Ratings and model-year leaders are from iSeeCars’ 2026 reliability ranking and 2026 quality ranking. iSeeCars says its reliability analysis covers more than 312 million vehicles and estimates useful lifespan and likelihood of reaching 200,000 miles. Its best-used-car analysis examines data from more than 12 million new and used vehicles and combines reliability, depreciation/value retention and NHTSA safety ratings; its described safety method also incorporates current IIHS Top Safety Pick information. Neither methodology can establish how a specific used car was maintained.

The IS 300 is the strongest starting point in this set if you want a compact luxury car: it leads the small/compact category in both cited rankings. Compare the actual trim and equipment, mileage, service history and asking price rather than treating its score as a guarantee for any individual listing.

Eight more models to compare—not eight proven winners

How to compare listings without overreading a score
Use the rankings to narrow your search, then compare actual cars. iSeeCars’ reliability and quality ratings answer different questions: a longevity-focused reliability figure is not interchangeable with a quality figure that also accounts for value retention and safety. Neither is an individualized forecast.
- Price and local availability: Check current listings in your area and compare asking prices for similar model years, trims and mileage. An under-$30,000 category designation is not a promise that a suitable local car will be listed at that price.
- Equipment and powertrain: Confirm the exact trim, options and configuration in the listing and on the vehicle. A model name alone does not tell you which features that specific car has.
- Mileage, service records and condition: Review the available maintenance history and arrange an appropriate vehicle inspection. A model-level score does not establish the history or condition of an individual example.
- Ownership terms and costs: Consider the vehicle’s condition and the terms and cost of any certified pre-owned coverage alongside the asking price.
Check the exact car’s safety ratings and recalls
Do not assume that every vehicle carrying the same model-year name has identical safety equipment or ratings. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) notes that changes can occur within a model year and that some awards or recommendations apply only to vehicles built after a particular date. Check the certification label, typically on or near the driver’s door, and look up ratings for the exact vehicle using IIHS.
Check the vehicle for open recalls and confirm that required repairs are complete. IIHS advises: “Before buying a used vehicle, always check the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration site for recalls and make sure all necessary repairs are completed.” Use the NHTSA recall lookup for the vehicle you are considering.
When certified pre-owned is worth considering
Certified pre-owned (CPO) can be a manufacturer-backed route to a used luxury car. Kelley Blue Book describes CPO vehicles as used vehicles backed by the manufacturer and presents CPO as a way to pay less than for a new car. Its resource covers programs from brands including Acura, Audi, BMW, Genesis, Infiniti, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo. But CPO does not mean one standard warranty or set of benefits across brands: check the terms for the exact vehicle and compare its total price with other listings in Kelley Blue Book’s CPO resource.
