The trucks are entering service on container routes from Wakefield and Avonmouth as part of the five-year eFREIGHT 2030 trial—an operational test, not yet proof of long-term cost or emissions performance.
What the five-truck deployment involves
The Renault units are 42-tonne E-Tech T tractor units operating through Maritime ZERO, the division Maritime established in 2025 to oversee zero-emission vehicles, charging infrastructure, software and data. Renault Trucks announced the deployment on 2 October 2026, according to its announcement; Maritime’s news listing also dates the announcement to 2 October 2026 (Maritime Transport news).
The trucks are part of eFREIGHT 2030, a five-year trial within the UK Government’s Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrator Programme. The programme is funded by the Department for Transport and delivered in partnership with Innovate UK, according to Renault Trucks.
Where Maritime is using them
The initial deployment covers Wakefield and Avonmouth. At Wakefield, containers arrive at Maritime’s inland rail terminal by train from deep-sea ports and continue by road to their destinations. The announcement says this work includes deliveries for a major UK retailer but does not name the retailer. Maritime expects the Renault trucks to move around its network as its zero-emission operations develop.

This rail-to-road work gives the company a defined freight task on which to assess electric trucks in day-to-day service. The announcement does not publish route distances, payloads carried by these specific units or their actual energy use.
Renault’s stated range and specifications
Renault Trucks describes the E-Tech T as having a range of up to 300 km on a single charge. That is the manufacturer’s stated maximum, not a reported result from Maritime’s routes. The announcement does not give actual operating range, route-specific consumption or charging time.

These are manufacturer-reported specifications; the release does not give a route-specific payload or explain the conditions behind the maximum-range figure.
Charging and fleet monitoring
Maritime says the trucks will charge predominantly overnight at inland bases. It also points to opportunities for daytime charging, when energy is often cheapest, and says the trucks may use other charge points across its national network as utilization grows. The announcement does not identify a charging supplier or charger output, or report measured charging costs.

The company uses Renault Trucks’ Optifleet connected fleet management system to monitor efficiency, driver behaviour and vehicle location. Maritime says it can choose which data to use, with efficiency a particular focus for its electric vehicles.

Maritime began introducing electric HGVs into its operation in January 2026. It says it selected vehicles from multiple manufacturers to assess day-to-day performance before making longer-term fleet decisions; the announcement does not name all the models being assessed or publish comparative results.

The company plans to evaluate uptime and maintenance, as well as battery degradation, vehicle longevity and residual values. Driver acceptance and efficiency data also inform the picture. Chris Buck, Maritime’s EV Network Manager, described the Renault trucks’ early reliability positively, but this is an initial company-reported observation: no comparative reliability figures or long-term evaluation are provided.
That distinction matters for fleets weighing a change from diesel. The announcement reports no purchase prices, total-cost-of-ownership results, measured emissions savings or diesel-versus-electric comparison for these five trucks. The deployment adds operating experience; it does not establish a winning model or a quantified business case.
