Announced in 2017, the special edition was based on Honda’s Miimo robotic mower and wore Championship White paint, a black-and-white spoiler, black bumpers and Type R graphics.
What was Honda’s Type R lawn mower?
Honda introduced the Type R-inspired Miimo in 2017 as one of two robotic mower prototypes created for the 25th anniversary of its Type R and Fireblade marques. The other prototype drew inspiration from Fireblade. The Type R version used the shape of the Miimo 520, with custom paint and specialist cast wrapping film used for its graphics. Honda’s announcement described the styling; it did not announce a production model or retail sale.
How the styling translated
- Championship White bodywork
- A black-and-white spoiler
- Black bumpers
- Type R graphics along the sides
It was a playful automotive tribute applied to a compact robotic mower, not a lawn tractor with a Civic engine or a road-going Type R converted for grass cutting.
Can you buy the Honda Miimo Type R?
Honda called the Type R-themed Miimo a prototype. Its announcement gives no price, production quantity, retail availability or ordering route, so it does not establish that the special edition was sold. It also does not establish where the prototype is now or whether it was later sold.

- Wire-Free Robotic Lawn Mower with LiDAR Navigation - GOAT A2000 LiDAR PRO is a wire-free robotic lawn mower that requires no perimeter wire or RTK antenna. The HoloScope 360° Dual-LiDAR system automatically maps your yard and delivers precise 2 cm positioning — even under trees, near fences, or in shaded areas where GPS mowers lose signal.
- Built-In Edge Trimming for Clean Borders - Unlike standard robot lawn mowers, this model features an integrated TruEdge trimmer for true edge-to-edge cutting. It trims along driveways, sidewalks, flower beds, and irregular lawn borders — reducing the need for manual string trimming after mowing. (Includes 2 rolls of trimming line, each covering approximately 3km of edging.)
- High-Power 32V Platform for Thick Grass - Designed for American lawns with Bermuda, Zoysia, Fescue, and St. Augustine grass. The 32V motor and dual-blade disc system provide stronger cutting torque and faster blade rotation, helping this robotic mower handle dense, fast-growing grass and uneven terrain.*Compared to previous GOAT models, based on ECOVACS lab testing.
- Fast Charging Robotic Mower for Medium to Large Yards - Equipped with a durable 3.0Ah battery and 113.4W fast charging, this robot lawn mower recharges in about 50 minutes. Ideal for homeowners looking for automated lawn care with minimal downtime and consistent scheduled mowing performance.
- Smart App-Controlled Lawn Mower with Custom Zones - Control your smart lawn mower through the ECOVACS app. Create multiple mowing zones, set no-go areas, adjust cutting height and speed, define travel paths between zones, and customize mowing schedules. Designed for complex yard layouts and personalized lawn care.
Miimo itself is a real Honda robotic mower family. Honda says Miimo works within a defined area and returns to its docking station to recharge. Honda’s Miimo technology overview says the mower was introduced in Europe in 2012. A separate 2017 U.S. launch announcement named the HRM 310 and HRM 520; those historical model references do not confirm current availability. Honda’s U.S. announcement quoted Honda Power Equipment vice president Michael Rudolph describing standard Miimo as a way to maintain a lawn without physically cutting the grass. That statement concerned the product family, not the Type R prototype.
Is the Type R Miimo the same as Honda’s Mean Mower?
No. They are separate projects with different base machines and aims. Honda announced Mean Mower V2 in 2018 as a lawn tractor-based engineering and speed-record project; its specifications do not describe the Type R Miimo. Honda’s Mean Mower V2 announcement describes a 999cc Fireblade SP engine and a speed target. Those details belong to Mean Mower, not the robotic mower prototype.

| Type R Miimo | Miimo 520 robotic mower form | Type R anniversary-styling prototype; no production or retail announcement in Honda’s 2017 release. |

What the Type R prototype announcement does—and doesn’t—tell us
Honda’s 2017 release establishes the anniversary context, the styling and the Miimo 520 form. It does not provide a measured speed, mowing rate or other performance statistic for the Type R prototype. Nor does it establish a production run or present-day availability. Mean Mower V2’s engine and speed-target information cannot fill those gaps because it describes a different machine.
