The report says he survived, but describes him only as bruised and battered; it is not an official crash investigation, and independent confirmation of his condition was not located.
What happened in the Brazil motorcycle crash?
Simon White’s PerthNow report, published 13 September 2017, describes helmet-camera footage credited to Jukin Media. According to the report, the rider passed a truck and then crashed. PerthNow says he was wearing shorts and no shoes.
The report does not establish the rider’s identity, the crash’s date or exact location, the road, the motorcycle model, or the original uploader. It also does not identify an official cause of the crash. The footwear and clothing described in the account should not be treated as proof of what caused the collision.
Did the rider survive?
PerthNow reported that the rider was alive and described him as bruised and battered. The reporting available here does not provide independent confirmation of his condition, so that outcome should be attributed to the 2017 account rather than presented as independently verified.

How fast was the motorcycle going?
Although the headline refers to 180 km/h, PerthNow gave a reported maximum speed of 185 km/h. That is the figure in the article, not a speed independently established by an official crash record.
What protective gear does Brazil’s DNIT recommend?
Brazil’s National Department of Transportation Infrastructure (DNIT) says motorcyclists should use protective clothing. In its 28 April 2023 safety guidance, it says riders must use a safety helmet with a visor or protective glasses, hold the handlebars with both hands, and wear protective clothing in accordance with CONTRAN specifications. The article recommends resistant clothing and accessories including gloves and boots.

DNIT’s 17 February 2023 guidance calls for a closed, fastened helmet with the visor down, resistant clothing, gloves, and boots with higher shafts to protect the legs. For footwear, that points toward coverage and protective construction rather than ordinary shoes or bare feet. These are general safety recommendations, not evidence that any particular item would have prevented this crash or changed its outcome.

In its 28 April 2023 article, DNIT attributed figures to the Federal Highway Police (PRF) for motorcycle-involved crashes on Brazilian highways in January 2022: 5,043 crashes, 1,456 serious crashes, 4,569 minor crashes, and 472 deaths. DNIT’s listed categories do not reconcile with its stated total, so they should be read as figures reported by the agency without combining or recalculating them.
