The Mercedes-Benz AMG CLS 63 is a high-performance, four-door coupe-style sedan, but its specifications depend on the model year and market. The 2007 CLS 63 used a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8, while later versions adopted a 5.5-liter biturbo V8. For U.S. buyers, Mercedes-Benz listed the 2017 and 2018 CLS 63 S at $108,900 before destination; used-car values are far lower, but vary with condition, mileage and location.
What the Mercedes-AMG CLS 63 is
The CLS 63 combines the low roofline and swooping profile of Mercedes-Benz’s four-door coupe-style CLS with AMG performance. The name covers more than one generation, however, so engine output, drivetrain and equipment should always be tied to a specific model year and market.
In Edmunds’ review, the 2007 CLS63 replaced the CLS55 AMG. That model had a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 rated at 507 hp. Later CLS 63 versions used a 5.5-liter V8 biturbo instead—a major change that makes a single, all-years specification misleading.
Engines, output and drivetrain
2007 CLS 63
Edmunds lists the 2007 CLS63’s 6.2-liter V8 at 507 hp. This figure applies to that model year; it should not be used for later CLS 63 variants. Edmunds’ 2007 review also praises its potent V8 and handling character.

Later 5.5-liter biturbo versions
A Mercedes-Benz Caribbean technical brochure describes the later AMG 5.5-liter V8 biturbo in two outputs. Its standard CLS 63 specification is 410 kW (557 hp) and 720 Nm; the S specification is 430 kW (585 hp) and 800 Nm. The brochure also describes AMG-developed performance 4MATIC for CLS 63 4MATIC and CLS 63 S 4MATIC versions. 2017 and 2018 U.S. CLS 63 S
Mercedes-Benz USA’s reference guides identify the 2017 and 2018 CLS 63 S with a handcrafted AMG 5.5-liter V8 biturbo, AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT seven-speed transmission and AMG performance 4MATIC. What it is like to drive and live with
Edmunds’ 2007 review highlights the car’s styling, V8 power and handling character, while noting that access to the rear seats is awkward, taller passengers may find headroom limited, and the control interface can be complicated. Those observations describe the reviewed 2007 car.

In its 2016 review, Edmunds praises the CLS range’s potent engines, crafted interior, safety and convenience features, ride-and-handling balance and distinctive styling. It also describes the rear seat as limited to two people and notes restricted headroom. The low, coupe-like roofline contributes to the design but comes with practical compromises for rear passengers. Standard features in the 2018 U.S. guide
Mercedes-Benz USA’s 2018 guide lists AIRMATIC, Nappa leather, heated front seats, Active Brake Assist, PRE-SAFE, ATTENTION ASSIST and LED Intelligent Light System as standard features. Equipment can differ by model year and market, so use the specific vehicle’s documentation to confirm what is fitted.
