There is no single reset sequence established for every Mercedes-Benz camera. The right recovery depends on your model, model year, market and multimedia system, so check the owner’s manual for your exact vehicle before trying any button sequence. If the image remains black, a fault message persists, or camera hardware may be damaged, do not rely on the camera; arrange a qualified inspection.
What to do first when your Mercedes camera stops working
- Identify your vehicle and camera. Note the model, model year and market, and whether the problem affects the rear-view camera or a 360° camera. Mercedes-Benz USA provides an owner’s manual lookup by year and model; use the manual for your vehicle rather than assuming its controls match another Mercedes.
- Check the view-selection instructions. Follow the manual to select the expected camera view, such as the rear-camera view when reversing. A missing image may reflect a selection or operating condition, not a resettable software state.
- Check basic conditions. Look for anything covering or fogging the lens, and confirm doors, tailgate and mirrors are in the required positions for your vehicle. The detailed checklist below comes from the 2025 G-Class manual and may not apply in every detail to other models.
- Use only a recovery procedure stated for your vehicle. Do not guess at a control or copy a button sequence from a different model.
- Escalate a persistent fault. If the screen remains black, a system-inoperative warning continues, or a camera or its mounting area appears damaged, stop depending on the camera and arrange diagnosis with an authorized Mercedes-Benz center or qualified workshop.
Is there a universal Mercedes camera reset?
No universal Mercedes-Benz camera reset sequence is established here. Procedures vary by model, year, market and multimedia system, and the available manuals do not support treating one button combination as a fix for every rear-view or 360° camera.
One model-specific example appears in the March 2020 GLE V167 MBUX manual: if reverse is selected and the rear-camera image does not appear, it describes switching off the ignition, pressing and holding a button, switching the ignition on, and selecting reverse again. The button is shown as an image in the manual extract, so its identity cannot be verified from the text available here. Do not try to infer which control it means. Consult the complete manual for the exact vehicle before attempting any such procedure.
Why a Mercedes camera screen may be black
Lens is dirty, covered or fogged
A blocked or fogged lens can prevent a useful image. The 2025 G-Class manual lists a covered, dirty or fogged camera lens as a limitation. Inspect the lens and clean it only as directed in your vehicle’s manual; cleaning is not a reset or a repair for an electrical or system fault.

Vehicle or environmental conditions limit the view
The 2025 G-Class manual also identifies open doors, a mirror that is not fully unfolded, an open tailgate, adverse weather or lighting, and damage to a camera or its mounting parts as factors that can limit the camera system. Check the conditions relevant to your vehicle and try again when they are corrected.
System fault or camera damage
A black image or an inoperative-system message can mean the system is faulty or not ready. If the message continues after checking the applicable conditions and view selection, or if hardware looks damaged, have the vehicle inspected rather than repeatedly attempting resets.

What to know about a 360° camera view
Mercedes-Benz’s 2025 G-Class manual describes its 360° camera as a system consisting of four cameras. That is a G-Class-specific description, not a specification to assume for every Mercedes model.
The same manual warns that camera images may show obstacles with distorted perspective, incorrectly, or not at all. A 360° view is an aid, not a substitute for checking the surroundings directly. Keep driving attention on the area around the vehicle, especially when the image is missing, restricted or uncertain.

When to stop troubleshooting and get help
- The camera stays black after you have checked the manual’s view-selection and operating-condition guidance.
- A fault or system-inoperative message persists.
- A camera lens, camera unit or mounting area appears damaged.
- You cannot verify a reset procedure or identify the control it requires.
In these cases, avoid relying on the camera and ask an authorized Mercedes-Benz center or qualified workshop to diagnose the fault. The available information does not identify the cause for an individual vehicle or establish that an infotainment reset will resolve it.
