Mars Adventure Gear says its Aeroblade is “likely the world’s slimmest 4-season hardshell rooftop tent,” citing a closed height of 3.48 inches. That is a manufacturer claim, not a verified worldwide ranking. The tent’s standout spec is its low closed profile—not low weight: Mars lists it at about 110 pounds, and New Atlas says lighter hard-shell tents are available.
What makes the Aeroblade unusually slim?
Mars lists the Aeroblade’s closed exterior dimensions as 87 × 52.2 × 3.48 inches. Its product page calls it the “world’s slimmest hardshell rooftop tent,” while its April 15, 2025 announcement uses the more qualified phrase “likely the world’s slimmest 4-season hardshell rooftop tent.” New Atlas independently reported the 3.48-inch measurement, but its coverage is not a comprehensive survey of every rooftop tent on the market.
That qualification matters because “slimmest” depends on what counts as a hard-shell tent and which products are included in the comparison. New Atlas reported that the Badass Packout is 3 inches thick, but described it as having a soft roof over a wedge-shaped body, which it excluded from the hard-shell comparison. That example adds context; it does not establish a definitive global ranking.
Closed profile is not the same as light weight
Mars lists the Aeroblade at approximately 110 pounds. New Atlas reported a hard-shell competitor about 30 pounds lighter, so the Aeroblade’s thin closed profile should not be mistaken for a class-leading weight. Buyers need to consider both measurements: closed height affects the rooftop profile when traveling, while weight is a separate load for the vehicle and rack to support.

How much room is inside?
According to Mars, the open interior measures 82.2 × 46.5 × 50 inches. The listed closed exterior footprint is 87 × 52.2 inches, with the 3.48-inch figure describing its closed height. These are manufacturer specifications rather than independent measurements. Mars also lists an integrated foam mattress.
What Mars says about aerodynamics
Mars says a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation found roughly 60% less drag force than traditional hard-shell rooftop tents. The company’s April 15, 2025 announcement does not provide enough methodology to independently evaluate that comparison, so the figure should be read as a company-reported simulation result—not a verified road-test result or a guaranteed improvement in range or fuel economy.

A lower rooftop profile may help reduce aerodynamic penalties, but the size of any effect on a particular vehicle will depend on the vehicle, rack, speed, wind and other conditions. Mars’s announcement also says aerodynamic drag accounts for 30% to 50% of total energy consumption for EVs; the company did not provide an underlying independent source for that broad statistic in the announcement.
The same announcement quotes Mars co-founder Ivan Wang: “Electric overlanding and camping is growing fast, but the gear hasn’t kept up.” That is Wang’s view, not independent evidence of market growth.

Materials, weather figures and kit options
Mars describes the Aeroblade’s triple-layer fabric as breathable, waterproof and condensation-resistant, and says its frame uses extruded aluminum with UV-resistant coatings. The manufacturer lists UPF 50+, a hydrostatic head of 18,890 mmH2O and a water-vapor transmission rate (WVTR) of 10,900 g/(m²·24h). These are published product specifications; the cited sources do not report independent verification of the figures.

Mars says the tent works with most racks and crossbars, but advises buyers who are unsure to confirm fitment. Check the vehicle’s roof-load limits and the rack manufacturer’s ratings, then confirm that the specific rack and crossbar arrangement is compatible with the tent before ordering.
