The Lotus Exige Cup 430 was presented as the most extreme Exige yet because it combined a supercharged 430-hp V6 with substantial aerodynamic load, a low stated mass, and adjustable hardware aimed at both road and track use. Lotus launched it as a full-production model in November 2017. Its headline performance figures are manufacturer claims, not independent test results.
What made the Lotus Exige Cup 430 the most extreme Exige?
Lotus introduced the road-going Exige in 2000. The Cup 430 arrived in November 2017 as a full-production model, and the launch material called it the “most extreme Exige ever conceived.” That was Lotus’s description of the car at launch, not a measured ranking against every Exige or rival sports car.
The claim rested on a combination of power, aerodynamic load, low mass and track-focused equipment. Lotus’s 2017 launch document listed 430 hp, 440 Nm of torque, a dry weight from 1,056 kg and 220 kg of downforce. It also claimed 407 hp per tonne. Those specifications describe the original launch car as Lotus presented it.
How fast is the Lotus Exige Cup 430?
For the 2017 launch car, Lotus claimed a 0–60 mph time of 3.2 seconds. The launch document did not give a top-speed figure in the specifications cited here, so a top speed should not be inferred from the acceleration claim.

- This 1:8 static collector's edition, measuring just 53.8cm, is a stunning replica of the Lotus Exige Cup 430, meticulously crafted to a strict 1:8 scale. The 53.8×23.8×16.9cm body features a high-density assembly structure, finished in a dark green metallic with a carbon fiber texture, and is designed for static display.
- Comprising 3,730 high-precision parts and a stable, purely static structure, this 3,730-piece static edition set (model C61511W) is designed for collectors aged 14 and above. All components are assembled using a fixed process, and the seamless bodywork ensures zero loosening or deformation for long-term display.
- Authentic UK-61511 logos and detailed details capture the racing moment. The precisely reproduced bodywork features hood vents, red brake calipers, and a fixed rear wing that are permanently angled to perfectly evoke the finishing touch.
- The pure white background highlights its museum-quality appearance. Against this backdrop, the 53.8cm long bodywork contrasts sharply with the black kit, and the Union Jack logo on the rear wing becomes a focal point, making it ideal for high-end display cases.
- The optimized, non-powered structure enhances display stability, eliminating the need for movable components. The wheels are integrally formed with the bodywork, and the reinforced chassis prevents deformation due to loose parts, ensuring a pristine display experience for ten years.
Lotus’s later Exige Cup 430 Final Edition page also lists 3.2 seconds to 60 mph, but gives a top speed of 174 mph (280 km/h). These are Final Edition specifications, not a replacement for the launch document’s figures. The source material does not explain all differences in measurement basis or calibration.
2017 launch car and Final Edition: Lotus’s figures
The figures belong to two different Lotus documents and versions. In particular, the 2017 release gives a dry-weight figure “from” 1,056 kg, while the Final Edition page states an unladen weight of 1,110 kg. Keep those labels attached to the numbers rather than treating them as directly interchangeable.

How the Cup 430’s engine and aerodynamics supported its track focus
Lotus describes the Cup 430’s engine as a charge-cooled, 3.5-litre supercharged V6, with a bespoke installation developed for the Exige. The Final Edition specification also identifies a baffled sump, bonded-aluminium chassis, unique rear subframe and forged-aluminium double-wishbone rear suspension.

For the Final Edition, Lotus lists a carbon-fibre aerodynamic package and breaks its stated 171 kg of downforce into 76 kg at the front and 95 kg at the rear. Lotus also says the Final Edition makes as much downforce at 100 mph as the Exige Sport 390 does at 170 mph. That is the manufacturer’s comparison, not a general independent aerodynamic finding; it should not be confused with the 2017 launch car’s separate 220 kg claim.
What road-and-track equipment did Lotus specify?
The Final Edition page gives a clearer inventory of the car’s adjustable chassis, braking and tyre equipment. Together, these parts show how Lotus configured the Cup 430 for circuit use without establishing that it is unsuitable for public roads.

Lotus places the Exige’s road-going introduction in 2000 and identifies the Cup 430 Final Edition with the model’s final production year. The 2017 launch release, by contrast, calls the original Cup 430 a full-production model. The Cup 430’s specific engine and equipment should not be assumed to describe every Exige generation.
