How much horsepower does the McLaren W1 have?
McLaren lists the W1 at 1,275 PS, equivalent to 1,258 bhp, and 1,340 Nm (988 lb-ft) of torque. Its official specification also gives a power-to-weight ratio of 911 PS per tonne and a dry-lightest weight of 1,399 kg (3,084 lb). That weight is a dry figure, not a curb-weight claim. How does the W1 hybrid powertrain work?
The W1 combines a new MHP-8 90-degree, 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 with an all-new High-Performance Hybrid Powertrain. McLaren describes the system as pairing the engine with a lighter E-module and F1-derived battery technology. Power goes to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission with an integrated E-Differential; the specification also lists E-Reverse.
It is a hybrid, but not one intended for meaningful electric-only journeys. McLaren lists electric range as less than 2 km (less than 1.6 miles), so the electric system is best understood in the context of the car’s performance powertrain rather than as long-distance electric driving capability.

How fast is the McLaren W1?
McLaren publishes the following performance and braking figures. They are manufacturer claims, not independent instrumented results.

The car is longitudinal mid-engined and rear-wheel drive. Those figures sit alongside a high-output powertrain and a chassis designed around driver control; they should not be read as results from a published third-party test.

What is distinctive about the W1’s aerodynamics and chassis?
McLaren describes the W1 as a ground-effect car. In Race mode, its active aero system includes an active front splitter and an Active Long Tail that extends rearward by 300 mm. McLaren says the system produces 1,000 kg of downforce in that configuration—five times the road configuration. This is the manufacturer’s stated figure for Race mode, not an independently measured result.
The listed chassis hardware includes Race Active Chassis Control III, active heave suspension, adaptive damping, front and rear aluminium double wishbones, and carbon-ceramic brakes. The structure is a carbon-fibre Aerocell monocoque with an integrated-seat layout. McLaren also describes InnoKnit as a seamlessly integrated lightweight material that can incorporate lighting and sound components beneath one surface; these are manufacturer product descriptions.

How many McLaren W1s will be made, and when do deliveries start?
McLaren Holdings Limited’s Q3 2024 interim report said: “Just 399 customer cars will be produced, with all already customer allocated.” The report forecast deliveries to commence in 2026. Where does the W1 fit in McLaren’s history?
McLaren revealed the W1 on 6 October 2024 and presents it as the next car in its “1” lineage, following the F1 and P1. McLaren Holdings’ Q3 2024 report likewise calls it a successor to those two cars. Its limited planned customer production and hybrid V8 layout mark the W1 as a new interpretation of that flagship series, rather than an electric-only successor.
