Transmission, differential and transfer-case service
High torque puts demands on the transmission and driveline. Require invoices showing that the transmission, differential and, where fitted, transfer-case fluids were serviced in line with the applicable model schedule. Do not treat a stamped booklet with no supporting invoices as proof that the work was completed. During the road test, watch for delayed engagement, harsh shifts, shuddering, vibration under load or driveline clunks.
Brakes, suspension and wheels

Modern performance cars contain many control modules, sensors and electrically operated systems. Test every screen, camera, driver-assistance function, climate control, seat adjustment, window, key and charging port. Check for warning lights both before and after the road test. A diagnostic scan should look for stored and pending faults rather than simply confirming that no warning light is illuminated at that moment.

Modifications multiply uncertainty
Tunes, downpipes, aftermarket exhausts, nonstandard wheels and removed emissions equipment can change heat load, calibration, legality, insurance and warranty status. “It is cheap because the market is soft.”
A low asking price can reflect worn tires, near-term brakes, deferred fluids, an expiring warranty or a fault that has not yet triggered a warning light. Compare the inspection and invoice evidence with the price. Do not spend the entire budget on the purchase and leave nothing for the first service.
“The service light is off, so it needs nothing.”
Service indicators do not replace invoices or a diagnostic scan. They may not reveal a pending cooling, turbo, suspension or driveline problem. Have the specialist scan the car before and after the road test.

Traction depends on four matching, suitable tires, correct alignment and functioning drivetrain hardware. Inspect tire age and wear, and confirm the exact system fitted to the VIN. All-wheel drive cannot create grip where the tires have none.
