for the Automotive AI Agent. Mercedes-Benz USA’s July 2025 CLA materials also describe the Google Maps integration and the conversational agent. However, the available announcements do not establish a complete current list of models, countries, trims, or software versions. Availability can therefore depend on the market and vehicle configuration. See the Mercedes-Benz USA CLA description.
The January 2025 announcement said the experience was expected to arrive with the CLA later that year. That was a launch projection, not a guarantee that every CLA delivered afterward has the feature. Buyers should confirm the equipment and software specification for their country and vehicle identification number with Mercedes-Benz.

What “Automotive AI Agent” means here
Google Cloud presents Automotive AI Agent as a customizable platform for automakers. Its platform description covers conversational engagement across areas such as navigation, search, media, communication, and vehicle controls, and says it is designed to support multimodal and multilingual interactions and integration with existing vehicle architectures, Android Automotive OS, and Google built-in applications. Those are capabilities of the broader platform. Mercedes-Benz’s announcement specifically documents navigation and points-of-interest search in MBUX; it does not establish that every platform function is enabled in Mercedes vehicles. The partnership should not be read as a promise of unrestricted control over vehicle systems or universal support for all languages and markets.

How this differs from a consumer AI app
There is no documented standalone Mercedes-Benz Automotive AI Agent app or installation path for an unrelated vehicle. The announced product is an automaker-integrated service delivered through supported Mercedes hardware, software, and markets. Google Cloud is supplying the underlying automotive-agent technology; Mercedes-Benz determines how it is exposed in MBUX.
How to check availability on a CLA
- Confirm the vehicle’s market and exact model year, since the announcement does not provide one global rollout list.
- Review the vehicle’s official equipment and infotainment specification for references to the MBUX Virtual Assistant, Google Maps integration, or conversational navigation.
- Ask a Mercedes-Benz retailer to verify feature activation for the specific vehicle identification number and software version.
- Check the local Mercedes-Benz owner or vehicle documentation for any connectivity, account, language, or regional requirements before relying on the function.

Mercedes-Benz’s partnership with Google Cloud brings a Gemini-based Automotive AI Agent into MBUX, starting with conversational navigation and place discovery on the new CLA.
