For most daily drivers, the Porsche Macan is the better-balanced choice. It costs substantially less to enter, uses slightly less fuel in comparable base versions, and has the more communicative steering and polished road manners that make commuting enjoyable. The Maserati Grecale is the more distinctive alternative: it offers a longer wheelbase, a stronger engine in the cited MY25 configuration, Italian styling and a cabin that feels less common. Your best choice depends on whether everyday value and driving precision or exclusivity and character matter more.
What this comparison covers
This comparison uses the 2026 gasoline Porsche Macan range, Maserati’s MY25 Grecale specifications where those are the published figures, and Maserati North America’s February 3, 2026 announcement of the Modena V6. Model year, engine and market matter: a Grecale listed in a 2026 inventory search may not match the MY25 version, and fuel-economy or cargo figures can use different testing conventions. Confirm the exact vehicle identification number, equipment list and local pricing before signing a purchase contract.

Both SUVs use all-wheel drive and combine a raised seating position with sports-car ambitions. The Macan emphasizes chassis balance and predictable controls. The Grecale emphasizes visual drama, a longer body and a more overtly special cabin. Neither is a simple “right” answer for every household.

Price and value: the Macan starts far lower
Porsche’s U.S. configurator lists the 2026 base Macan at $65,400 before destination, taxes, registration, dealer charges and options. Maserati’s MY25 model page lists a Grecale starting price of $77,900, while current comparison listings place a 2026 Grecale at approximately $84,500 to $86,495 before options and fees. Those figures are not the same model-year or source convention, so treat the Grecale range as an indication of current market positioning rather than a guaranteed transaction price.

The base Macan therefore leaves more room in the budget for a down payment, insurance, winter tires or selected options. Porsche’s option structure can narrow the gap quickly, especially when buyers add appearance packages, upgraded seats, driver-assistance equipment and larger wheels. The Grecale’s higher starting position also varies with inventory, incentives and regional dealer pricing. Compare window stickers rather than advertised base numbers: standard equipment, destination fees and dealer-installed accessories can change the effective difference by thousands of dollars.
Performance and driving feel
Base-engine acceleration
The cited MY25 Grecale specification uses a 325-hp engine, 332 lb-ft of torque, all-wheel drive and a claimed 0–60 mph time of 5.0 seconds. Porsche’s 2026 base Macan produces 261 hp and reaches 60 mph in 6.0 seconds. On paper, the Grecale gives a daily driver a stronger base powertrain and a one-second acceleration advantage.
That advantage is most noticeable when merging onto a motorway or passing on a two-lane road. It does not automatically make the Grecale the more satisfying vehicle, because throttle calibration, transmission behavior, steering weighting and body control determine how effortless the power feels in traffic.
Higher-performance versions
The Macan S raises output to 375 hp and cuts the claimed 0–60 mph time to 4.6 seconds. The 2026 Macan GTS starts at $94,200 in the cited configurator, positioning it above the base Grecale and closer to the performance end of the segment.
Maserati announced a Grecale Modena V6 for North America on February 3, 2026. It uses a 3.0-liter twin-turbo Nettuno V6 with 385 hp and 368 lb-ft, reaches 60 mph in 5.0 seconds, has a 160-mph top speed and retains all-wheel drive. Maserati says cylinder deactivation can reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 6 percent during relaxed driving. That is a manufacturer claim under specified operating conditions, not a guarantee in every commute.

Because the range spans four-cylinder and V6 Grecales and several Macan trims, a base-versus-base conclusion does not describe the entire lineup. A buyer comparing a Grecale Modena V6 with a Macan S or GTS should drive both at the same time and compare the actual equipment and prices.
Steering, handling and ride
Independent road testing characterizes the Grecale as athletic and fairly neutral, but says the Macan provides more driving pleasure. Another 2026 review describes the Maserati’s steering as numb in comparison with the Porsche. In practical terms, the Macan gives clearer information about front-tire grip and makes it easier to place the SUV on a winding road or a narrow ramp. The Grecale can still corner quickly and securely; its controls simply communicate less of what the tires are doing.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFor a daily commute, the Macan’s advantage is not just cornering speed. Predictable steering, progressive braking and controlled body motions reduce the small corrections that make a vehicle tiring in stop-and-go traffic or on uneven highways. The Grecale’s appeal is different: its responses feel energetic without requiring a track-day setting, and its character is more unusual than the many familiar German SUVs in this price class.
Maserati describes the Grecale as offering a sporty yet comfortable ride. The MY25 lineup lists premium leather 12-way power seats and wood trim as standard on the displayed version. A test drive over broken pavement, expansion joints and a long highway stretch remains essential because wheel size, adaptive dampers and seat choice can alter ride comfort substantially.
Fuel economy and daily running costs
TrueCar’s current comparison data gives the base Macan 19 mpg city and 25 mpg highway, versus 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway for the Grecale. The Porsche therefore has a one-mpg city advantage while matching the Grecale’s highway figure in that comparison.

A separate review of a Grecale turbo-four reports 22 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. That result cannot be applied to every Grecale: engine, model year, wheel-and-tire package, drive cycle and market certification all affect the rating. Check the window sticker for the exact engine you are buying, and use the same test standard when comparing vehicles.
The Modena V6’s cylinder-deactivation system is intended to save fuel and emissions during light-load driving, but Maserati’s “up to 6 percent” statement is not an EPA combined rating. Real consumption will depend on traffic, temperature, tire pressure, cargo, speed and how often the engine operates under relaxed conditions.
Comfort, cabin design and highway refinement
Grecale: distinctive and spacious-feeling
The Grecale’s longer 114-inch wheelbase and 190.9-inch overall length help create a relaxed rear-seat environment. Maserati’s presentation is intentionally expressive, with premium leather seating and available wood trim giving the cabin a more boutique feel than a typical configurator-built SUV. The design is a major reason to choose it: neighbors are less likely to mistake it for another common premium crossover.
Longer dimensions do not guarantee more usable room in every seating position. Sit behind your normal driving position, check knee and toe clearance, and place a child seat on both outboard positions if your household uses one. Inspect door opening width and the height of the cargo floor as well as published volume.
Macan: controlled and easy to operate
The Macan’s cabin is organized around the driver and generally feels cohesive at speed. Its steering and chassis polish are the strongest reasons it works so well as a daily vehicle: the SUV can feel calm on a highway and precise on a back road without demanding special effort from the driver.

Equipment depends heavily on the selected trim and options. A base Macan can look very different from an S or GTS with upgraded seats, wheels and interior materials. Compare two actual build sheets rather than assuming that a higher price automatically includes every comfort feature you want.
Space, cargo measurements and towing
Maserati quotes 20 cubic feet of Grecale cargo space. Porsche technical data lists 16.2 cubic feet of closed luggage volume and 53.1 cubic feet with the rear seats folded; another MY26 Porsche table lists 17.9 cubic feet with the seats up. These Porsche numbers use different labels or measurement conventions, so they should not be treated as a perfectly matched laboratory comparison.
| Measure | Maserati Grecale | Porsche Macan |
|---|---|---|
| Seats-up cargo | 20 cubic feet (Maserati MY25 specification) | 16.2 cubic feet closed luggage volume; 17.9 cubic feet in another MY26 table |
| Seats-folded cargo | Not stated in the cited Grecale material | 53.1 cubic feet |
| Wheelbase | 114 inches | 110.5 inches |
| Braked towing capacity | Not stated in the cited Grecale material | 4,409 pounds |
The Grecale’s published seats-up figure suggests an advantage for routine grocery runs, luggage or a stroller, but the absence of a directly matched seats-folded measurement limits a definitive cargo winner. Bring the items you actually carry: a folded stroller, golf bag, pet crate or large suitcase can expose differences that a single volume number misses. Check whether the rear-seat split, load floor height and tailgate opening suit your routine.
Porsche publishes a 4,409-pound braked towing capacity for the Macan in the cited technical data. A comparable Grecale towing figure is not established in the available specifications, so do not assume that its engine output translates into the same trailer rating. Obtain the exact tow rating, hitch requirements and tongue-weight limit for the VIN and market.

Warranty, service and ownership support
Porsche listings show a 48-month new-car warranty for the Macan. Maserati describes an available extended warranty lasting up to five years with no mileage limit. Those are not directly equivalent promises: one is presented as a standard new-car term, while the other is an optional extended product. Ask the dealer for the written basic, powertrain, corrosion, roadside-assistance and maintenance coverage that applies to your exact vehicle.

Neither the cited material establishes a reliability, depreciation or maintenance-cost winner. Service convenience may matter more than a small specification advantage. Before buying, identify the nearest authorized workshop, confirm appointment lead times, ask which routine services are included, and obtain labor rates and parts-availability information in writing. A vehicle that is brilliant to drive but difficult to support locally can become frustrating during a warranty repair.
Which SUV fits your daily-driving priorities?
Choose the Macan if you want the most balanced commuter
- You prioritize steering clarity, predictable road manners and polished highway behavior.
- You want the lowest published entry price among the compared base models.
- You prefer a small city-fuel-economy advantage in the cited base-model data.
- You need a published braked-towing figure and value Porsche’s documented 53.1-cubic-foot folded-seat volume.
- You have local authorized service that can support the warranty and maintenance schedule.
Choose the Grecale if character and presentation matter more
- You want a rarer-looking SUV with Italian styling and a more theatrical cabin.
- You value the longer 114-inch wheelbase and the possibility of more comfortable rear-seat proportions.
- You want the stronger 325-hp base configuration cited for the MY25 lineup.
- You prefer the Grecale’s available leather 12-way seats and wood trim as part of its standard MY25 presentation.
- You accept a higher current asking price in exchange for distinctiveness, provided local support is satisfactory.
Compare performance trims rather than badges
Performance-focused buyers should cross-shop the Macan S or GTS against the Grecale Modena V6 or another specific Grecale trim. The Macan S’s 375 hp and 4.6-second claim make it a different proposition from the 261-hp base model. The Modena V6’s 385 hp, 368 lb-ft and 160-mph top speed likewise move the Grecale beyond the MY25 four-cylinder specification. Match engine, tires, brakes, suspension and equipment before judging acceleration or ride.
A practical test-drive and purchase checklist
- Confirm the exact model year and engine. Write down the VIN, engine designation and drivetrain. Do not compare a MY25 Grecale figure with a 2026 listing without checking what changed.
- Request itemized pricing. Separate MSRP, destination, taxes, registration, dealer fees, accessories, incentives and financing costs. Compare two completed build sheets, not two advertised starting prices.
- Drive the same route in both SUVs. Include a rough urban street, stop-and-go traffic, a highway merge, a sweeping bend and a tight parking maneuver. Pay attention to steering effort, seat comfort, brake smoothness, wind noise and suspension impact harshness.
- Use your own cargo. Load the stroller, luggage, pet carrier, sports equipment or child seat you actually use. Measure the opening and verify that the rear seats fold in the configuration you need.
- Check every adult seating position. Sit in the rear seat behind your preferred front position, test visibility and inspect the center-seat space. Longer wheelbase is useful only if the seat shape and floor area work for your passengers.
- Verify towing and accessories in writing. If you tow, obtain the VIN-specific braked rating, hitch hardware requirements and tongue-weight limit. Do not infer a Grecale rating from engine power.
- Audit warranty and service coverage. Get the basic warranty, powertrain terms, roadside assistance, maintenance inclusions and optional extended-warranty price on paper. Confirm the nearest authorized service location and expected scheduling process.
- Check the final fuel-economy label. Ratings differ by engine, wheels and certification year. Use the sticker for the exact vehicle rather than a generic model-page number.
Safety and evidence limits
The available material does not provide directly comparable, current crash-test results for both SUVs or a complete same-market inventory of standard driver-assistance features. It is therefore not responsible to declare a safety winner from these specifications alone. If crash protection or assistance technology is a deciding factor, compare the exact model year and market through a matched safety database, then verify which features are standard on the vehicle you are ordering.

The Macan is the sensible default for daily driving: lower entry MSRP, slightly better cited base city fuel economy, clearer steering and a more finished balance between comfort and control. The Grecale earns its place when you are willing to pay more for rarity, design, a longer wheelbase and a stronger base engine in the cited MY25 configuration. Drive equivalent trims, price the actual equipment and confirm local service before choosing; the right SUV is the one whose compromises fit your commute and household every day.
