McLaren made 25 Solus GTs, and the example offered at RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2026 auction has sold for $2,315,000. The 2025 car was serial 20 of 25. Its sale price was below its listing-stated, optioned MSRP of more than $3 million—and it is a track-only machine, not a road-legal McLaren.
From virtual racing concept to limited-run track car
McLaren describes the Solus GT as a radical concept originally designed for virtual racing, later realized as a special commission for 25 customers. RM Sotheby’s says the concept first appeared in the 2017 game Gran Turismo Sport; that specific origin detail is the auction house’s account.
The production car preserves the concept’s unusual layout: one central seat, a sliding glass canopy as the only cabin access, and shrouded wheel pods. McLaren says aerodynamic testing shaped the bodywork. The result is a single-seat track car rather than a road-going supercar.
McLaren Automotive CEO Michael Leiters, in a quote reproduced by McLaren Chicago’s model guide, described it as “The Solus GT is the realization of a radical McLaren concept vehicle originally created only for the world of virtual racing…it epitomizes the art of the possible.” McLaren Chicago’s Solus GT Model Guide

What McLaren says the Solus GT can do
McLaren’s official product page specifies a naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 that revs beyond 10,000 rpm and produces more than 840 PS (829 bhp), with 650 Nm of torque. The manufacturer lists a mass below 1,000 kg, a 0–100 km/h time of 2.5 seconds, and 1,200 kg of downforce at 150 mph. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. RM Sotheby’s describes the auction car with a slightly different set of figures: 829 hp, just over 2,200 pounds, roughly 2.5 seconds from 0–60 mph, and a top speed exceeding 200 mph. Those numbers are the auction listing’s description, not a separate independent measurement. The listing also describes a seven-speed sequential gearbox with straight-cut racing gears, a carbon-fibre clutch, and an engine structurally mounted to the carbon-fibre monocoque. The Monterey car: serial 20 of 25
RM Sotheby’s identifies the 2025 car as chassis SBMBC8AT7PW000020, serial 20/25, offered from The Driver’s Philosophy Collection. Its exposed carbon fibre and green accents gave this example a distinctive specification. The listing also says the lot included a factory-issued scale model and professional racing travel cases.
RM Sotheby’s records the Monterey 2026 result as sold for $2,315,000 USD. The same listing says extensive options took this car’s suggested retail price above $3 million. That MSRP is not the auction result: the realized sale price was $2.315 million.

Why it cannot be driven on public roads in the United States
McLaren says the Solus GT does not adhere to road or racing regulations. For this specific US auction example, RM Sotheby’s states that it was on a temporary import bond and, under the EPA Racing Vehicle Exclusion, cannot be registered, licensed for use on, or operated on public roads or highways. The listing says the buyer’s information is provided to the EPA and that the exclusion transfers under the described process. These are US-specific terms for this lot, not a universal statement of the law in every country.
