Lucid’s final-production specification is 1,234 hp, making 1,300 hp a rounded headline figure rather than the car’s published rating. Its three-motor electric powertrain produces 1,430 lb-ft of torque and gives the Sapphire a 1.89-second 0–60 mph time, an 8.95-second quarter mile at 158 mph, and a 205-mph top speed.
What the Lucid Air Sapphire is
The Air Sapphire is Lucid’s three-motor electric super-sports sedan. Two motors drive the rear wheels and one drives the front axle, allowing the powertrain to deliver 1,234 hp and 1,430 lb-ft of torque. Those figures put it in a different performance class from ordinary luxury sedans while retaining a conventional four-door body and an EPA-estimated 427-mile range.

Lucid published the production specifications in 2023. The 1,234-hp rating is the number to use when precision matters; “1,300 hp” is a rounded description used in headlines.

The acceleration figures are Lucid’s published results, not independent instrumented testing. The combination of a sub-two-second launch, an 8.95-second quarter mile and 427 miles of EPA-estimated range is what distinguishes the Sapphire: it is not merely a short-range drag car.

How it compares with the Tesla Model S Plaid
The Tesla Model S Plaid is the closest American electric-sedan comparison in the published figures. Tesla’s current Model S product page lists 1,020 hp, a 1.99-second 0–60 mph time, a 9.23-second quarter mile, a 200-mph top speed and 368 miles of EPA-estimated range.

Can you still buy a new Model S Plaid?
Availability changes the meaning of “every American EV sedan buyers can get.” Tesla’s current product page says the Model S is no longer in production and that pre-owned, non-Signature Edition inventory may still be available. Therefore, the Plaid remains the essential benchmark for performance, but it is not presented by Tesla as a current-production car that customers can order new in the ordinary way.

That qualification is why the Sapphire can be described as outpowering every American EV sedan currently available to buyers while still requiring careful wording about the comparison. A used Model S Plaid may exist in the market, but used inventory is not the same as a new-car ordering program.

Price and what the figure means
Lucid listed the Air Sapphire at $249,000 fully equipped in the United States in 2023. This is a listed vehicle price tied to that model-year announcement, not a statement that every current transaction has the same price. Taxes, registration, delivery charges and any later pricing changes are separate considerations.
What the headline gets right—and wrong
- Right: The Lucid Air Sapphire is the sedan behind the 1,300-hp description.
- More precise: Lucid’s final-production rating is 1,234 hp.
- Performance: Its published 1.89-second 0–60 mph and 8.95-second quarter-mile figures exceed the Model S Plaid’s listed times.
- Range: The Sapphire’s 427-mile EPA estimate is higher than the Plaid’s listed 368 miles.
- Availability: Tesla says Model S is no longer in production, so comparisons should distinguish current production from used inventory.
The Bottom Line
The Lucid Air Sapphire is the answer to the 1,300-hp-sedan question, with an exact published output of 1,234 hp.
