In the United States, the 2027 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet starts $63,700 above the 2027 Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Cabriolet. The Mercedes starts at $85,700, while the Porsche starts at $149,400. Those are manufacturer starting MSRPs before options, taxes, delivery or processing charges, dealer fees, and negotiated transaction prices.
The extra money does not buy a simple horsepower advantage. The CLE 53 publishes 443 hp and standard all-wheel drive, while the base 911 Carrera Cabriolet publishes 388 hp, rear-wheel drive, a 4.1-second 0–60-mph time, and a 181-mph top track speed. Mercedes counters with a longer equipment list centered on all-weather traction, cabin comfort, wind management, and standard technology. Porsche offers the 911 nameplate, a rear-engine sports-car layout, and a broader range of higher-performance Cabriolets, but the available evidence does not assign a dollar value to subjective handling, prestige, resale, or ownership costs.

Price first: the Porsche costs $63,700 more before you add options
The cleanest entry-price comparison is the current US 2027 Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Cabriolet against the current US 2027 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet. Mercedes-Benz USA lists a starting MSRP of $85,700. Porsche USA lists $149,400 for the base Carrera Cabriolet. Subtracting those published figures produces a $63,700 starting-price difference.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThat calculation is useful for framing the decision, but it is not an out-the-door price comparison. Both figures are starting prices. Porsche says its displayed MSRP excludes options, taxes, title and registration, delivery, processing and handling charges, dealer charges, and potential tariffs, and that the dealer sets the actual selling price. Mercedes’ starting figure should likewise be treated as a pre-option, pre-fee MSRP rather than a guaranteed transaction price.

What the gap does—and does not—tell you
The $63,700 is a comparison of entry points, not proof that one car is objectively worth exactly that amount more. A heavily optioned CLE 53 can move substantially above its base price, while a Porsche configured with desirable equipment can also rise quickly. To establish your real premium, build both cars with the seats, driver assistance, wheels, audio, roof and comfort equipment you would actually order, then compare written dealer quotes.
Keep the model years visible. The price comparison uses current 2027 pages, while several detailed Mercedes specifications come from the 2026 Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Cabriolet Quick Reference Guide, dated May 19, 2026. The guide is useful for equipment and reference figures, but it is not a 2027 specification sheet. Confirm that the exact vehicle offered by a dealer carries the same standard equipment and ratings.
Power and acceleration: more Mercedes horsepower, slightly quicker Porsche claim
Mercedes-Benz USA’s current 2027 CLE 53 page lists 443 hp and a 4.2-second 0–60-mph time. Mercedes’ 2026 AMG CLE 53 Cabriolet Quick Reference Guide lists 443 hp, 413 lb-ft of torque, and a 4.4-second estimated 0–60-mph time, improving to 4.2 seconds with the optional RACE START function. Because the pricing page and reference guide cover different model years and quote different conditions, those figures should not be treated as a same-day independent test.

Mercedes describes the powertrain in promotional copy as “Three kinds of boost team up for 443 hp in the AMG CLE 53 Cabriolet’s powerful inline-6.” That is manufacturer language, not an independent assessment. The underlying specification is a turbocharged inline-six with hybrid assist and an electric auxiliary compressor.
Porsche’s current 2027 Carrera Cabriolet page lists 388 hp, 331 lb-ft, a 4.1-second 0–60-mph time, and a 181-mph top track speed. These are Porsche’s manufacturer claims for the base Carrera Cabriolet. The Porsche therefore publishes less horsepower than the Mercedes but a 0.1-second quicker acceleration claim than Mercedes’ current 4.2-second figure.

Why horsepower alone is a poor value test
The Mercedes’ output advantage matters when you want strong passing power and all-weather traction, but acceleration depends on gearing, launch strategy, tires, vehicle mass, drivetrain losses, and test conditions. The Porsche’s slightly quicker published 0–60 time shows why a lower horsepower number does not automatically mean slower performance. Do not attribute the 911’s 3.5-second or 3.0-second figures from higher trims to the base Carrera.
Drivetrain and chassis: all-weather AMG traction versus rear-drive 911 character
Mercedes-AMG CLE 53: standard all-wheel drive
The CLE 53 uses AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. The 2026 Mercedes reference guide also identifies a nine-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT transmission, AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension, and rear-axle steering. Together, those systems target year-round usability as well as quick response: driven wheels can help in wet or cold conditions, rear-wheel steering can reduce turning effort at low speed and aid stability at higher speed, and the adaptive chassis can vary its response.

All-wheel drive is not automatically a guarantee of superior grip in every situation. Tire choice, temperature, road surface and driver inputs still matter. Its value is greatest for shoppers who expect rain, cold weather or frequent year-round use and want the reassurance of four driven wheels.

Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet: rear-wheel drive
The base 2027 Carrera Cabriolet page specifies rear-wheel drive and an automatic transmission. That layout is a meaningful distinction, not a trim-level footnote. A rear-drive 911 places the emphasis on steering feel, throttle balance, and the traditional 911 driving formula, while the CLE 53’s four driven wheels prioritize traction in a wider range of weather.
The available specifications do not establish a measured handling advantage for either car. There is no independent skidpad, braking, lap-time, ride-quality, or steering test here, so any claim that one is definitively more engaging, comfortable, or capable on a particular road would go beyond the verified information.
What comes standard in the CLE 53
The Mercedes value argument is strongest in equipment listed as standard in the 2026 reference guide. The guide identifies:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive
- AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension
- Rear-axle steering
- 19-inch AMG wheels
- 360-degree camera
- Burmester 3D surround sound
- AIRCAP active wind-management system
- AIRSCARF neck heating
- Heated power seats with memory
- 9.6-cubic-foot cargo capacity
That combination explains why the Mercedes can look strong on specification value even though it is a different type of vehicle. The list combines chassis hardware, winter and top-down comfort, parking-camera coverage, premium audio and everyday convenience instead of concentrating only on acceleration.
The same guide lists EPA fuel economy of 19 mpg city, 26 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined for the 2026 model. Those ratings apply to that model year and are not a promise of 2027 results.
Options that can erase part of the Mercedes price advantage
Several desirable CLE 53 features are optional rather than included in the standard-equipment list. The guide identifies 20-inch wheels, performance seats, ventilated seats, massage seats, a head-up display, a driver-assistance package and an AMG Dynamic Plus package as upgrades. If your ideal Mercedes requires several of those items, compare the resulting build price with an equivalently equipped Porsche rather than relying on the two base MSRPs.
A common buying mistake is to count every feature named in a brochure as standard. Ask the dealer for the window sticker or a model-year equipment sheet and mark each item as standard, optional, part of a package or unavailable. This is particularly important for seat ventilation and massage, which can be central to a buyer’s comfort priorities but are not included in the guide’s standard list.

That means the $149,400 starting price should not be interpreted as a $63,700 purchase of a known equipment bundle over the Mercedes. The difference includes the Porsche’s vehicle architecture, brand and model positioning, and whatever standard content Porsche includes, but the published specifications do not quantify those elements or establish their market value.
Get the Porsche build sheet for the exact stock number or configuration you are considering. Confirm whether the car has the options you care about, and price those options on the Mercedes side as well. Comparing a highly equipped Porsche with a base Mercedes—or the reverse—can make the headline gap misleading.
Do not confuse the base Carrera with higher 911 Cabriolets
Porsche’s Cabriolet range extends well beyond the $149,400 Carrera. The current US page lists these 2027 starting prices and manufacturer performance figures:

| 911 Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet | $203,300 | Performance details not stated on the page excerpt used here |
The S, 4S and GTS figures describe higher trims, not the base Carrera used for the $149,400 comparison. A buyer who wants Porsche’s 473-hp or 532-combined-hp versions is considering a substantially more expensive vehicle than the entry 911 Cabriolet. The Carrera 4S adds all-wheel drive, but its $178,400 starting price is not an apples-to-apples substitute for the $149,400 rear-drive Carrera.
Open-air usability: Mercedes supplies verified wind and neck-comfort hardware
Convertible ownership is affected by how usable the car is with the roof down, not just by acceleration. The CLE 53’s standard-equipment evidence includes AIRCAP wind management and AIRSCARF neck heating. Those systems directly address cabin turbulence and cold-weather comfort, and heated memory power seats are also listed.
The available Porsche material does not establish equivalent standard wind-management, neck-heating, seat-memory or heated-seat content for the 2027 Carrera Cabriolet. That is not evidence that the Porsche lacks such features; it means the published Porsche page does not support a direct standard-equipment comparison. Check the exact build sheet before treating any comfort item as included or optional.
During a test drive, operate both cars with the roof up and down. Try highway speeds, crosswinds, low-speed turns and rear-seat access if you intend to carry passengers. This practical check can matter more than a brochure feature count because wind comfort depends on the whole cabin and roof design, not one named system.

Mercedes’ 2026 guide lists 9.6 cubic feet of cargo capacity for the CLE 53 Cabriolet. The extracted Porsche information does not state a directly comparable cargo figure, so no evidence-based conclusion can be made about which trunk holds more luggage.

The CLE 53’s 19/26/22 mpg city/highway/combined EPA ratings are useful for planning fuel costs, but they are 2026 ratings. No corresponding EPA figure was established for the 2027 Carrera Cabriolet in the Porsche material used here. Do not estimate a five-year fuel-cost difference from unmatched model years or assumptions about driving style.
Seating practicality, rear-seat dimensions, roof-operation time and luggage fit also require an inspection or a manufacturer specification sheet for the exact cars being considered. Bring the child seat, golf bag, work case or other item you actually carry. A nominal cargo number cannot tell you whether the opening shape works for your routine.
What the extra Porsche money could mean in real ownership
The available information is strong on published MSRP and manufacturer specifications but does not establish warranty differences, insurance premiums, scheduled-service prices, repair costs, depreciation, resale value, financing rates or dealer discounts. Those variables can materially change the long-term cost of a $63,700 starting-price gap.
It is tempting to assume that a Porsche automatically retains more value or that the Mercedes automatically costs less to maintain. Neither conclusion is demonstrated by the figures above. Insurance companies price vehicles using their own claims and risk models, and service pricing varies by location, dealer and maintenance plan. Obtain current quotes rather than treating reputation as a cost calculation.
Build a genuine cost comparison
- Configure the CLE 53 and Carrera Cabriolet with the equipment you would actually keep: wheels, seats, driver assistance, audio, roof and comfort features.
- Request itemized written quotes from local dealers, including destination or delivery charges, documentation fees, taxes, registration and any dealer-installed accessories.
- Ask each dealer for the applicable new-vehicle warranty terms and recommended maintenance schedule for the exact model year.
- Obtain insurance quotes using the same driver, address, coverage limits, deductibles, annual mileage and garaging assumptions.
- Check financing offers and calculate total interest, not just the monthly payment.
- Drive both cars in the conditions that matter to you, including a rough road, highway cruising, parking maneuvers and roof-down operation.
Only after those steps can you decide whether the Porsche’s additional purchase price fits your priorities. A lower Mercedes transaction price may be decisive for one buyer, while another may value the 911’s rear-drive architecture and model identity enough to accept the premium; the published data cannot make that subjective decision for everyone.

Choose the CLE 53 Cabriolet when these priorities lead
- You want the lower entry price and a larger budget for options or ownership costs.
- All-wheel drive is important for rain, cold weather or year-round use.
- You value standard wind management, neck heating, 360-degree camera coverage, premium audio and memory seats.
- You want more published horsepower than the base Carrera.
- You need a verified 9.6-cubic-foot cargo figure and prefer a comfort-oriented equipment package.
- You want rear-axle steering and adaptive AMG RIDE CONTROL hardware included in the reference guide’s standard list.
Choose the 911 Carrera Cabriolet when these priorities lead
- You specifically want a rear-wheel-drive 911 Cabriolet rather than an all-wheel-drive AMG convertible.
- The Porsche’s 4.1-second manufacturer 0–60-mph claim and 181-mph top track speed matter more than peak horsepower.
- You are prepared to spend at least $149,400 before options and applicable charges.
- You may want to move into the Carrera S, Carrera 4S or GTS Cabriolet range, accepting their higher prices.
- You have evaluated the actual Porsche equipment list and dealer quote rather than assuming the base price includes every desired feature.
Bottom line: the premium buys a different brief, not a simple performance upgrade
The 2027 Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Cabriolet is the rational value starting point: it costs $85,700, publishes 443 hp, includes all-wheel drive and rear-axle steering, and backs its open-air mission with standard AIRCAP, AIRSCARF, a 360-degree camera, Burmester 3D audio, heated memory seats and a 9.6-cubic-foot cargo figure in the 2026 guide.
The 2027 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet starts at $149,400—$63,700 more on the published entry prices—and publishes 388 hp, a 4.1-second 0–60-mph time, rear-wheel drive and a 181-mph top track speed. Its higher price is not justified by a verified horsepower advantage, nor can the published specifications quantify differences in handling feel, prestige, resale, reliability or repair bills.
Configure both cars, obtain itemized dealer quotes, verify the exact standard and optional equipment, and test-drive them before deciding what the Porsche premium is worth to you.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much more does the 2027 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet cost than the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Cabriolet?
The Porsche starts at $149,400 and the Mercedes at $85,700, a $63,700 difference calculated from the two US manufacturer starting MSRPs. Options, taxes, delivery or processing charges, dealer fees and negotiated pricing are extra.
Is the Porsche faster than the CLE 53?
Porsche publishes a 4.1-second 0–60-mph time for the 2027 Carrera Cabriolet. Mercedes lists 4.2 seconds for the current 2027 CLE 53 page; its 2026 guide estimates 4.4 seconds, or 4.2 with optional RACE START. These are manufacturer claims from different model-year materials, not a same-day independent test.
Which car has more horsepower?
The CLE 53 publishes 443 hp. The base Carrera Cabriolet publishes 388 hp. Higher 911 trims have more power, but their prices and performance should not be attributed to the $149,400 base Carrera.
Does the CLE 53 include all-wheel drive?
Yes. The CLE 53 uses AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. The base 2027 Carrera Cabriolet page specifies rear-wheel drive.
What Mercedes equipment is standard?
The 2026 Mercedes reference guide lists 19-inch AMG wheels, AMG RIDE CONTROL, rear-axle steering, a 360-degree camera, Burmester 3D sound, AIRCAP, AIRSCARF, heated memory power seats and 9.6 cubic feet of cargo capacity as standard equipment.
Are ventilated or massage seats standard in the CLE 53?
No standard-equipment claim is established for those features. The 2026 guide identifies ventilated seats and massage seats as optional, along with 20-inch wheels, performance seats, a head-up display, a driver-assistance package and AMG Dynamic Plus.
Does Porsche’s $149,400 MSRP include options and dealer fees?
No. Porsche says its displayed MSRP excludes options, taxes, title and registration, delivery, processing and handling, dealer charges and potential tariffs. Porsche also says the dealer sets the actual selling price.
Which 911 Cabriolet trims cost more than the base Carrera?
The listed 2027 prices are $161,900 for Carrera T, $170,100 for Carrera S, $178,400 for Carrera 4S, $194,900 for Carrera GTS and $203,300 for Carrera 4 GTS. The S, 4S and GTS figures are higher trims, not the base Carrera comparison.
Which car has better cargo space or fuel economy?
The 2026 Mercedes guide lists 9.6 cubic feet of CLE 53 cargo capacity and EPA ratings of 19 city, 26 highway and 22 combined mpg. The Porsche information used here does not provide directly comparable cargo or EPA figures for the 2027 Carrera Cabriolet.
Can published specifications prove that the Porsche is worth $63,700 more?
No. The figures establish starting prices, power, acceleration, drivetrain and selected Mercedes equipment. They do not establish subjective handling, prestige, resale, warranty, insurance, service or repair-cost differences. A configured dealer-quote comparison and test drives are necessary.
The Bottom Line
The CLE 53 delivers the lower price, more published horsepower, standard all-wheel drive and a documented comfort-and-technology package. The 911 Carrera Cabriolet costs $63,700 more at the starting-MSRP level, but publishes a slightly quicker 0–60-mph claim and a 181-mph top speed with rear-wheel drive. The premium buys a different vehicle brief, not a proven across-the-board performance or ownership advantage.
