Mercedes-Benz says two CONCEPT AMG GT XX electric cars covered 40,075 km (24,901 miles) in 7 days, 13 hours, 24 minutes and 7 seconds at the Nardò test track in southern Italy, setting 25 long-distance records. The manufacturer describes the run as a technology demonstration for its forthcoming AMG.EA electric architecture—not a production-car road trip or an independently verified record.
What records did the Mercedes-AMG GT XX set?
Mercedes-Benz reports 25 long-distance or performance records. Its headline result was 40,075 km (24,901 miles), a distance the company equates with Earth’s circumference at the equator, completed in less than eight days. The drive ran from August 16 to 25, 2025, at Nardò in southern Italy, according to Mercedes-Benz’s August 25, 2025 release and its official concept page.
The company also highlights a 24-hour distance of 5,479 km (3,404 miles), which it says exceeded the previous record by 1,518 km, or approximately 38 percent. Both the total of 25 records and the comparison are Mercedes-Benz claims; the official sources cited here do not establish independent certification or provide an independent adjudication document.
How the eight-day endurance run worked
Two cars on a closed high-speed circuit
Two concept vehicles started together and completed 3,177 laps of Nardò’s 12.68-km circuit. This was a test-track endurance effort, not a drive across public roads. Mercedes-Benz says the cars covered more than 5,300 km per day, with ambient temperatures reaching 35°C in the shade.

Speed and charging were planned together
Drivers aimed to hold 300 km/h (186 mph), leaving the track to charge before accelerating back to that speed. Mercedes-Benz says simulations identified this target as the best balance between lap pace and the number of charging stops, minimizing total elapsed time. The company reports around 850 kW average charging power using a prototype high-power charging setup. That figure describes the equipment and conditions of this demonstration, not typical public charging.
Rotating drivers and pit support
Experienced drivers took two-hour shifts while pit crews managed charging and tire changes. Mercedes-Benz also reports round-the-clock fire and rescue coverage and remote diagnostics. Michelin supplied tires, and Alpitronic contributed charging expertise, according to the manufacturer.

What technology was the run meant to demonstrate?
Mercedes-Benz attributes the concept’s performance to three axial-flux motors and a directly cooled high-performance battery. The company says two motors are mounted at the rear, with a front motor available for additional power or traction, and reports peak output above 1,000 kW. It also says the battery uses newly developed cylindrical NCMA cells. These are manufacturer descriptions of concept technology, not independent assessments of its performance or durability.
Mercedes-AMG developed the axial-flux motor technology with YASA, which it identifies as a wholly owned Mercedes-Benz subsidiary. The effort previews the AMG.EA high-performance electric architecture, as described on the Mercedes-Benz UK AMG.EA page.

Is the Mercedes-AMG GT XX a production car?
No. Mercedes-AMG presents the CONCEPT AMG GT XX as a concept and technology program previewing a future four-door series-production sports car. The record-drive results do not establish the eventual production model’s range, charging rate, output, or specifications.
The official concept page says its range figures are preliminary digital simulations. It also says recognized testing, EC type approval and a certificate of conformity have not yet established binding values. Those qualifications matter: a prototype endurance run with specialized support should not be read as a production-car range or public-charging claim.

How to interpret the record claims
The reported figures show what Mercedes-Benz says its concept vehicles achieved in a tightly organized, sustained high-speed test-track program. The cited sources are manufacturer publications and do not identify an independent certifier, so the records should be attributed to Mercedes-Benz rather than described as independently confirmed. Any comparison with another EV endurance effort would also need to account for the time window, distance, number of cars, speed, track or route, charging setup and verification method.
