The highest figure in this 12-engine comparison is the Hennessey Fury’s reported 1,817 hp. That number is not directly comparable with every other entry: some outputs depend on E85, two engines are part of hybrid powertrains, and the list includes both road-car applications and specialist crate-engine offerings. The ranking below follows the figures reported by SlashGear on January 19, 2025; it is an attributed comparison, not a set of independently measured results.
How to read the horsepower ranking
The order uses the V8 engine’s reported horsepower wherever the source distinguishes it from electric-motor output. Hybrid system totals are shown separately, and fuel-dependent ratings are labeled rather than presented as universal figures. “More than 900 hp” remains an estimate because no exact Shelby output was published in the cited article.
Horsepower is only one measure of performance. These figures do not by themselves compare torque, vehicle weight, gearing, acceleration, emissions compliance, or how easily an engine can be obtained and installed. SlashGear is the source for the twelve ranked figures below; the manufacturer sources later in the article independently document two related crate-engine products.

SSC Tuatara V8 — 1,750 hp on E85
The Tuatara’s V8 is reported at 1,750 hp on E85. SlashGear also gives 1,350 hp on 91-octane gasoline, a substantial difference that makes the fuel qualification essential to the comparison.

Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut V8 — 1,600 hp on E85
SlashGear reports 1,600 hp on E85 and 1,280 hp on pump gasoline. The top figure is therefore a fuel-specific rating, not the output to assume on ordinary gasoline.

Saleen S7 LM V8 — 1,500 hp on E85
The S7 LM’s reported 1,500 hp figure is for E85. SlashGear reports a lower output on pump gasoline but does not provide that figure in the ranking summary.

SlashGear lists the LT7 at 1,064 hp. The cited ranking does not attach a fuel condition to this number.

Dodge Hellephant C170 — 1,025 hp
The ranking reports 1,025 hp and says the output depends on E85. This entry should not be confused with the Hellephant 426 crate engine currently listed by Mopar at a different rating.

The V8’s reported contribution is 950 hp. SlashGear separately reports a higher hybrid system output; the engine figure, rather than the combined total, is used here to rank the V8s.

Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR V8 — more than 900 hp
SlashGear reports more than 900 hp and notes that Shelby did not publish an exact output. Because the figure is a lower-bound estimate rather than a precise rating, its placement among nearby entries should be read accordingly.

Lamborghini Temerario V8 — 789 hp from the engine
The V8 is reported at 789 hp, while the Temerario’s combined output with three electric motors is reported at 907 hp. The 789-hp engine figure is the one used for this ranking.

Ferrari F154 — 786 hp
SlashGear reports 786 hp for the F154 in the SF90 XX application. Its figure is an engine-specific output rather than a combined hybrid-system total.
Why fuel and hybrid output change the comparison
E85 ratings are fuel-specific
Several of the highest reported figures are tied to E85, including the SSC Tuatara, Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut, and Saleen S7 LM. The source gives lower gasoline figures for the Tuatara and Jesko, and says the Saleen also makes less on pump gasoline without stating the amount in the ranking summary. A maximum E85 rating should not be treated as an all-fuel rating.

Engine horsepower is not total hybrid output
The Lamborghini Temerario’s 789-hp V8 is paired with three electric motors for a reported 907 hp combined. The Czinger 21C entry likewise distinguishes its V8’s 950 hp from its hybrid system output. Comparing combined system power against an engine-only figure would mix different measures, so the ranked list uses the V8 contribution when the source provides one.
Crate engines: useful context, but not extra entries in this ranking
Crate-engine ratings help illustrate another distinction: a high-output engine product is not automatically one of the twelve road-car or specialist vehicle entries in SlashGear’s ranking.
Chevrolet Performance ZZ632/1000 Deluxe
Chevrolet Performance currently rates the ZZ632/1000 Deluxe at 1,004 hp at 6,600 rpm and 876 lb-ft at 5,600 rpm, from 632 cubic inches (10.4L). Chevrolet recommends premium pump fuel of 93 octane or higher and marks the product “Parts intended for competition use only.” Its October 20, 2021 announcement describes the engine as naturally aspirated and gives the same horsepower rating. GM performance director Russ O’Blenes called it “the biggest, baddest crate engine we’ve ever built”—manufacturer promotional language, not an independent comparison.
Mopar Hellephant 426
Mopar’s current product page lists the Hellephant 426 supercharged HEMI crate engine at 1,000 hp and 950 lb-ft, with a Mopar Performance contact and a plug-and-play kit pathway. These are specifications for the Hellephant 426, not the 1,025-hp Hellephant C170 figure in the ranking. Separately, Stellantis described the A30 at 1,000 hp and the A170 at over 1,100 hp on E85 as preliminary estimates in a November 1, 2022 announcement; those variant figures were explicitly estimates.

What the ranking does—and does not—establish
This is a comparison of reported peak horsepower, not a uniform laboratory test. The underlying ranking article supplies the twelve figures and ordering, while the manufacturer pages corroborate specifications for the ZZ632 and Hellephant 426 rather than verifying every engine in the list. It also spans different kinds of products: engines fitted to vehicles, a limited-run application, and specialist offerings. Availability, road legality, and installation requirements depend on the specific vehicle, market, and product; horsepower alone cannot settle those questions.
