For a current electric sedan with published U.S. EPA range figures, the Tesla Model 3 is the clearest documented comparison—but it is not an exact match for the C-Class in size, luxury positioning, performance, or price. The announced 2027 C 400 4MATIC Electric instead stands out for its 800-volt system, 482 horsepower, 94-kWh usable battery, and claimed 330-kW DC charging.
This guide separates confirmed U.S. specifications from manufacturer claims, explains why the C-Class’s 762-kilometer WLTP figure cannot be presented as an EPA estimate, and shows how to choose among electric sedans when the Mercedes arrives.

The electric C-Class at a glance
Mercedes-Benz announced the all-new electric C-Class on April 20, 2026. Mercedes-Benz USA identifies the U.S. launch model as the 2027 C 400 4MATIC Electric and expects it to reach dealerships in the first half of 2027. The company describes it as an electric midsize sedan.
The following figures come from Mercedes-Benz’s published U.S. technical information. They are automaker specifications or estimates, not independent test results.

Mercedes-Benz’s U.S. newsroom announcement supplies the technical table and dimensions. The company’s future-vehicle page also lists the 482-hp output, 94-kWh battery and charging capability.
Equipment that may separate it from mainstream electric sedans
Mercedes-Benz says the C-Class Electric will offer optional AIRMATIC air suspension and rear-axle steering. A 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen is optional, rather than a standard feature identified in the announcement. Available comfort equipment includes massage and ventilated front seats. Mercedes-Benz also lists an available Vegan Society-certified vegan interior and driver-assistance options.
Those features may matter more to a C-Class shopper than a small difference in range. However, the announcement does not establish U.S. pricing, final trim packaging, or which options will be bundled together, so those buying details need confirmation closer to launch.

Tesla’s U.S. Model 3 page is the clearest currently documented alternative in the available U.S. data because it publishes EPA-estimated range for several displayed configurations. Tesla labels the car a “Sport Sedan.” Its 24-cu-ft cargo figure is useful, but the published number is not broken into trunk and frunk volume, so it should not be treated as a like-for-like comparison with the C-Class’s separately stated 16.6-cu-ft trunk and additional frunk storage.
| Displayed Model 3 configuration | EPA-estimated range |
|---|---|
| Standard | 321 miles |
| Premium AWD | 346 miles |
| Premium RWD | 363 miles |
| Performance | 316 miles |
These are manufacturer estimates shown on Tesla’s U.S. Model 3 page, not independent road-test results. Tesla’s displayed configurations and figures can change, so check the live page for the exact trim you are considering.

What the Model 3 does—and does not—tell you
The Model 3 gives a shopper a current U.S. EPA-range reference while the C-Class’s EPA number remains unavailable. Its displayed range spans 316 to 363 miles, depending on configuration. That does not prove that it will travel farther or less far than the Mercedes in real use, because the C-Class has not yet received a published EPA result and Tesla’s figures are estimates under the EPA test procedure.
Nor does the comparison establish equivalence in cabin materials, ride tuning, rear-seat room, sound insulation, dealership support, or pricing. The two cars occupy overlapping sedan territory, but the C-Class is presented as a Mercedes-Benz midsize luxury sedan while Tesla describes the Model 3 as a sport sedan.

Tesla’s page currently lists a four-year/50,000-mile basic warranty and an eight-year battery-and-drive-unit warranty. Mileage limits for the battery and drive-unit coverage vary by configuration. Verify the exact warranty language for the trim and model year before signing a purchase agreement.
Why the C-Class range figure cannot be compared directly yet
Mercedes-Benz quotes up to 762 kilometers using the WLTP procedure. Its U.S. technical table marks EPA electric range as “TBA.” WLTP and EPA testing use different procedures and conditions, so converting the WLTP headline into miles and presenting the result as an EPA estimate would be misleading.
For a valid U.S. comparison, wait for an EPA figure for the C 400 and place it beside the Model 3’s EPA estimate. Until then, the responsible comparison is:

- C-Class: up to 762 km WLTP, with U.S. EPA range not yet stated.
- Model 3: 316–363 miles EPA-estimated across Tesla’s displayed U.S. configurations.
Even after the Mercedes receives an EPA rating, actual highway range will vary with speed, temperature, tires, elevation, payload, climate control and battery state of charge. A single rating is a standardized reference, not a promise for every trip.
Charging: the C-Class has stronger published hardware, but peak power is not the whole experience
C-Class charging claims
The announced C 400 uses an 800-volt electrical architecture, accepts up to 330 kW of DC power, and is listed with a 10%–80% DC session time of 22 minutes under Mercedes-Benz’s stated conditions. It also lists 11.5-kW AC charging for home or destination charging.
A 330-kW peak does not mean every charging stop will deliver 330 kW. The vehicle, charger, battery temperature, state of charge, station capability and the shape of the charging curve all affect the energy added. Mercedes-Benz’s 22-minute figure is a company estimate for a specified 10%–80% window, not an independent test result.
Model 3 charging information
Tesla’s Model 3 page publishes charging information in miles added over 15 minutes under stated assumptions. The relevant value depends on the displayed configuration and the conditions described on Tesla’s page. Because the figures and page configurations can change, use the live Model 3 page when comparing a particular vehicle.
The available information therefore supports a hardware comparison, not a complete charge-stop ranking: Mercedes publishes a maximum kW figure and a 10%–80% estimate, while Tesla presents a miles-added metric over 15 minutes. Those measurements are not the same window or unit.

What to check before relying on public charging
- Whether the routes you drive have compatible high-power stations at the distances you need.
- Whether a station’s advertised power is shared between multiple charging stalls.
- Whether the vehicle reaches its best rate only at a low state of charge and moderate battery temperature.
- How much time you normally spend charging at home versus on long trips.
- Whether your preferred charging network requires an account, payment app or separate membership.
Space, body style and everyday practicality
The C-Class Electric has a 116.6-inch wheelbase and is 192.2 inches long. Mercedes-Benz lists a 16.6-cu-ft trunk plus additional frunk storage. That layout may suit buyers who want a conventional sedan trunk while still having a separate front storage compartment.
Tesla lists 24 cu ft of cargo volume for the Model 3. Because Tesla does not present that number in the cited material as a trunk-only measurement, it cannot be directly subtracted from or added to the Mercedes trunk figure. When you shop, inspect the actual opening, loading height, rear-seat pass-through and underfloor storage rather than relying only on a headline volume.
Questions for families and frequent passengers
- Can a rear-facing child seat fit without forcing the front passenger seat too far forward?
- Do three adults fit across the rear bench for the trips you make?
- Will the trunk opening accept your stroller, instrument case, pet carrier or sports equipment?
- Does the car have a frunk large enough for charging cables and smaller luggage?
- Are ventilated or massage seats available on the exact trim, or only as options?
Performance and drivetrain choices
The U.S. launch C 400 is identified as a 4MATIC model, so all-wheel drive is part of the announced configuration. Mercedes-Benz quotes 482 hp, 590 lb-ft and an estimated 3.9-second 0–60-mph time.
Tesla’s displayed Model 3 lineup includes rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations, as well as a Performance version. The sourced page establishes those configuration names and range estimates, but it does not provide a directly comparable set of acceleration, motor-output or traction figures in the available material. Do not infer that the Model 3 Performance or any other trim is faster, slower, quieter or more luxurious than the C-Class without checking current official specifications and independent testing.
For buyers, the drivetrain decision is practical as well as emotional. All-wheel drive can help with traction on wet or snowy roads, while a rear-drive sedan may use less energy in some configurations and can cost less. Tire choice, winter conditions and your local service options may matter more than a small published power difference.

How to choose an electric sedan while waiting for the Mercedes
Choose the C-Class if its timing and specification fit your plan
- You can wait until the first half of 2027 for the expected U.S. dealership arrival.
- You want a midsize luxury sedan with the announced 482-hp, 800-volt configuration.
- You value the possibility of air suspension, rear-axle steering, premium seat functions and the optional Hyperscreen.
- You are comfortable waiting for the EPA range, final pricing and final equipment list.
Choose a current sedan when immediate availability matters
- You need an electric car now rather than after the Mercedes launch window.
- You want a published U.S. EPA range number for a specific configuration.
- You prefer to evaluate an existing vehicle through a test drive, current warranty documents and local service experience.
- You can accept that a currently available sedan may differ from the C-Class in luxury content, dimensions, charging hardware or drivetrain.
Use a written scorecard instead of a single range number
- Set your market and date: compare U.S. vehicles and record the model year and date checked.
- Match test cycles: put EPA figures beside EPA figures. Keep WLTP values in a separate, clearly labeled context column.
- Measure your routine: estimate daily miles, highway-trip length, winter conditions and passenger load.
- Check charging access: identify your home electrical capacity and the public stations on your regular routes.
- Compare usable space: measure the luggage and rear-seat needs that caused you to reject your last car.
- Confirm equipment: determine whether all-wheel drive, heat-pump equipment, driver assistance, ventilated seats and advanced displays are standard or optional.
- Read the warranty: verify basic, battery and drive-unit terms for the exact trim.
- Price the complete purchase: include destination charges, installation work for home charging, insurance and any local incentives that apply at the time you buy.
Home charging requirements for either type of sedan
The C-Class is listed with 11.5-kW AC charging, making a properly installed Level 2 home charger the logical setup for many owners. A home charger is not automatically compatible with every electric sedan, however. Before buying equipment, verify the vehicle connector, the charger’s connector and power rating, the electrical panel’s capacity, available circuit amperage, cable length, mounting location and local permitting requirements.
Have a qualified electrician assess the installation and follow local code. Ask for a written estimate that distinguishes the charger, wiring, breaker, conduit, permit and labor. If you rent or live in a condominium, obtain property approval before committing to an installation.
Mercedes-Benz also discusses its North American high-power charging network, while Tesla publishes charging information for Model 3. Network coverage and access rules can change, so map the stations you would actually use instead of assuming that a branded network is available on every route.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhat is still unknown about the 2027 C 400
Several purchase-critical details are not established in the published material:
- U.S. EPA range.
- U.S. MSRP, destination charge and final option pricing.
- Final trim walk, standard equipment and option bundles.
- Exact dealer allocation and regional availability within the first-half-of-2027 arrival window.
- Independent acceleration, range, ride and charging results.
- Final warranty wording for the U.S. production vehicle.
Those gaps do not make the C-Class an unusable choice; they define what must be confirmed before placing an order. Treat the current specifications as an announced launch baseline rather than a complete retail contract.
Bottom line for shoppers
The 2027 Mercedes-Benz C 400 4MATIC Electric is a promising future alternative for buyers who want a midsize luxury sedan with 482 hp, an 800-volt system, a 94-kWh usable battery and claimed 330-kW DC charging. Its headline 762-km range is WLTP, while its U.S. EPA result remains TBA, so it cannot yet be ranked fairly against U.S. EPA-rated cars.
The Tesla Model 3 is the most clearly documented current U.S. electric-sedan reference in this comparison, with manufacturer-published EPA estimates from 316 to 363 miles and 24 cu ft of cargo volume. It is not a substitute for every C-Class requirement. Decide first whether you need a car now, then compare verified U.S. range, charging conditions, space, drivetrain, equipment, warranty and local charging access for the exact vehicles and trims you can actually buy.
