If you need an electric SUV now, obtain a current Harrier.ev variant quote and delivery commitment from a Tata dealer. If the electric Thar is your priority, wait for Mahindra to publish production specifications and retail timing before comparing price, range or equipment.
This distinction matters because a concept announcement can show design and engineering direction without confirming the vehicle that customers will eventually buy. The comparison below separates confirmed launch facts from items you must verify on a current vehicle, quotation and warranty document.

What is actually confirmed as of October 2026?
The available official announcements establish two very different stages of development. Mahindra unveiled Vision Thar.e on 15 August 2023 as an all-new born-electric avatar built around the INGLO electric platform. The release described a modular construction approach, an all-wheel-drive electric powertrain and a design direction. It did not provide a production price, battery capacity, certified range, charging time or retail launch date.
Tata announced the Harrier.ev on 3 June 2025, published an introductory starting price, and described the battery and dual-motor hardware used for its highlighted performance figures. Tata then announced production commencement on 4 July 2025 and customer deliveries beginning in July 2025. Those announcements establish a production and delivery programme at that time, not guaranteed stock in every city in October 2026.

Availability should come before the badge or styling
Harrier.ev: a production vehicle, but not an automatic immediate delivery
Tata’s July 2025 production and delivery announcement means the Harrier.ev moved beyond a show vehicle. It does not tell you whether a dealer near you has the trim, colour or battery configuration you want. Ask for a written stock confirmation or allocation reference, the expected handover date, and the cancellation or refund terms if that date moves.
Do not treat the June 2025 introductory price as today’s on-road cost. Registration, insurance, accessories, financing, home-charger work and local taxes can change the amount payable. A dealer’s quote should identify the vehicle variant and quote date, and should state whether the charger or installation is included.
Vision Thar.e: an announced direction, not a retail specification sheet
Vision Thar.e is useful for understanding Mahindra’s intended electric-Thar design and platform strategy. It is not evidence that a production vehicle has the same battery, motors, dimensions, cabin, software or off-road limits. The cited release does not state when customers can order one. Before placing a deposit, look for a Mahindra production announcement, a final model name, a homologated specification sheet and a dealer order document.

What Tata published for the Harrier.ev
Tata’s launch material describes a dual-motor configuration with the front motor rated at 158 PS (116 kW) and the rear motor at 238 PS (175 kW), producing 504 Nm of combined torque. Tata reported 0–100 km/h in 6.3 seconds for that launch configuration and presented it as a segment-leading claim. Because the figures are tied to a particular configuration, confirm whether the vehicle you are ordering has both motors and the same calibration.

The announcement also highlighted QWD, six terrain modes and Transparent Mode. These features may be valuable on loose surfaces, but a press-release feature list does not prove that every trim includes them. Ask the dealer to identify the feature in the current variant sheet and demonstrate the relevant screen and drive-mode controls in a stationary vehicle before a test drive.
What Mahindra has and has not said about Vision Thar.e
Mahindra’s concept release describes an AWD electric powertrain on the INGLO platform. That is a statement of engineering intent, not a production torque figure or a guarantee of mechanical hardware. There is no supported production number here for acceleration, battery output, wheel size, ground clearance, approach angle or water-wading.
For genuine trail use, request the final vehicle’s rated clearance, approach and departure angles, breakover angle, maximum gradient, wading depth, tyre specification, recovery points and underbody protection. Also ask whether the warranty permits the terrain you intend to drive. A selectable terrain mode cannot compensate for unsuitable tyres, poor recovery practice or driving beyond the vehicle’s rated limits.
Range and charging: the missing figures are a buying issue
The Harrier.ev launch announcement names a 75 kWh battery for its highlighted performance details, but the material available here does not establish a directly comparable certified range figure for both vehicles. Do not convert battery capacity into an assumed range: consumption varies with speed, temperature, load, terrain, tyre pressure and air-conditioning use.

For the Harrier.ev, ask for the exact certification-cycle range of the selected variant, the usable as opposed to gross battery capacity, and a charging curve showing how quickly the battery accepts power at different states of charge. Confirm the AC home-charging rate, DC connector, maximum DC input, pre-conditioning behaviour and whether navigation can plan charging stops.
There is no production Thar.e range or charging-time figure supported by the cited concept announcement. Any number circulating without a final Mahindra specification should be treated as an estimate. Ask Mahindra or an authorised dealer for the battery warranty, minimum state-of-health terms, software-update policy and approved charging equipment once a production model is announced.
A practical home-charging checklist
- Check the parking space, electrical-panel capacity, earthing and cable route with an authorised installer.
- Confirm the vehicle’s onboard AC charger rating and connector before buying a wallbox. A search such as “7.2 kW home EV charger” is only a starting point; it does not establish compatibility with either vehicle.
- Obtain a written installation quote covering survey, cable length, protection devices, mounting, commissioning and any civil work.
- Ask the dealer whether charging equipment is included, optional or supplied separately, and whether installation affects the vehicle warranty.
- Plan a normal weekly route and a backup public-charging route rather than relying on the headline battery size.
Cabin, family practicality and technology
Concept features are not production promises
Vision Thar.e’s concept announcement describes a central pivoting screen, grab handles and a minimal interior. It also states that 50% recycled PET is used in the concept’s fabrics. These details show the design philosophy; they do not establish final seat dimensions, screen operation, materials, child-seat mounting, luggage volume or durability.

During a test drive, fit the child seats or luggage you actually use. Check rear-seat knee room with the front seats set for your drivers, boot access with the charging cable aboard, outward visibility, turning circle and the position of the charging port. Demonstrate the infotainment, camera views, drive-mode selector and Transparent Mode rather than accepting a feature name on a brochure.

Request the final safety-equipment list for the exact trim, including airbags, electronic stability functions, parking sensors, cameras and any driver-assistance systems. Confirm whether software features require a subscription, a phone connection or periodic dealer updates. Neither the concept release nor the launch summary supplies a complete, trim-by-trim equipment matrix.

Start with the exact variant, not the model headline. For the Harrier.ev, use the dated ₹21.49 lakh figure only as historical launch context. Compare current ex-showroom pricing with registration, insurance, financing interest, accessories, a home charger and installation. Ask how long the quoted price remains valid and what happens if taxes or logistics charges change before registration.
No comparable ownership-cost dataset is established for these two vehicles. Avoid invented fuel-savings, service-cost or resale calculations. Instead, collect the warranty booklet, battery coverage, roadside-assistance terms, service intervals, software-support commitment and exclusions for accident, flooding, towing and off-road use.

Map the authorised service network along your regular routes. Ask who can diagnose the high-voltage system, how a disabled vehicle is recovered, whether replacement parts are stocked locally and where battery repairs are performed. If the nearest qualified workshop is far away, include towing time and cost in your ownership decision.

- Define the job. Write down annual kilometres, longest regular trip, home parking, passenger count, luggage needs and the proportion of paved, broken or unpaved roads.
- Establish purchase readiness. Get a dated Harrier.ev stock or allocation document. For the Thar.e, request a formal Mahindra production announcement and order pathway; do not treat concept images as an orderable car.
- Compare like-for-like trims. Record motor count, battery, wheels and tyres, terrain modes, camera systems, safety equipment and warranty for each exact variant.

Choose the Harrier.ev path if you need an EV on a defined timetable
The Harrier.ev is the only vehicle in this comparison with a cited production and delivery announcement. It is the sensible starting point for a buyer who needs a registered electric SUV, provided a local dealer can supply the desired variant and the home-charging plan works. Your decision should depend on the current quote, equipment and support—not on the old introductory price.
Wait for production Thar.e information if the electric Thar concept is the priority
Vision Thar.e may appeal because of its electric-Thar identity, AWD concept and distinctive cabin direction. Waiting is rational when those characteristics matter more than a fixed purchase date. Set a trigger for action: a final specification, certified range, charging details, price, warranty, delivery schedule and a demonstrable production vehicle.
Do not decide from acceleration alone
The published Harrier.ev acceleration figure is relevant only to the specified dual-motor launch configuration. For most owners, charging convenience, seat comfort, service distance, tyre choice and verified safety equipment affect satisfaction more often than a single acceleration number. For trail users, rated geometry and support matter more than a marketing claim about drive modes.
