The NILU is the debut hypercar from Nilu27, the company founded by designer Sasha Selipanov. It pairs a bespoke naturally aspirated V12 with a seven-speed manual, aiming for a direct, analogue driving experience. Nilu27 has called it the world’s most powerful naturally aspirated hypercar, but that remains a company claim: its July 2026 update reported early engine-dyno output above the target, not an independently verified record or a tested production car.
What is the NILU?
Announced in May 2024, the NILU is Nilu27’s first vehicle: a limited-run hypercar conceived around driver involvement rather than an electrified or boosted powertrain. The company says its design draws on historic racing and automotive influences. Founder and CEO Sasha Selipanov described the project as a departure from convention in the launch announcement: “My path in the industry has never been about following rules and sticking to norms.”

The NILU is a development project, not a car for which a completed road test or customer delivery has been reported in the cited updates. Nilu27’s July 2026 release said the engine had fired for the first time and entered early dyno testing; further calibration and integration into a driving prototype were still ahead.

Nilu27 announced a bespoke 6.5-liter V12 with an 80-degree bank angle, developed with New Zealand-based Hartley Engines. The planned transmission is a seven-speed manual. It is a deliberately unusual combination in a hypercar market where turbocharging, hybrid assistance, and automated gearboxes are common, though those comparisons do not by themselves establish how the NILU will perform on the road.

The company’s original 2024 announcement set an aim of more than 1,000 hp. In its July 2026 update, Nilu27 said the engine had first fired on June 17, 2026, and that initial dyno testing exceeded a 1,070 hp target while reaching 11,000 rpm. The company said calibration and further refinement remained planned. These are manufacturer-reported engine-development figures, not independent measurements of a finished car’s output.
Is the NILU really the world’s most powerful naturally aspirated hypercar?
Not as an independently established record on the available evidence. Nilu27 described the NILU in May 2024 as aiming to be the world’s most powerful naturally aspirated hypercar. Its later report that early dyno output exceeded the 1,070 hp target advances the company’s case, but does not define a comparison set or provide independent verification of a world record.
A meaningful comparison would need to use the same basis across cars: naturally aspirated powertrains versus boosted or electrified ones, manufacturer claims versus independently measured output, and development targets versus production specifications. The July 2026 dyno account concerns an engine under development, not an independently tested production vehicle.
Will the NILU be street legal?
Nilu27 announced a street-homologated version in development, but the cited company updates do not confirm that it has received approval or that customer cars have been delivered. The announcement described a separate planned run of 54 street-homologated cars, including four one-off designs; that is a production plan, not a confirmed completed run.

Nilu27 announced an initial 15-unit run in 2024. It also outlined the separate 54-car street-homologated run. Both figures are announced plans, not verified production or delivery totals.
The company said initial prototype vehicles and the first batch of customer cars would be assembled by Aria Group in Irvine, California, while Nilu27 ramped up its own overseas facilities. In July 2026, Nilu27 said the engine would undergo further testing and calibration in New Zealand before planned shipment to the company’s facilities in Lahr, Germany, for installation in its first driving prototype. That update did not confirm the prototype’s completion, homologation, production, or customer deliveries.
What hardware has Nilu27 announced?
The 2024 announcement specified double-wishbone pushrod suspension, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, and Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes. These are announced component choices, not evidence of independently tested handling, braking distances, or durability.

The cited announcements do not establish a price or customer delivery schedule. Nilu27 and Hartley Engines said in July 2026 that they were finalizing a joint venture to develop and produce similar engines for third-party clients, but the announcement gave no program terms or consumer purchase route. Nilu27 also said the car would appear in CSR Racing 2; that is a planned digital-game appearance, not an indication of physical availability.
