Displacement comes from a longer stroke
GM says the LS6 grows from the preceding 6.2-liter LT2 by extending stroke from 92 mm to 100 mm while retaining a 103.25 mm bore. That eight-millimeter increase in stroke is the central mechanical change behind the larger swept volume. The resulting engine measures 6.7 liters, or 409 cubic inches.
Keeping the bore unchanged while lengthening the stroke is significant for how the engine is positioned. Displacement by itself cannot determine which engine makes more power. Camshaft timing, cylinder-head flow, intake and exhaust design, compression, calibration, rpm range, accessory load and emissions equipment all affect the result. Even two engines with the same displacement can be tuned for very different torque curves and operating environments.
Why “7.0 liters” is not an automatic advantage

GM’s announcement distinguishes the hybrid system’s combined rating from the engine-only specification. Start with the exact GM Performance Parts package and controller-kit documentation rather than relying on the LS7 name alone. Confirm the following before planning an installation:

- Whether a dry-sump tank, lines, cooler and mounting hardware are included or must be sourced separately.

- Define the engine identity. Specify whether the LS7 is a crate package, a particular vehicle engine or another catalog configuration.
