The Mercedes-AMG CONCEPT GT XX is a technology demonstrator for the coming AMG.EA high-performance architecture, not a production car with customer-available specifications. Mercedes-AMG’s concept pairs three axial-flux motors with more than 1,000 kW of peak output and a directly cooled battery; its charging headlines come from tests using prototype equipment, not an ordinary public charging stop.
What is the Mercedes-AMG GT XX?
Introduced in June 2025, the four-door CONCEPT AMG GT XX previews technologies intended for Mercedes-AMG’s AMG.EA high-performance electric-vehicle architecture. Mercedes-AMG presented it as a technology demonstrator, not as an announced retail model. Its motor, battery and charging figures therefore describe the concept and its demonstration programme, not a production GT XX available to buy. Mercedes-AMG’s concept announcement sets out the original specification.
What do the three axial-flux motors do?
Mercedes-AMG specifies three axial-flux electric motors and more than 1,000 kW of peak output for the concept. Axial-flux describes the motor’s geometry: magnetic flux runs along the motor’s axis, rather than radially across it. Mercedes-Benz identifies YASA, its wholly owned subsidiary, as the original developer of the axial-flux motor principle. The GT XX is an application of that technology in an AMG performance-car programme, rather than evidence that every future AMG electric model will use the same three-motor layout. Mercedes-AMG’s concept details and Mercedes-Benz’s axial-flux motor explanation describe the respective claims.
How fast can the GT XX charge?
The often-cited 850 kW figure is average charging power reported by Mercedes-AMG over a broad part of the charging curve in the concept’s demonstration programme. It is not the vehicle’s peak charging power. Mercedes-AMG also claimed the concept could add energy corresponding to around 400 km of WLTP range in about five minutes; that is a manufacturer claim for this concept and test context, not a general charging-time promise. Mercedes-AMG’s account of the record-drive charging performance reports the average figure.

850 kW average versus 1,041 kW peak
In a separate charging demonstration reported in September 2025, Mercedes-Benz recorded a maximum of 1,041 kW. The test reached 1,000 kW 0.5 seconds after charging began and held 1,000 kW for around two-and-a-half minutes. Those measurements are a peak and a period at a stated power level, respectively; they should not be confused with the earlier claim of more than 850 kW average across a broad portion of the charging curve. Mercedes-Benz’s megawatt-charging announcement describes the later test.
Why a regular public charger cannot be assumed to match it
The megawatt demonstration used a prototype charging station and a specially developed vehicle-charger system. Mercedes-Benz says the liquid-cooled CCS cable carried more than 1,000 amps. The result is therefore not evidence that a typical public CCS charger or cable can deliver comparable power to a production vehicle. The September 2025 announcement said the findings would inform development of a high-performance charger for Mercedes-Benz charging parks, with planned availability from 2026 in Europe and North America; that plan alone does not establish present availability at a particular site.

What did the GT XX endurance programme demonstrate?
Mercedes-Benz reported that the concept covered 5,479 km in 24 hours, exceeding the prior figure by 1,518 km, and completed 40,075 km in 7 days, 13 hours, 24 minutes and 7 seconds. Its account says most of the daily distance during the 2025 programme was driven at 300 km/h. Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Has GT XX technology reached a production car?
Yes, in a limited and specific sense. In 2026, Mercedes-Benz said axial-flux motors were used for the first time in its all-electric series-production vehicles in the new AMG GT 4-Door Coupé, describing the move as a transfer of the GT XX technology programme. That announcement is evidence of a production application of axial-flux motors; it does not make the concept’s three-motor output or prototype charging results specifications of that production car. Consult the market-specific vehicle specification for any production model’s actual output and charging capability. Mercedes-Benz’s 2026 production announcement describes the technology transfer.
