What is the Mazda Vision X-Coupe?
Mazda revealed the MAZDA VISION X-COUPE at the Japan Mobility Show on 29 October 2025, alongside the VISION X-COMPACT. The company presented both as vision models under the exhibition theme “The Joy of Driving Fuels a Sustainable Tomorrow.” Although the assigned title calls it a sedan, Mazda’s own term is “crossover coupe.”
The reveal does not announce a production version, retail price or launch date. In other words, the available official information establishes a concept vehicle and its stated specifications, not a model buyers can order.
How does its rotary plug-in hybrid system work?
Mazda says the powertrain combines a two-rotor rotary turbo engine with a motor and battery in a plug-in hybrid system. CEO Masahiro Moro described that configuration in Mazda’s Japan Mobility Show speech. The cited release does not specify the engine’s displacement or explain precisely how the engine mechanically drives the wheels, so those details should not be inferred from the rotary designation.

The Japanese show page also mentions a CO₂ capture device. Mazda’s launch materials describe the concept system and its components, but do not provide independently verified road-test results.
What are the Vision X-Coupe’s stated power and range figures?
Mazda’s 2025 concept specifications give the Vision X-Coupe a maximum output of 510 PS. Mazda also states a motor-only range of 160 km and a combined engine-and-motor range of up to 800 km. These are Mazda-published figures for the vision model; the cited materials do not state consumer-cycle test conditions or independent measurements. PS is retained here as Mazda reports it.

What does Mazda claim about carbon reduction?
Mazda says the concept combines microalgae-derived carbon-neutral fuel with Mazda Mobile Carbon Capture to reduce atmospheric CO₂ as the vehicle is driven. That is the company’s stated environmental claim. The cited Mazda materials do not establish a measured lifecycle carbon balance or independent validation that the vehicle achieves net-negative emissions in real-world use.

Why is Mazda developing rotary technology again?
Mazda’s rotary-engine history helps explain why the Vision X-Coupe uses the technology, but it does not amount to a production promise for this car. In a Mazda feature published in 2025, CTO Ryuichi Umeshita said rotary mass production ended in 2012 and that Mazda restarted a new rotary-engine project team in early 2024. The feature describes development of rotary technology for generator use and says Mazda installed the concept powertrain in the Vision X-Coupe.
The timeline therefore concerns Mazda’s ongoing rotary development. It does not establish that the Vision X-Coupe itself will enter production.
