What is the Doohan iTank?
The iTank is an electric three-wheeler built around a two-front-wheel layout. When TechCrunch covered its Kickstarter launch on August 11, 2016, it described the vehicle as intended for neighborhood cruising and places such as marinas, RV sites and golf courses—not serious off-road riding. Founder Kartik Ram framed it as a middle ground between a two-wheeler and a car or golf cart. TechCrunch quoted him saying, “It’s not a scooter, and it’s not a motorcycle,” and, “I believe this is the architecture of the future.” Those remarks express the founder’s rationale and prediction, not proof of later widespread adoption or an independently established safety advantage. TechCrunch’s 2016 launch coverage also reported that the campaign began that week.
Why do published iTank specifications differ?
Listings describe materially different configurations. SSR Motorsports lists one iTank setup, while Berylline’s Tour listing describes a more powerful version with different speed, range and weight figures. The figures below belong to their respective listings; they should not be blended into a single spec sheet.

SSR cautions that actual speed and range vary with riding style, maintenance, weather, road conditions, tire pressure, accessories, cargo, and rider or passenger weight. Berylline’s 60-mile figure has a specific qualification: ideal conditions and a 25 mph top-speed limit. Neither number should be treated as a guaranteed everyday range. What did the 2016 launch coverage report?
TechCrunch reported launch-era figures of 0–28 mph in 4.6 seconds, a six-hour full charge, and 62 miles of official range. It also reported founder Kartik Ram’s claim of 100 miles, noting a discrepancy with the official-range figure. Those are claims reported in 2016, not current specifications verified across today’s iTank versions. The same article cited a $4,000 early-bird Kickstarter price and a $5,500 Amazon purchase-order price; they are historical launch-era figures, not present-day prices or evidence of current marketplace availability. What to verify before considering an iTank
Because the available listings differ, identify the exact model and market before comparing it with another scooter or assessing whether it fits your needs. Check the seller or dealer’s current documentation for:

- Version and jurisdiction: Confirm the model name, configuration and sales market; do not assume a Tour listing describes every iTank.
- Speed and range conditions: Ask which speed limit and test conditions apply to the range estimate.
- Battery details: Confirm battery count, capacity, whether it can be removed, and replacement compatibility for that exact version. The listings do not establish cross-version compatibility.
- Weight and carrying limit: Compare vehicle weight and maximum load with your intended cargo and passengers.
- Support and ownership terms: Confirm warranty coverage, local service, replacement-part availability and the current price. An owner’s manual is available from SSR, but that alone does not establish local support or part availability. SSR’s listing and owner-manual link are a starting point.
- Local requirements: Check the rules that apply where you would ride. The specifications here do not establish legal classification, licensing or insurance requirements for any particular jurisdiction.
Does the iTank have a proven safety advantage?
The two-front-wheel layout is a defining design feature, but the available sources do not establish that the iTank is safer than a two-wheel scooter. The founder’s view that two wheels may feel too risky for some riders is a design rationale, not an independent safety finding. Evaluate any safety claims as seller or founder statements unless supported by relevant testing or an authoritative source for the specific model and market.

TechCrunch reported in 2016 that Amazon had placed an order, but that historical report does not verify a current Amazon listing, stock, seller or model variant. Check the exact listing and market before relying on marketplace availability. Likewise, although Berylline’s Tour page describes luggage cases and SSR specifies a battery for its listing, the available information does not confirm current stock or compatibility for replacement batteries and accessories across iTank versions.
