Choose the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara if you specifically want a strong hybrid, factory S-CNG or ALLGRIP Select. Choose the Hyundai Creta when the exact Creta engine, automatic/manual gearbox, cabin features or driving feel better match your priorities. Neither SUV wins every comparison: prices, equipment and performance change significantly by variant, so compare equivalent versions and obtain current on-road quotations in your city.
This India-market comparison uses information available through October 13, 2026. Manufacturer claims, comparison-site figures and test results are identified separately because they are not interchangeable.

Maruti Grand Vitara and Hyundai Creta at a glance
These are mid-size SUVs aimed at similar buyers, but their strongest reasons to buy are different. The Grand Vitara has the broader fuel-and-drivetrain strategy: Smart Hybrid petrol, Strong Hybrid petrol-electric, S-CNG and, on selected versions, ALLGRIP Select all-wheel drive. The Creta’s suitability depends more heavily on the particular petrol or diesel engine, transmission and trim you select.
| Question | Grand Vitara | Creta |
|---|---|---|
| Lowest quoted base price in the retrieved comparison | ₹10.77 lakh, Sigma ex-showroom (ZigWheels comparison last updated October 6, 2026) | ₹10.91 lakh, E ex-showroom (same ZigWheels comparison) |
| Distinctive powertrain choices | Strong Hybrid, Smart Hybrid, S-CNG and selected ALLGRIP Select versions | Exact engine and gearbox availability must be checked for the chosen 2026 trim; a matched current Hyundai specification set was not established here |
| Officially stated safety equipment | Six airbags standard on the updated 2025 range, ESP with hill-hold, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX | Verify equipment by current trim and market specification |
| Best reason to shortlist | Fuel-choice flexibility, hybrid efficiency potential, CNG running or optional all-wheel drive | A particular Creta variant’s engine, transmission, equipment or driving character suits you better |
The figures above are not a crash-test or ownership verdict. Registration, insurance, dealer charges, accessories, discounts and taxes can make the on-road price substantially different from ex-showroom figures.

Price: why the numbers do not line up neatly
Price references come from two different points in time and do not describe identical configurations. Maruti Suzuki’s April 2025 update listed the refreshed Grand Vitara from ₹11.42 lakh ex-showroom and introduced the Delta+ Strong Hybrid at an introductory ₹16.99 lakh. Its June 2025 S-CNG release listed that version from ₹13.48 lakh. By contrast, the ZigWheels comparison updated October 6, 2026 shows ₹10.77 lakh for the Grand Vitara Sigma and ₹10.91 lakh for the Creta E.
The apparent contradiction can result from variant naming, model-year changes, introductory pricing, website updates and the way comparison pages retain or refresh prices. Treat the numbers as dated reference points, not as a quotation for your purchase. Ask both dealers for an itemised, same-day on-road sheet for the exact fuel type, gearbox and trim.
What to include in an on-road comparison
- Ex-showroom price for the same model year and city.
- Registration and road-tax charges.
- Insurance premium and the insurer’s declared add-ons.
- Fastag, handling or logistics charges, accessories and extended warranty.
- Current cash discounts, exchange bonuses and finance-linked conditions.
- For a hybrid or CNG, any difference in service package, roadside assistance or warranty terms.
Powertrains and transmissions: compare like with like
Grand Vitara buyers can choose among fundamentally different systems. The Smart Hybrid is a conventional petrol setup assisted by a mild-hybrid system. The Strong Hybrid combines a petrol engine with electric drive and a battery, prioritising low-speed electric assistance and fuel economy. The S-CNG uses a 1.5-litre K-series engine calibrated for compressed natural gas. ALLGRIP Select is an available all-wheel-drive route on selected petrol versions. These are not interchangeable trims: purchase price, luggage arrangement, performance, refuelling options and running costs differ.

The Creta comparison must be made at the same level. A petrol manual, petrol automatic, turbo-petrol dual-clutch automatic and diesel automatic can deliver very different acceleration, efficiency and ownership considerations. Autocar India’s displayed comparison, for example, places a Creta diesel automatic against a Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid. Its specifications are useful for those selected vehicles, but they cannot be presented as universal Creta-versus-Grand-Vitara figures.
| Powertrain route | Who should consider it | Checks before booking |
|---|---|---|
| Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid | Urban drivers seeking a hybrid system and willing to pay the higher entry price | Confirm battery warranty, boot space, exact gearbox, delivery timing and whether your annual kilometres justify the premium |
| Grand Vitara Smart Hybrid petrol | Mixed driving with simpler refuelling and conventional petrol operation | Compare the exact manual or automatic variant with the equivalent Creta engine and equipment |
| Grand Vitara S-CNG | High-mileage users with dependable CNG access | Check local CNG-station coverage, boot-space compromise, queue times and the CNG version’s available trims |
| Grand Vitara ALLGRIP Select | Drivers who regularly face low-grip roads and want selectable all-wheel drive | Verify that the desired trim actually includes ALLGRIP, then budget for tyres and higher fuel use where applicable |
| Creta petrol or diesel | Buyers whose preferred Creta engine and transmission deliver the desired response and equipment | Obtain the current brochure and drive the exact powertrain; do not substitute a different engine for a showroom test |
Fuel economy: understand what each number measures
Maruti Suzuki states 26.6 km/kg for the 2025 Grand Vitara S-CNG. That is a manufacturer-claimed figure for the CNG model and should not be compared directly with petrol kmpl numbers. ZigWheels lists 21.11 kmpl for the Grand Vitara and 17.4 kmpl for the Creta in its October 2026 comparison. Those are comparison-page figures, not an independently controlled test established here.
Autocar India displays 27.97 kmpl for the particular Grand Vitara selected on its page and 19.1 kmpl for the selected Creta diesel automatic. Because the vehicles use different fuels and powertrains, the pair is not a fair like-for-like efficiency result. The relevant question is what your chosen variant can deliver in your traffic, climate, load and driving style.

Estimate whether a hybrid or CNG premium makes sense
- Write down realistic annual kilometres, separating city and highway use.
- Use local petrol and CNG prices rather than a national average.
- Request the exact variant’s quoted economy and treat it as a reference, not a guarantee.
- Calculate annual fuel spend for each option, then divide the price premium by the expected annual saving.
- Add practical factors: access to CNG stations, time spent refuelling, luggage needs and resale uncertainty.
A driver covering few kilometres may never recover a hybrid or CNG premium through fuel savings alone. A high-mileage urban user with reliable CNG availability or frequent stop-start traffic may value the operating pattern more.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteSafety equipment and crash-test evidence
Maruti Suzuki says six airbags are standard across the updated 2025 Grand Vitara range. The same release lists electronic stability program with hill-hold, anti-lock braking with electronic brake-force distribution and ISOFIX child-seat restraints. The S-CNG announcement also says six airbags are standard on that model. These are stated equipment levels, not proof of how either SUV performs in an independent crash test.
In its April 2025 update, Maruti Suzuki senior executive officer Partho Banerjee said the Grand Vitara update was intended to respond to changing customer priorities around safety and comfort. In the June S-CNG announcement, he described six airbags and added convenience equipment. Both comments are manufacturer statements, so use them to understand Maruti’s positioning rather than as independent assessments.
The available evidence does not establish a matched, current independent crash-test rating for the Grand Vitara and Creta. Do not infer a safety ranking from an airbag count, a manufacturer quotation or a different market’s result. Check the final invoice and delivery vehicle for the safety equipment promised in the brochure.
Family checklist before delivery
- Confirm the number and location of airbags on the exact trim.
- Check that ESP, hill-hold, ABS and EBD are listed for that variant.
- Locate the ISOFIX points and top-tether anchorage if you use a child seat.
- Bring the intended child seat to the dealership, follow its installation manual and confirm clearance with the front seat.
- Ask whether a spare wheel, tyre-repair kit and emergency equipment vary by powertrain.
Features, comfort and daily usability
Feature comparisons become misleading when a base Creta is measured against a high-trim Grand Vitara, or when a hybrid is compared with a manual petrol model. Build a checklist from the two exact quotations: infotainment and connectivity, camera and parking sensors, climate controls, seat adjustment, rear-seat conveniences, sunroof or panoramic-roof equipment, lighting, upholstery, charging ports and driver-assistance functions. Mark each item as standard, optional, accessory or unavailable rather than relying on a model-wide claim.
Test-drive the cars back-to-back on the same route. Check front-seat adjustment, rear knee room with your normal driving position, outward visibility, low-speed clutch or automatic response, ride quality over broken surfaces, highway noise, steering weight and ease of parking. If you are considering the S-CNG or Strong Hybrid, inspect the luggage area with your family’s actual bags; drivetrain hardware can alter usable space.

Small usability differences often matter more than a long equipment list.
Which SUV fits common buyer profiles?
Mostly city driving and high annual mileage
Shortlist the Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid and the relevant Creta automatic, then compare their exact prices, traffic efficiency and warranty terms. The hybrid’s headline economy may be attractive in stop-start use, but calculate the premium using your annual kilometres.
Long commutes with dependable CNG access
The Grand Vitara S-CNG is the distinctive option because it is factory-built for CNG. The stated 26.6 km/kg claim applies to that model. Confirm station availability along your routes and accept that the CNG choice may narrow trim and luggage options.
Occasional rough roads, hills or low-grip surfaces
Investigate the Grand Vitara ALLGRIP Select version specifically. It is not a feature of every Grand Vitara, and all-wheel drive does not replace suitable tyres, careful speed and correct technique. If the Creta trim you prefer has better seating, powertrain response or ground-clearance confidence for your actual roads, it may still be the more satisfying choice.
Lowest initial purchase price
Use the dated ZigWheels figures only as a starting point: ₹10.77 lakh for Grand Vitara Sigma versus ₹10.91 lakh for Creta E, both ex-showroom. The difference is small enough that equipment, insurance and city charges can reverse it. Compare the features included at the quoted price rather than choosing on the badge or headline amount.
Family safety and child-seat use
The updated Grand Vitara has a documented six-airbag standard and ISOFIX restraints. Confirm the corresponding Creta equipment on the chosen trim, then install your actual child seat in both vehicles before signing.

A step-by-step way to choose the right variant
- Set the real budget. Decide the maximum on-road amount, monthly payment and cash reserve for insurance, tyres and scheduled maintenance.
- Choose the fuel route. Select petrol, strong hybrid or CNG based on driving distance and local refuelling access, not a brochure’s single economy number.
- Fix the transmission. Decide whether you require a manual, torque-converter automatic, continuously variable transmission or dual-clutch type, then compare only equivalent gearboxes.
- List non-negotiable equipment. Include airbags, ESP, ISOFIX, camera, parking sensors, climate control, lighting and the connectivity features you actually use.
- Request two itemised quotes. Ask for the same date, city, insurance coverage and accessory assumptions from Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai dealers.
- Drive exact variants. Record ride, visibility, power delivery, braking, gearbox behaviour and rear-seat comfort; avoid judging a lower or higher trim than the one you will buy.
- Verify delivery specification. Match the VIN, model year, promised equipment, tyres and warranty documents to the signed quotation.
Budgeting beyond the sticker price
Separate the purchase decision into three figures: the amount due at delivery, the financed amount and the recurring monthly cost. A lower ex-showroom price can be outweighed by insurance, registration, accessories or a higher interest burden. Ask each dealer to show discounts before and after finance, and request the same insurance coverage so the quotes remain comparable.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Keep a reserve for tyres, scheduled service, roadside assistance renewal and unexpected wear. For the Strong Hybrid, ask for battery-warranty duration, exclusions and the procedure for a future replacement. Get these answers in writing rather than relying on a verbal promise.
Questions to ask the showroom
- Is this quote for the current model year, and what is the manufacturing month?
- Which features are factory-fitted, dealer-installed accessories or unavailable on this trim?
- What is the exact insurance IDV, deductible and add-on list?
- Does the quoted delivery include Fastag, handling, logistics and extended warranty charges?
- For hybrid or CNG versions, what are the battery, gas-system and roadside-assistance warranty terms?
- Can I drive the exact engine, gearbox and trim with my usual passengers?
- What is the expected waiting period, and is the quoted price protected until delivery?
Ownership questions the available evidence cannot settle
No supported matched dataset here proves that either SUV is more reliable, cheaper to maintain, stronger in resale value or lower in lifetime cost. Brand reputation and anecdotes are not substitutes for itemised evidence. Before buying, ask authorised service centres for scheduled-service prices, ask owners for invoices rather than impressions, and compare warranty exclusions, hybrid-battery coverage and CNG-system support in writing.
Also check local parts and workshop access. A powertrain that is ideal on paper can be inconvenient if trained technicians, replacement tyres or fuel stations are difficult to find in your area. These are city-specific ownership realities and cannot be inferred from ex-showroom pricing.
Common comparison mistakes
- Mixing fuels: km/kg for CNG, kmpl for petrol or diesel, and hybrid test figures measure different things.
- Comparing unmatched trims: A top Grand Vitara hybrid and base Creta are not equivalent purchases.
- Treating a website price as an invoice: Comparison pages and introductory prices can age; obtain a current dealer quote.
- Assuming standard equipment: Confirm each safety and comfort item on the exact variant’s brochure and delivery car.
- Using a manufacturer quote as an independent verdict: Statements about safety or convenience describe the maker’s position, not a crash-test result.
- Ignoring refuelling logistics: CNG savings disappear if stations are far away or queues disrupt your routine.
- Choosing from a single test drive: Drive both vehicles on matching roads with your usual passengers and luggage.

Which is better for high-mileage city driving?
Shortlist the Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid and an equivalent Creta automatic. Compare the actual purchase premium, traffic fuel use, warranty terms and your annual kilometres. A hybrid may suit frequent stop-start driving, but a low-mileage owner may not recover its higher price through fuel savings.
Does the Grand Vitara come with CNG from the factory?
Yes. Maruti’s 2025 Grand Vitara S-CNG is factory-built with a 1.5-litre K-series engine. Maruti states 26.6 km/kg and listed a ₹13.48 lakh ex-showroom starting price in its June 2025 release. Confirm current trims, boot space, station access and the latest quote before booking.
Is six-airbag equipment standard on both SUVs?
Maruti states that six airbags are standard across the updated 2025 Grand Vitara range, including the S-CNG announcement. The corresponding Creta equipment must be verified on the current trim and market specification. Airbag counts alone do not establish comparative crash performance.
Which Grand Vitara versions have ALLGRIP Select?
ALLGRIP Select is offered only on selected petrol versions, not every Grand Vitara. Check the exact brochure and VIN-linked equipment list. All-wheel drive cannot replace suitable tyres, careful driving and appropriate technique on hills or low-grip roads.
Can I compare the mileage figures shown online directly?
No. The cited figures use different methods and powertrains: Maruti claims 26.6 km/kg for S-CNG, ZigWheels lists 21.11 kmpl for Grand Vitara and 17.4 kmpl for Creta, while Autocar displays figures for selected vehicles including a Creta diesel automatic. Compare equivalent variants and treat all figures as references.
Which SUV has lower maintenance and better resale value?
The cited material does not provide a matched, reliable dataset that proves a winner for maintenance, reliability, resale or lifetime cost. Ask local authorised workshops for service schedules and prices, inspect owner invoices, and compare warranty coverage for the exact powertrain.
What should a family test before buying?
Install your actual child seat using the vehicle’s ISOFIX and top-tether points, check front-seat clearance, assess rear-seat comfort and visibility, and load your normal luggage. Confirm airbags, ESP, ABS, EBD, emergency equipment and the promised warranty on the delivery vehicle.

Bottom line: The Maruti Grand Vitara is the more versatile choice when strong-hybrid efficiency, factory S-CNG or selected ALLGRIP capability is central to your decision. Start with exact variants, compare equivalent equipment and transmissions, obtain city-specific on-road quotes, and test-drive both before signing.
