What the Thar OG launch confirms
Mahindra announced the Thar OG on 22 September 2026 and describes it as succeeding the three-door Thar unveiled in 2020. The company says deliveries are scheduled to begin on 11 October 2026; that is a stated future date, not evidence that customer deliveries have started. The launch lists three engines. The available combinations differ by engine, drivetrain, transmission and trim, so a mileage figure for one configuration would not automatically describe another.

Mahindra lists rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive versions and manual and automatic transmissions across the range. The announced introductory ex-showroom price range starts at ₹10.32 lakh for the AXT D117 CRDe and reaches ₹18.99 lakh for the listed ZXT D22 mHawk diesel automatic 4WD configuration. These are purchase prices, not on-road prices or maintenance estimates; refer to the official price and variant table for each configuration.

Mahindra Thar OG mileage: no verified figure yet
The launch announcement does not state a fuel-economy or mileage number. Because deliveries are scheduled to begin after 4 October 2026, no owner-tested Thar OG mileage is established here either. An estimate based on an older Thar, another engine, or a different drivetrain would not answer the question reliably.
When credible figures become available, compare like with like: petrol against petrol or diesel against diesel, and the same engine, drivetrain and transmission. Real-world mileage can also vary with route and driving conditions; a reported sample should identify its vehicle configuration and whether it reflects city, highway or mixed use. Until then, there is no substantiated Thar OG mileage figure to use for budgeting.

Thar OG service costs: what is and is not known
No Thar OG scheduled-service price or total has been verified. Mahindra’s website links to a Service Cost Calculator, but the link redirected to a generic error page when checked. That means it did not provide a usable quote; it does not establish what servicing will cost. A meaningful estimate would need to identify the OG variant, service interval, location, date and included work.
Do not treat the announced ex-showroom price as an ownership-cost estimate, or apply an older Thar service bill to the OG. Scheduled maintenance, fuel spending, insurance, taxes and on-road purchase costs are separate categories.

Routine care owners can do now
Mahindra’s general care guidance recommends using the vehicle’s owner’s manual maintenance schedule and checking basic items before driving. These checks are general advice, not a substitute for the Thar OG’s model-specific service schedule.
- Check tyre pressure and condition.
- Look for visible oil or coolant leaks.
- Check that the wipers are ready for use.
- Look for body damage and ensure mirrors are aligned.
- Clear debris from around the vehicle.
Mahindra’s care guidance is the source for these general checks. Once available, use the Thar OG owner’s manual for its service intervals, fluid specifications and other model-specific instructions.

Why an older Thar service schedule is not an OG schedule
The available Thar CRDe owner’s manual gives historical context, not confirmed Thar OG requirements. For that CRDe version, it calls for the first three inspection visits at 4,500–5,500 km or four months, 9,500–10,500 km or eight months, and 14,500–15,500 km or twelve months, whichever comes first. Labour for those inspections is listed as free, while oil, filters and maintenance items changed are charged. These intervals and charge terms apply to the manual’s CRDe documentation, not necessarily to the Thar OG.

What Thar OG buyers should verify
- Confirm the exact engine, drivetrain, transmission and trim before comparing a future mileage figure or service quote.
- Ask an authorised Mahindra service centre for an OG-specific estimate once it can identify the vehicle and service interval.
- Use the OG owner’s manual—not a legacy CRDe schedule—for maintenance timing and fluid specifications.
- Keep fuel economy, scheduled servicing and purchase/on-road costs separate when planning a budget.
